Front railing

The invention relates to a front railing for securing a front side of a walkable scaffold, in particular a facade scaffold, wherein the front railing has at least one base part.

Facade scaffolding is set up along the facade of a building in order to be able to carry out external work, such as painting. The scaffolding is usually set up level by level, from bottom to top. For example, a scaffolding level contains decking boards that serve as floor plates for walking on the scaffolding level, as well as vertical beams to which the decking boards are hung directly or via horizontal decking bars. In addition, side railings and end railings are provided for each scaffolding level to protect the fitter or worker from falling.

•Such a front railing usually has a base part that forms a horizontal connection between the two vertical beams of the scaffold front. The base part is also provided with fastening elements that enable the base part to be attached to the scaffold.

This procedure poses a risk of falling for the fitter and therefore sometimes requires additional safety measures. The same applies to dismantling the scaffolding, which is carried out in reverse order.

It is an object of the invention to reduce the risk of accidents during the installation or removal of a front railing in an economically advantageous manner.

This object is achieved for a front railing of the type mentioned at the outset in that the base part is connected to a handling part which is movable with respect to the base part between a use position and a handling position for handling the front railing during its assembly and/or disassembly.

According to the invention, a movable handling part is provided which is part of the front railing and which enables the front railing to be attached to or removed from the front of the scaffold from a safe distance. The front railing can therefore be connected to or detached from the scaffold by grasping it at the handling part in the handling position and guiding it by means of the handling part.

In contrast, the handling part can be moved into the position of use for the use of the front railing mounted on the scaffolding as soon as the base part is attached to the scaffold. In the position of use, the handling part therefore hinders the intended

appropriate use of the scaffolding, or it even takes on additional safety functions.

In this way, the invention enables a so-called advance assembly of the front railing, namely an assembly from a lower scaffold level, without the need for separate aids or tools.

This assembly or disassembly of the front railing from a safe distance works particularly well if the handling part in the handling position forms an extension of the base part, in any direction, for example parallel, perpendicular or diagonal to the plane of extension of the base part. In particular, the handling part can form an extension of the base part that is at least essentially directed downwards in order to facilitate the assembly or disassembly described from a lower scaffolding level.

If directional information such as "down" or "horizontal" is used in connection with the invention, these refer to the position of the front railing mounted on the scaffold.

The invention is preferably used for facade scaffolding. However, it can be used for all types of walkable scaffolding, for example for work platforms, scaffolding bridges or scaffolding stands.

For the movement of the handling part relative to the base part, a pivoting movement is preferably provided, in particular by a pivoting angle between 90° and 180°. Alternatively, a linear movement of the handling part relative to the base part is also possible, for example due to a rail or telescopic connection.

It is also possible to combine a pivoting movement with a linear movement in order to enable the handling part to be fixed at least temporarily in the handling position or the use position. The additional linear movement can be directed in a substantially vertical direction, as will be explained below, or in addition to the pivoting movement of the handling part, a locking movement running transversely to the pivoting plane and/or horizontally can be provided.

A temporary fixing of the handling part is also possible in that "in addition to a linear movement of the handling part, a substantially linear locking movement is provided relative to the base part, which is directed transversely to the linear movement and in particular horizontally. A fixing device for such a fixing of the handling part in the handling position has the advantage that the handling part assumes a fixed relative position to the base part in the handling position in order to enable a safe and trouble-free assembly or disassembly of the front side railing.

A fixing device which alternatively or additionally allows the handling part to be fixed in the position of use ensures that, when the front railing is installed, the handling part cannot constitute a source of danger due to unwanted release from the position of use or that the handling part can even take on additional safety functions on the front of the railing.

It is also preferred if at least one holding device is provided on the base part or the handling part in order to be able to fasten the front railing to the scaffold. With regard to the securing function, the most important thing here is the fastening towards the outside of the scaffold front. Preferably, a securing device is also provided to prevent lateral movement along the scaffold front and to prevent vertical movement of the front railing.

