Abstract

A dial lighting kit uses colored surface mount device (2, 4) light emitting diodes wired (1) together or soldered (3) to circuit board (5) tracks (6) to illuminate and back light car instrument panel dials in a different color to the mass produced normal illumination.

Conversion kit for colored or differently colored SMD or LED backlighting of dials in motor vehicles.

Motor vehicles, provided they are registered for road use, are equipped with an instrument panel that allows the most important data (kilometers per hour, engine speed, water temperature and tank content) to be read at any time during the journey, even at night.

In earlier vehicles, the dials that display this data are made of sheet metal and have this data printed on them. The lighting at night is provided from the front using light bulbs.

Newer vehicles have plastic dials that allow the numbers and lines of the scale to shine through. The light bulbs for the illumination are located behind the dial. At night, these numbers shine through in the color of the light bulbs.

With both variants it was previously possible to replace light bulbs if they were defective.

In the very latest generation of vehicles, however, the dials are no longer backlit using light bulbs, but rather using SMDs.

These are small, luminous microchips that are soldered directly onto the circuit board of the speedometer unit and cannot be replaced.

While it used to be possible to exchange dials with white lettering for dials with red or blue lettering in order to obtain a different luminous color of the numbers and the scale at night, this is no longer possible today because the soldered SMDs have a fixed luminous color (e.g. red) which cannot be changed.

The hands are also illuminated from behind using SMDs in a color that cannot be changed. Of course, the invention also allows the color of the hands to be changed.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of creating a differently colored background lighting for dials and hands for these vehicles.

This problem is solved with the features listed in claim 1.

The invention means that all vehicle owners who have a vehicle with illuminated dials can now determine the color of the illumination themselves (both for the dials and for the hands), even if they have a vehicle that has the dials and hands illuminated in a fixed color using SMDs or LEDs.

Several SMDs or LEDs in a specific luminous color, connected to one another or individually, which are used to make the illumination or translucence color of the dials or hands in motor vehicles shine in a different color than the standard color.
