Lantern

The innovation relates to a lantern or the like according to the preamble of claim 1.

Lanterns usually consist of a cup-shaped base that holds a candle and onto which a tubular body or shade made of transparent material, especially glass, is placed, enclosing the candle and open at the top.

The aim of the innovation is to further develop such a lantern in such a way that it is versatile, has means to make the transparent body or shade attractive through the use of motifs, is designed to be hangable, various attachments can be accommodated and, in particular, interesting lighting effects can be achieved.

According to the innovation, this is achieved with the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. Further embodiments of the invention are the subject of the subclaims.

The innovative lantern made of transparent material consists of an inner vessel that holds the candle wax or the candle, with a symmetrical enlargement of the circumference at the top and bottom, whereby the vessel is closed at the bottom and open at the top, and an outer, tubular, also transparent, cylindrical cover with an inward-facing constriction at the bottom, on which the vessel sits with its peripheral edge. Between the vessel and the cover, due to the extensions of the vessel at the top and bottom, a light chamber is formed that extends over most of the height of the lantern, which serves to hold a decorative layer, e.g. a picture motif that is inserted into the light chamber in the form of a rolled sheet or a roll with painted or printed picture motifs, but also paper cuttings or the like, but also in the form of decorative material, such as glass beads, glass balls, colored stones.

The easily replaceable decorative layer can optionally consist of transparent colored paper or a colored foil. In this way, it is possible to combine your own motifs and images with the lantern and to choose between different decorations, so that there are no limits to individual artistic design.

In a further development of the innovation, a closing ring is placed on the transparent cover at the head end of the vessel so that the container is protected against the effects of the weather if the closing ring is designed as a closing lid or is used to hold a lid.

The inner container has a ring around the top, which, in conjunction with the sealing ring, acts as a seal against the motif strip or the motif roll, so that the image motif is fixed between the transparent cover and the container. This ring also serves as a support for the upper end ring, which protects the container against the effects of the weather.

The inner vessel, for example, can accommodate a windshield glass that forms a chimney-like outlet for the hot air from the vessel. Furthermore, a ceramic bowl for scented oils or scented aromas can be placed on top of the vessel to produce aromatic or other vapors that fill the room; such bowls can have foot-like ridges that are placed on top of the vessel. Individual vessels of the same size can also be placed on top of one another or stacked by inserting the narrowed sections on the foot of the cover into the opening of the vessel from above.

The innovation is explained below in conjunction with the drawing using examples. It shows:

The lantern according to the invention consists, as shown in Fig. 1, of a substantially hollow cylindrical vessel 1 with a head part 2, which has an enlarged diameter and is open at the top, and a base part 4 with an enlarged diameter and a cylindrical main part 3 in between. The vessel 1 holds the candle wax 5 or a candle with a wick. The vessel is surrounded by a transparent casing 6, which is tubular with an inner diameter that is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the head and foot ends 2, 4 of the vessel 1. End tapered to a ring base 7, on whose ring-shaped horizontal section the bottom end of the vessel rests. Between the vessel 1 and the cover 6 there is a picture motif roll 8, which is arranged between the head and foot extensions 2,4 of the vessel 1 and the cover 6, the picture motif roll 8 having a cylindrical shape corresponding to the cover 6. Between the cover 6 and the cylindrical section 3 of the vessel 1 there is a ring-shaped light chamber 9, which can be filled with granulate, glass beads, colored stones, broken glass and similar filling material, but also with other solid or liquid substances that are permeable to light or reflect the light of the candle flame and produce the corresponding desired lighting effects.

The vessel 1 is made of transparent material, e.g. plastic, plexiglass, glass or the like. Furthermore, the cover 6 is made of transparent plastic, clear film, plexiglass or the like, so that both cylinders representing the lantern container allow the light of the candle to pass through to the outside.

The picture motif roll 8 is a sheet-shaped insert roll which is made, for example, from paper, plastic film, coloured transparent paper or coloured film or has cutouts, for example in the form of silhouettes or the like, so that picture motifs in the candle container become visible from the outside due to the light emanating from the candle flame. The picture motif roll has the advantage that any pictures or motifs can be individually created, e.g. drawn, painted or cut out, on a simple, rolled-up sheet of paper, so that very personal lanterns are created. The motif roll can, for example, be a sheet of paper that only takes up part of the total circumference of the light chamber or extends over the entire circumference. Alternatively, a roll can also be provided which is rolled through 360°, so that it is possible to easily overlay or change motifs.

