Abstract

A flap (5) forms an extension of one of the covers (3, 4) on the opposite side to the spine (2) and is joined to this first cover via a double fold (6, 7), the intermediate section (8) of the flap in between these two folds having a width substantially corresponding to the thickness of the book block (1). When not in use, the flap can be folded away between the first cover and the book block. When the book is to be shipped, posted etc., the flap is unfolded and the inside of the flap is secured to the outside of the second cover. The flap is provided with a self-adhesive layer (9) for securing it to the second cover.

Book with integrated shipping cover

The advertising industry, the tourism industry, book publishers, etc., like all other sectors of the economy, are constantly concerned with the question of how new needs can be created and sales markets opened up.

The purpose of this invention is to create new uses for books.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that a book is equipped with a shipping sleeve integrated with the book cover.

This integrated shipping cover is created by extending the front cover of the book, preferably on the edge opposite the spine, with a double-folded flap that can be folded in between the front cover and the book block and can optionally be folded out and folded onto the back of the back cover, with the section between the two folds covering the side of the book block opposite the spine between the front cover and the back cover. The flap is provided with a self-adhesive strip that is covered by a removable film when not in use so that the flap can be stuck to the back (outside) of the back cover. With the flap glued to the back cover in this way, the book can be sent like a letter or a package. It is then closed on all sides by the front and back covers, the spine and the double-folded intermediate section of the flap except for the upper and lower side surfaces of the book block.

In a further development of the invention, further similar flaps with double folds and self-adhesive strips can be attached to the upper and lower edges of the front book cover in its extension in order to be able to cover the upper and lower side surfaces of the book block and thus close the book on all sides. 5

It is understood that the flap extending the book cover at the edge opposite the spine can be arranged on the lower book cover instead of on the upper book cover and can be glued onto the upper book cover, as can any additional flaps that may be present at the upper and lower edges of the book cover in question.

It is also possible to apply the film or a corresponding coating to the inside of the relevant book cover instead of a removable film over the self-adhesive layer of the or each flap, so that the flap with the self-adhesive strip can be released by gently pulling and the flap can be folded over and glued onto the other book cover.

On one of the book covers, or possibly also on the flap, there may be an address field for entering the recipient's address, a field for sender information, and a field for postage.

Such a book is suitable, for example, as a gift book to send as a birthday or sick note, to send from vacation or as a greeting and information from special cities or towns or events such as conferences, or as an advertising medium, for example as a company brochure, tourist advertisement or the like.

The accompanying drawing shows a schematic side view of an embodiment of the invention, looking at the lower side surface of the book block.

The book shown as an example has a book block 1, a spine 2, an upper cover 3 and a lower cover 4. The upper cover 3 is extended on its side opposite the spine 2 by a flap 5 which

a double fold 6, 7 with an intermediate section 8 in between, is connected to the upper book cover. The flap 5 can be an integral extension of the book cover 3, but can also be connected to the front book cover 3, for example by gluing it to the inside of the latter.

The drawing shows the flap 5 folded out in solid lines. It also shows the flap 5 in dash-dotted lines, on the one hand folded onto the inside of the upper book cover 3 between this and the book block 1, and on the other hand also in dash-dotted lines in the position of use as a shipping cover folded over the rear book cover and glued onto it, with the intermediate section 8 covering the long side surface of the book block opposite the spine. A self-adhesive coating 9 is applied to the inside of the flap, preferably as a self-adhesive strip, and the self-adhesive layer 9 is covered by a removable film 10.

In order to be able to open the book again after shipping, a flap strip 11 delimited by double perforations is provided in the flap 5 between the fold 7 and the self-adhesive layer 9, which can be designed with a pre-punched tear-off tab (not shown) at one end. The flap 5 is opened by tearing off this pre-punched strip. The area glued to the book cover 4 via the self-adhesive layer 9 remains glued there, and the part of the flap 5 hanging on the upper book cover 3 is simply folded to the inside of the upper book cover 3 and can also be used as a bookmark when using the book later.

Claims (7)

1. Book with integrated shipping cover, wherein one ( 3 ) of the two book covers ( 3 , 4 ) is extended on its side opposite the book spine ( 2 ) by a flap ( 5 ) which is connected to the relevant book cover (3) via a double fold ( 6 , 7 ) with an intermediate section ( 8 ) approximately corresponding to the thickness of the book block ( 1 ), and wherein the flap can optionally be folded in between the relevant book cover ( 3 ) and the book block ( 1 ) when not in use and folded out for use as a shipping cover and can be glued with its inner surface to the outside of the other book cover (4 ) by means of a self-adhesive layer (9 ) arranged thereon. 2. Book according to claim 1, wherein the flap ( 5 ) is integrally connected to the respective book cover. 3. Book according to claim 1, wherein the flap ( 5 ) is connected to the respective book cover by gluing it to the inside thereof. 4. A book according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein further similar flaps extend the upper and lower edges of the respective book cover. 5. Book according to one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the self-adhesive layer ( 9 ) is covered with a removable film ( 10 ). 6. Book according to one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the inside of the respective book cover ( 3 ) is provided with a film or coating which covers the self-adhesive layer of the flap when it is folded between the respective book cover and the book block. 7. Book according to one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the flap ( 5 ) between the self-adhesive layer ( 9 ) and the double fold ( 6 , 7 ) is formed with a continuous tear-off strip ( 11 ) delimited by a double perforation, one end of which is preferably designed as a pre-punched tear-off tab.
