Technical area

The present invention relates to a commercially available shoe with the special feature that the sole (outsole) is "open", i.e. the sole has a number of openings that can be larger or smaller, but which are large enough or sufficient in number to ventilate the feet, especially in summer, in heated rooms or during indoor sports.

State of the art

Shoes generally serve to protect the soles of the feet. Over the course of development, this protection has been expanded more and more, so that today there are shoes for heat protection, for protection against sports injuries, etc. However, all shoes have the feature of a closed sole. Only recently have shoes been known that take into account the fact that the shoes should be designed to be more breathable. For example, applications have now been made for membrane soles that allow air to escape downwards through a special membrane, but at the same time prevent water from entering from the outside.

None of the known applications include soles that accept the ingress of water from below (outside). This problem does not even exist with indoor shoes. Shoes for special indoor use (indoor sports shoes, slippers) can certainly be fitted with soles that have more or less large openings on the bottom of the shoe.

Work shoes are an exception. With work shoes, it is particularly desirable or even essential that the soles protect against liquids penetrating them. In some cases, the soles are even supposed to be resistant to acids.

In addition to indoor sports shoes and slippers, summer shoes and sandals with such open soles are also suitable. Especially on hot summer days when you sweat a lot and there is very little chance of rain, you could wear shoes with open soles. This increases comfort and well-being.

In order to protect yourself against sudden rain and the associated risk of having to walk on wet ground, it is worth making the sole thick enough to walk on wet streets "with dry feet". In addition, standard, closed leather soles of summer shoes are so absorbent that after just a short time of walking on wet ground, the sole is so saturated that your feet get wet.

The soles can be used both indoors and outdoors - under "normal" weather conditions. But open soles offer a decisive comfort advantage, especially for indoor sports, where feet sweat a lot. The same applies to outdoor shoes on hot summer days.

Another advantage is the increase in performance in sports, which is achieved through the lighter soles and the cooled feet. In addition, the ventilation of the soles of the feet reduces the amount of sweat produced. This reduces the smell and the spread of athlete's foot. This in turn leads to an increased sense of well-being - immediately by reducing the smell and in the long term by eradicating any existing athlete's foot or by preventing the athlete's foot disease. One can therefore also speak of a medical benefit.
