Das Hauptstück des Stapelsystems ist das Grundgestell. Es besteht aus drei Seitenwänden und einem Boden. Die Seitenteile und der Boden des Grundgestells haben Öffnungen zur Seite bzw. nach unten. Diese Öffnungen dienen der Materialersparnis, der besseren Belüftung und damit der schnelleren Temperaturanpassung des eingelagerten Materials. Der Boden ist vorne an der offenen Seite halbmondförmig ausgeschnitten, damit die eingestellte Box oder das Gestell leichter von vorne entnommen werden kann. Das Grundgestell hat am oberen Rand der Seitenwände vorstehende Haken ( Fig 1a), am unteren Rand der Seitenwände, wo diese an den Boden stoßen, entsprechend große Aussparungen. In vertikaler Richtung halten die eingeschnappten Haken die beiden Teile aneinander (gegen Zug nach oben oder unten). In horizontaler Richtung verhindern die in die Aussparung des oberen Teiles eingeschnappten Haken des unteren Teiles ein seitliches Verschieben der Grundgestelle gegeneinander (Fig 2 b).