Instead of a picture motif, the light chamber can accommodate granules, small stones, glass balls, pearls 10 and the like, which produce decorative light effects when

the light rays of the candle flame penetrate the light chamber. Due to the various reflections of the regular or irregular granules and the like, attractive light effects are achieved, which result in additional and continuously changing light effects due to the flickering of the candle flame.

In order to be able to hang up the new lantern, small holes 11 are provided on diametrically opposite sides of the cover 6, as shown in Fig. 3, into which the ends of a wire loop, a bracket 11 or the like are inserted. A closing ring 13, which encloses the cover 6 at the upper opening end in the circumferential direction, protects the picture motif roll 8 from moisture from the outside and encloses the upper edge of the vessel and cover, so that the light chamber is closed.

Fig. 2 shows a lantern consisting of vessel 1 and cover 6, onto which a second lantern with the same dimensions, of which only the cover 6' is shown, is placed.

Figure 3 shows an attachment 14 as a windshield, which is placed on or in the vessel 1 at the upper peripheral edge.

Figure 4 schematically shows a ceramic bowl 15, the base part 16 of which is also placed on the vessel 1 and the contents 17 of which in the form of scented oils or scented particles are heated by the candle flame so that scented aromas are released.

Claims (14)

1. Lantern in the form of a transparent, cup-shaped vessel which holds candle wax with a wick or a candle, characterized in that the vessel ( 1 ) has an annularly expanded peripheral edge ( 2 , 4 ) at the upper, head-side end and at the lower, foot-side end, and that the vessel ( 1 ) is enclosed by a substantially cylindrical transparent casing ( 6 ) in such a way that between the outer wall of the vessel ( 1 ) and the inner wall of the casing ( 6 ) in the cylindrical region ( 3 ) between the upper and lower peripheral edges a free space ( 9 ) formed in the peripheral direction in the form of a tubular light chamber is created. 2. Lantern according to claim 1, characterized in that the vessel ( 1 ) consists of transparent plastic, plexiglass, glass or similar material. 3. Lantern according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the cover ( 6 ) consists of transparent plastic, clear film, Plexiglas or similar material. 4. Lantern according to one of claims 1-3, characterized in that a sheet-shaped insert roll ( 8 ) made of paper, plastic film or similar material is arranged on the inside of the cover ( 6 ). 5. Lantern according to claim 4, characterized in that the insert roll ( 8 ) extends by a part of 360°, by a full 360° or by a multiple of 360°. 6. Lantern according to claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the insert roll ( 8 ) is designed to be replaceable and has picture motifs in painted or cut-out form, embossings or similar motifs. 7. Lantern according to one of claims 1-5, characterized in that the cover ( 6 ) forms a narrowing, foot-like section ( 7 ) with a reduced diameter in the bottom section. 8. Lantern according to one of claims 1-7, characterized in that the vessel ( 1 ) and/or the casing ( 6 ) has an end ring ( 13 ) in the upper region. 9. Lantern according to one of claims 7 or 8, characterized in that the enlarged head part ( 2 ) of the vessel ( 1 ) has an inner diameter which is designed to correspond to the outer diameter of the base part of the sleeve, such that the lanterns ( 1 , 6 ) are stackable. 10. Lantern according to claim 9, characterized in that the foot part ( 7 ) of the cover ( 6 ) can be inserted into the head-side extension of the vessel ( 1 ). 11. Lantern according to one of claims 1-10, characterized by an upwardly tapering windshield glass body ( 14 ) which can be placed on the upper edge of the vessel. 12. Lantern according to one of claims 1-10, characterized in that a bowl ( 14 ), e.g. a ceramic bowl for scented oils or scented aromas, can be placed on the head-side opening of the vessel ( 1 ), and a foot part formed on the underside of the bowl is fixed to the constriction of the vessel ( 1 ) in a seated manner. 13. Lantern according to one of claims 1-12, characterized in that the light chamber ( 9 ) between the inner vessel ( 1 ) and the outer shell ( 6 ) is filled with granules, glass beads, broken glass ( 10 ) or the like. 14. Lantern according to one of claims 1-13, characterized in that on the outside of the casing ( 16 ) in the upper peripheral region two diametrically opposed bores ( 11 ) are formed for receiving a hanging wire loop ( 12 ), a bracket or the like.
