Für den Transport von pulverförmigen und flüssigen Füllgütern und von Kleinteilen werden Kartongebinde, Kartontrommeln und Kartondosen eingesetzt. Eine Materialkennzeichnung erfolgt bisher durch außen am Material angebrachte Etiketten. Diese Kennzeichnung erfüllt nicht die Anforderung an eine gesicherte Materialidentifikation und -Verfolgung. Dies gilt besonders für den Einsatz im Nahrungsmittelumfeld, in der Chemie und im Pharmaumfeld.
Hier wird eine eindeutige Zuordnung von Material und Transportbehälter gefordert.

Über organisatorische Abläufe muss die für die Produktion notwendige Sicherheit der Materialzuordnung sichergestellt werden.