Within the scope of the invention, it is possible that the base part of the front railing mounted on the scaffold is provided as a securing closure of the scaffold front. This corresponds to the usual function of the base part. Alternatively or additionally, however, it is possible that the

The handling part of the mounted front railing, in its position of use, takes on the required safety function. In other words, it is possible that the horizontal railing sections of the front railing that are usually provided for the safety function are provided either only on the base part, or only on the handling part, or partly on the base part and partly on the handling part, as will be explained below.

Furthermore, it is preferred if the handling part in its position of use is arranged at least at the level of the underside of the base part mounted on the scaffold. In this case, it is generally guaranteed that the handling part is located above the horizontal level of the covering whose front side is to be secured by the front side railing. In other words, after the base part has been assembled and after the handling part has been moved into the position of use, the covering of the associated scaffold level can be inserted into the scaffold from the next lower level without the handling part blocking the space required for the covering.

The front railing shown in Figures 1 to 6 has a base part 11 and a handling part 13. The base part 11 has a horizontal railing section 15 which is connected to a horizontal base section 19 designed as a toe board via two vertical connecting sections 17. The base part 11 thus has essentially the shape of a rectangular frame.

The handling part 13 has a horizontal handle section 21 and two extension sections 23 which adjoin it and which run vertically in the position of use shown, so that the handling part 13 essentially forms a U-shaped bracket.

The base part 11 and the handling part 13 are permanently connected to one another via two joints, with the U-shaped handling part 13 being surrounded from the outside by the base part 11 at both of its free ends. Each joint has a laterally inward-facing pivot pin 25 on the side of the base part 11 and an elongated hole 27 on the side of the handling part 13, which surrounds the respective pivot pin 25. The two pivot pins 25 define a common pivot axis for the handling part 13. As can be seen in particular from the detailed view according to Fig. 6, each pivot pin 25 is provided with a widened pin head 29.

In order to be able to secure the handling part 13 in the use position shown and in a handling position against an undesired pivoting movement, a fixing device is provided. This has a pair of fixing pins 31 arranged along a common longitudinal axis on the handling part 13 and a corresponding pair of guides 33 on the base part 11. The guides 33 run vertically along the base section 19 perpendicular to its plane of extension. They each have a vertical upper receiving slot 35 and a lower receiving slot 37 that is slightly inclined with respect to the vertical.

The pivot pins 25 mentioned are arranged on the guides 33. In addition, a support shoulder 39 is formed on each of the guides 33, namely on their front side facing away from the base section 19 at half height. Furthermore, the guides 33 are extended in the upper region of their rear side facing the base section 19 to form a limit stop 40 (see Fig. 3 as well as Fig. 7b and Fig. 10).

The fixing pins 31 projecting laterally outwards are each arranged in the region of the free end of an extension section 23 of the handling part 13, namely in extension of the respective elongated hole 27. This is particularly evident from Fig. 4, which shows a central cross-sectional view along the plane FV-IV marked in Fig. 2.

The fixing pins 31 are also each provided with a pin head 41 and, starting from the handling part 13, they each protrude into the plane of extension of the associated guide 33 in such a way that they can be inserted optionally into the lower receiving slot 37, onto the support shoulder 39 or - as shown in Figs. 1 to 6 - into the upper receiving slot 35. These engagements correspond, as will be explained below, to the handling position, an intermediate storage position or the use position of the handling part 13.

On the front railing, specifically on the base part 11, several holding devices are provided which enable the front railing to be attached to a scaffold.

These holding devices are, on the one hand, two threading clamps 43 which are arranged in pairs on the outside of the upper region of the base part 11.

On the other hand, two stop tongues 45 with a substantially circular arc-shaped profile are provided on the base section 19 of the base part 11, each of which projects laterally beyond the base section 19.

