Im Hinblick auf die einschlägigen Hygienevorschriften sollten diese Elemente so gefertigt sein, daß ein Bakterienwachstum gehemmt wird, bzw. antimikrobielle Eigenschaften beobachtet werden können. Zu diesem Zweck können die Elemente aus hochreinen Werkstoffen angefertigt werden. Das hat allerdings besonders hohe Kosten zur Folge. Zusätzlich oder alternativ können diese Elemente zum Erhalt der benötigten antimikrobiellen Eigenschaften auch mit antimikrobiell wirksamen Mitteln versetzt werden. Dieser Grundwerkstoff kann zum Erhalt erfindungsgemäßer Elemente mit elementarem Silber vermischt und/oder beschichtet, insbesondere bedampft werden. Zum Erhalt einer besonders guten antimikrobiellen Wirkung weisen die im Rahmen der Erfindung eingesetzten Silberteilchen eine spezifische Oberfläche von 2 bis 8, insbesondere 3 bis 5 m2/g auf. Eine ohne Beeinträchtigung des Grundmaterials besonders einfache Vermischung oder Beschichtung kann sichergestellt werden, wenn die Silberteilchen eine mittlere Teilchengröße von 20 bis 200 nm, insbesondere 80 bis 140 nm aufweisen. Zur Vermeidung einer Verunreinigung der Lebensmittel durch erfindungsgemäße Elemente selbst hat es sich als zweckmäßig erwiesen, wenn das elementare Silber eine Reinheit von 99 % oder besser, insbesondere 99,9% oder besser aufweist.
