Description

The invention relates to a decorative frame element for attachment to the outer edges of pictures, which consist of the picture surface and the picture carrier surface.

Picture frames of the usual design consist of four frame legs, usually joined together using a miter cut. Such frames are designed to frame the picture, whereby the frame also provides the fastening mechanism and, in particular, is intended to support and enhance the taste of the picture. The disadvantage is that the frame must be selected in terms of shape and color to match the picture.

The result is often unsatisfactory, as only short-legged frame sample angles are available for selecting the frame. Many portraits, such as paintings or prints, are therefore displayed unframed. The frames are often more expensive than the portrait, as they have to be kept in large quantities or are made by a specialist after ordering. This is particularly true for inexpensive portraits, the content and design of which are subject to rapidly changing tastes. The consumer also has no say in the overall impression beyond the choice of frame. In order to change the overall impression of such a conventionally framed picture by changing the frame or to vary it to suit contemporary taste, a new frame is required. The disproportionate loss of material, which occurs particularly with wide frame strips on the one hand and small image formats on the other, can make the price of a conventional frame seem disproportionately high, so that many consumers forego the conventional frame.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of creating a frame-like decoration option in which at least one decorative frame element is attached to the outer edge of the picture, which is shorter than two individual edge lengths of the picture and gives the consumer the opportunity to help shape the overall impression of a picture.

This problem is solved with the features listed in claim 1.

The invention enables the consumer to attach one or more decorative frame elements in shape, structure, color, material and other distinguishing features to a frameless picture according to his taste without any special technical knowledge. This means that the consumer is involved as an artist. Due to the wide range of variations in shape, color, structure and material, relatively small product and inventory levels need to be maintained without the limits on design freedom or range that usually occur with conventional frames. Similar to a conventional frame, at least part of the decorative frame element lies on the picture surface.

The length of the decorative frame element can advantageously be a regular subset of the usual picture carrier lengths, e.g. 10 cm, but not shorter than 9 cm. Decorative frame elements with a length of 10 cm can optionally be combined to form all the usual frame lengths, so that closed, gap-free framing is also possible. In particular, the fact that there are no consultants or salespeople enables the consumer to choose their own varied frame creations, which can be changed free of charge if taste changes.

The attachment can be carried out in the usual way using nails, screws, Velcro, staples, glue, magnets or other means, whereby the rear wall can preferably be used as the attachment surface. This does not cause any damage to the visible front or side surfaces, so that the consumer can redecorate a picture as desired.

The decorative frame elements can also be mounted so that they can be moved, so that the consumer can spontaneously change the image impression. In particular, magnetic points or strips attached to the back or side of a picture carrier allow the decorative frame elements to be moved without any problems.

Fig. 1 shows a picture 1 in plan view with the laterally attached decorative frame elements 2 which have partial areas 3 resting on the picture surface.

Figures 2 to 12 do not represent exhaustive variations, with Figures 3, 5, 6, 8 and 12 each showing at least two decorative frame elements, at least a partial area of which rests on the image surface.

Claims (2)

1. Decorative frame element for attachment to the outer edges of a picture, which consist of a picture surface ( 1 ) and a picture carrier surface, characterized in that the individual decorative frame element ( 2 ) is longer than 9 cm and shorter than two individual edge lengths of a picture surface and rests on the picture surface ( 1 ) with at least one partial surface ( 3 ) and the picture carrier surface is at least 0.2 cm thick. 2. Decorative frame element according to protection claim 1, characterized in that the decorative frame element ( 2 ) is attached to the side or back surface of the image carrier surface in a displaceable or slidable manner by means of magnetic points and/or strips.