Furthermore, the base section 19 has an engagement strip 47 with a projection 49 on its underside as an additional holding device. In addition - with regard to the illustration according to Fig. 1 - two lateral support wings 50 are provided on the rear side of the base section 19.

The following explains how to attach and fix the front railing according to Fig. 1 to 6 to a scaffold using Fig. 7 to 12.

First, the handling part 13 is brought into the handling position in which it forms an extension of the base part 11 directed obliquely downwards. This handling position can be seen from the detailed view according to Fig. 7b, which corresponds to the central cross-sectional view according to Fig. 4 in terms of the perspective shown - but not in terms of the position of the handling part 13. In order to temporarily fix the handling part 13 in the handling position, the fixing pins 31 of the handling part 13 are located within the lower receiving slots 37 of the base part 11, and the pivot pins 25 of the base part 11 rest against the end of the respective elongated hole 27 that faces the handle section 21 of the handling part 13.

If, in this handling position, the front railing is grasped at the handling part 13 and held with the base part 11 pointing obliquely upwards, the fixing pins 31 remain securely caught in the lower receiving slots 37 due to the weight of the base part 11, so that the base part 11 maintains its stable position relative to the handling part 13.

As can be seen from Fig. 7a, the front railing is inserted from this handling position with the base part 11 directed obliquely upwards via the two threading clamps 43 into two vertical beams 51 forming the front side of a scaffold.

For this fastening of the front side railing, it is held on the handle section 21 and/or the extension sections 23 of the handling part 13. The

The extension of the base part 11 makes it possible to carry out the fastening step from a scaffold level 53 which is located below the scaffold level 55 whose front side is ultimately to be secured by the front side railing that has just been installed. The lower scaffold level 53 has already been secured by an earlier fastening of a front side railing (not shown), so that there is no risk of falling for the fitter of the front side railing shown in Fig. 7a.

Starting from the position shown in Fig. 7a of the front side railing already suspended from the vertical beams 51, this is next pivoted along the pivoting direction 57 until the base part 11 assumes a vertical position between the two vertical beams 51 and the two stop tongues 45 rest against the vertical beams 51 and partially encompass them.

Thereafter, the base part 11 - still by means of the handling part 13 - is guided vertically downwards along the lowering direction 59 until the engagement strip 47 on the underside of the base section 19 engages in a covering bar 61 connecting the two vertical beams 51, and until the two support wings 50 of the base part 11 rest on the covering bar 61.

The state thus achieved is shown in Fig. 8a and 8b. At this point, the base part 11 is already secured against unintentional detachment from the scaffolding: A movement of the base part 11 in the direction of its front or rear is prevented on the one hand by the threading clamps 43 enclosing the vertical beams 51, and on the other hand by the engagement of the engagement strip 47 in the decking bar 61.

(see Fig. 8b). An outward movement of the underside of the base part 11 is additionally prevented by the stop tongues 45.

A lateral movement of the base part 11 within the front plane is also prevented by the threading clamps 43, the fit of the base section
19 between the vertical beams 51 of the scaffolding and by lateral engagement of the engagement strip 47 within the decking bar 61. Finally, in the vertical direction, the base part 11 rests on the decking bar via the support wings 50 due to its own weight.

Due to the fastening steps described so far, the handling part 13 is still in the handling position and, due to the engagement of the fixing pins 31 in the lower receiving slots 37, it is still capable of a pivoting movement relative to the

This fixation can now be released by moving the handling part diagonally downwards in the radial direction 63 with respect to the axis formed by the pivot pins 25. The result of this release movement can be seen in Fig. 9. The fixing pins 31 are now located outside the lower receiving slots 37, and the pivot pins 25 now rest against the opposite end of the elongated holes 27.

The handling part 13 is then - still from the lower scaffold level 53 - attached to areas of the extension sections 23.

