Bei länger andauernder Anstrengung ist es daher erforderlich, außer Getränken eine geeignete Nahrung zu sich zu nehmen. Bei hohen Beanspruchungen im Kraft-Ausdauer-Bereich ist es wegen des hohen Energieverbrauches von besonderer Bedeutung, dem Verbrauch entsprechende Nahrungsmengen regelmäßig und zwar in relativ kurzen Zeitabständen aufzunehmen, um eine selbst kurzzeitig sehr nachteilige Tieflage des Glykogen-Spiegels im Organismus zu vermeiden. Ebenso ist Wasser zur Kompensation von Schweißverlusten vorzusehen, sowie regelmäßige Zufuhr von Elektrolyten, Vitaminen und Spurenelementen, und zwar in der Aktivität und dem Klima angepassten Mengen.Without regular replenishment of glycogen stores, a person's strength, speed, reaction time, attention and mental capacity quickly decline during endurance exercise. Die Oberflächen der derzeit angebotenen Nahrungsportionen sind nicht ausreichend beständig gegen Regen- oder Spritzwasser, weshalb die Essportionen bei Tätigkeit im Freien von Schmutzwasser oder Regen durchweicht werden können. Zu ihrem Schutz werden die Nahrungsportionen daher derzeit in Verpackungen angeboten, die bisher so gestaltet sind, dass sie während der Ausdauerleistung nicht leicht, schnell und ohne Blickkontakt geöffnet werden können, sondern aufgerissen werden müssen unter zu Hilfenahme beider Hände bzw. der Zähne. Nach dem Verzehr des Inhaltes werden diese Portionsverpackungen oft in die Umwelt weggeworfen. Hinsichtlich der Nachteile dieser Art der Einzel verpackung ist z. B. zu denken an Standardsituationen im Straßenverkehr, also beim Betrieb von Fahrzeugen oder im Radsport, wo bei Letzterem z.