After this gripping, the handling part 13 is thrown or pivoted upwards along a circular path 65 until it strikes the connecting sections 17 of the base part 11 with the handle section 21 (see Fig. 11a) and the fixing pins 31 strike the limit stops 40 (see Fig. 10). The handling part 13 thus assumes a vertical position parallel to the base part 11.

Such operation of the handling part 13 from the lower scaffold level 53 is of course easier the lower the pivot joints formed by the pivot pins 25 and the elongated holes 27 are arranged.

After the handling part 13 has been thrown or swiveled upwards in the manner described, the fixing pins 31 are located exactly above the upper receiving slots 35 of the guides 33, as can be seen in Fig. 10. The handling part 13 is now lowered in the vertical direction 67 so that the fixing pins 31 come into engagement with the upper receiving slots 35, as can be seen in Fig. 11b. In practice, this lowering of the handling part 13 takes place - as a result of the previous throwing or swiveling movement and the subsequent striking of the handling part 13 on the base part 11 - due to gravity without any further active action by the fitter.

The handling part 13 is now in its position of use, in which it is secured against undesirable pivoting in the direction of the arrow due to the interaction of the fixing pins 31 with the upper receiving slots 35.

towards the inside of the scaffold. This state is shown in Fig. 11a. The base part 11 and the handling part 13, which has been moved into its position of use, thus form a complete and safe closure of the front side of the scaffold, even before the scaffold level in question is accessible to a fitter or worker (so-called advance assembly of the front side railing).

Such access to the - already secured - front side of the scaffold is only made possible by inserting decking panels 69 - also from the lower scaffolding level 53 - into the decking bar 61 supporting the front side railing, as can be seen from Figs. 12a and 12b.

Such covering panels 69 can be secured in a known manner, for example by means of securing tongues 71, against unintentional vertical lifting from the covering bar 61 in question. In this case, it is particularly advantageous if the covering panel 69 additionally has a securing projection 73 which locks the projection 49 of the base part 11 introduced into the covering bar 61 in question upwards. In this way, the front railing is secured against unwanted vertical detachment from the covering bar 61 in an upwards manner - in addition to the fastening caused by its own weight.

With regard to the front railing explained with reference to Figs. 1 to 12, it should also be noted that the handle section 21 of the handling part 13 also serves as a railing section in the use position of the handling part 13 (see Fig. 11a). Thus, in this front railing, both the mounted base part and the

sensitive handling part provides a secure closure of the scaffold front, each at a different height.

The handling part 13 is secured against further pivoting beyond the front of the scaffold by the fixing pins 31 being caught within the upper receiving slots 35. This outward securing is ensured even if the handling part 13 is moved vertically upwards from the position of use, since in this case the outward movement of the fixing pins 31 is limited by the limit stops 40. A particularly reliable securing is also achieved by the fact that the outer width of the handling part 13 is greater

is greater than the clear width of the base part 11 and the connecting sections 17 of the base part 11 thus lock the handling part 13 against further pivoting movement.

Furthermore, the advantages of the fixing device formed by the fixing pins 31 and the receiving slots 35, 37 should be emphasized. The explained design of the guides 33 and their interaction with the fixing pins 31 prove to be insensitive to even coarse dirt.

Furthermore, it should be noted with regard to the front railing explained that its use does not require the presence of the rosettes shown in Fig. 7a, 8a, 8b, 11a, 12a and 12b on the vertical beams 51. Rather, the front railing according to the invention can also be easily attached to a scaffold without rosettes, in particular to a so-called frame scaffold.

The front railing explained also enables particularly safe dismantling of the scaffolding, namely by carrying out the steps explained above in connection with the assembly of the front railing in reverse order. In particular, it is possible to dismantle the front railing from the next lower scaffolding level 53, which in turn is still secured by a front railing.

Finally, it should be noted that for attaching the front railing according to Fig. 1 to 12, the support shoulder 39 on the guides 33 enables the following alternative procedure: The swiveling up of the handling part 13 explained in connection with Fig. 8a to 10 can take place in two stages. First, the handling part 13 is brought into a horizontal position, from which it is moved horizontally in the direction of the base part 11 so that the fixing pins 31 come to rest on the support shoulders 39. The handling part 13 is thus temporarily fixed in an intermediate storage position.

Since the handling part 13 is already located above the horizontal position of the covering panel whose front side is to be secured by the front side railing in this intermediate storage position, the covering panel 69 in question can already be mounted from the lower scaffolding level 53 at this point in time. This completes the new scaffolding level 55 and makes it accessible, so that the handling part 13 can be grasped from this upper scaffolding level 55, brought out of the intermediate storage position and swiveled into the vertical position of use.

This alternative procedure has the advantage that the handling part 13 does not have to be completely swung up into the vertical position of use from the lower scaffold level 53. There is also no danger for the fitter during the final swinging up of the handling part 13, as the front side of the upper scaffold level 55 is already secured by the railing section 15 of the base part 11.

Fig. 13a and 13b finally show an alternative embodiment of the front side railing according to the invention. Identical or similar parts as in the front side railing described above are identified here with the same reference numerals.

In the front railing according to Fig. 13a and 13b, a base part 11 consists of a base section 19 which is provided with a pair of lateral threading clamps 43 and with two guide rails 33, each with an upper receiving slot 35, a lower receiving slot 37, a support shoulder 39 and a pivot pin 25.

A handling part 13 is hinged to the links 33 of the base part 11. This has a fixing pin 31 and an elongated hole 27 on each of the two extension sections 23. In addition, the handling part 13 has a horizontal handle section 21 connecting the two extension sections 23, two further extension sections 75 adjoining thereto and a horizontal railing section 77 connecting the further extension sections 75. Two stop tongues 45 are provided on the two outer sides of the handling part 13, approximately at the level of the railing section 77.

The front railing according to Fig. 13a and 13b is mounted on a scaffold in the same way as in connection with Fig. 7 to

12 explains: First, the handling part 13 is brought into a handling position relative to the base part 11, in which the fixing pins 31 engage in the lower receiving slots 37. The handling part 13 is gripped, for example, at the further extension sections 75 and suspended from a lower scaffold level 53 with the base part 11 into the vertical beams 51 and the decking bar 61 of the scaffold front side, as shown in Fig. 13a.

Then, by a short radial movement of the handling part

13 downwards, the fixation of the handling position is released, and the handling part 13 is pivoted upwards until the stop tongues 45 rest against the vertical beams 51 of the scaffold. The handling part 13 is then lowered so that the fixing pins 31 now engage in the upper receiving slots 35 of the guides 33 of the base part 11.

As can be seen from Fig. 13b, the handling part 13 is now in the position for use and is secured against unintentional pivoting beyond the front plane of the scaffold by the stop tongues 45. The engagement of the fixing pins 31 in the upper receiving slots 35 prevents the handling part 13 from unintentionally pivoting back towards the inside of the scaffold. To prevent such pivoting back, in addition to or as an alternative to the stop tongues 45, fixing devices can be provided which completely encompass the vertical beams 51 of the scaffold, for example fastening clamps of the known type.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 13a and 13b, both the lower handle or railing section 21 and the upper railing section 77 are formed on the side of the handling part 13, while only the horizontal base section 19 is provided on the side of the base part 11 to secure the front of the scaffold. This design results in a certain saving of material compared to the embodiment according to Fig. 1 to 12, but makes handling more difficult due to the higher weight of the handling part 13.

Claims (27)

Front side railing for the secure closure of a front side of a walkable scaffold, in particular a facade scaffold, with a base part ( 11 ), characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) is connected to a handling part ( 13 ) which is movable with respect to the base part between a use position and a handling position for handling the front side railing during its assembly or disassembly. 2. Front side railing according to claim 1, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) in the handling position forms an extension of the base part ( 11 ), in particular directed downwards. 3. Front side railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) fastened to the scaffolding is provided as a securing closure of the front side of the scaffolding. 4. Front side railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) fastened to the scaffold is provided as a securing closure of the front side of the scaffold in the position of use. 5. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that when the front railing is attached to the scaffold, the handling part ( 13 ) is arranged in the position of use above the upper side of the covering ( 69 ) of the associated scaffold level ( 55 ). 6. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) fastened to the scaffold is located at least substantially within the front plane of the scaffold in the position of use. 7. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) is permanently connected to the handling part ( 13 ). 8. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) is pivotable between the handling position and the use position. 9. Front railing according to claim 8, characterized in that a pivoting angle between approximately 90° and approximately 180° is provided. 10. Front railing according to one of claims 8 and 9, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) is additionally movable radially with respect to the pivot axis. 11. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) and the handling part ( 13 ) are connected to one another via at least one, preferably two joints ( 25 , 27 ). 12. Front railing according to claim 11, characterized in that the joint ( 25 , 27 ) is arranged on the underside of the base part ( 11 ). 13. Front railing according to one of claims 11 and 12, characterized in that the joint has a pivot pin ( 25 ) on the side of the base part ( 11 ) and an elongated hole ( 27 ) surrounding the pivot pin on the side of the handling part ( 13 ), or vice versa. 14. Front side railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that at least one fixing device ( 31 , 33 , 35 , 37 ) is provided for fixing the handling part ( 13 ) in the handling position and/or in the use position. 15. Front side railing according to claim 14, characterized in that the fixing device has at least one fixing pin ( 31 ) on the side of the handling part ( 13 ) and at least one corresponding receiving slot ( 35 , 37 ) on the side of the base part ( 11 ), or vice versa. 16. Front side railing according to one of claims 14 and 15, characterized in that two fixing pins ( 31 ) and two guides ( 33 ) each with two receiving slots ( 35 , 37 ) are provided for the handling position or the use position of the handling part ( 13 ). 17. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) has at least - a particularly horizontal handle section ( 21 ), and/or - an extension section ( 23 ), and/or - has a particularly horizontal railing section ( 77 ), wherein the handle section ( 21 ) is provided in the use position of the handling part ( 13 ) in particular as a railing section or as an additional railing section. 18. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handling part ( 13 ) forms a substantially U-shaped bracket. 19. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) has at least - a particularly horizontal railing section ( 15 ) and/or, - a base section ( 19 ) which is in particular horizontal and/or designed as a toe board, and/or - has a particularly vertical connecting section ( 17 ). 20. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) and/or the handling part ( 13 ) has at least one holding device ( 43 , 45 , 47 , 49 , 50 ) for fastening the front railing to the scaffolding. 22. Front side railing according to claim 21, characterized in that a plurality of holding devices ( 43 , 45 , 47 , 49 , 50 ) are provided, which are preferably arranged in pairs laterally on the base part ( 11 ) and/or the handling part ( 13 ). 23. Front railing according to one of claims 21 and 22, characterized in that a holding device - a lateral threading clamp ( 43 ) for gripping a vertical beam ( 51 ) of the scaffold, and/or - a lateral stop tongue ( 45 ) for partially gripping a vertical beam ( 51 ) of the scaffold, and/or - an engagement element ( 47 ) for engaging in a covering bar ( 61 ), and/or - on the underside of the base part ( 11 ) has a fixing element ( 49 ) which can be locked by subsequently inserting a covering ( 69 ) into the frame, in particular against an upward movement of the base part ( 11 ). 24. Front side railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the base part ( 11 ) can be inserted or suspended vertically downwards into the scaffolding, in particular into a decking bar ( 61 ) and/or on one or more vertical beams ( 51 ) of the scaffolding. 25. Front railing according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the outer width of the handling part ( 13 ) is greater than the clear width of the base part ( 11 ). 26. that the handling part ( 13 ) can also be moved into an intermediate storage position and fixed in this position,
