Comb

The invention concerns a comb which is primarily used by professional hairdressers (hereinafter referred to as "hairdressers").

Its key feature is a comb handle that is bent at a right angle to the comb teeth. Due to the anatomy of the human head, this bend makes the comb particularly suitable for cutting sideburns: it can be held and guided safely and steadily because the hairdresser's hand holding the comb does not touch the ear when trimming the sideburns due to the bend in the handle. In contrast, with a conventional, non-bent comb, the handle and the hand holding it are a nuisance because it inevitably hits the ear when trimming the hair, which is why the entire comb and teeth must be held at an angle. This anatomically unavoidable angle of the conventional comb impairs even comb guidance and thus the desired evenness of the haircut. In order to achieve an even cutting result, the hairdresser must press the handle of the conventional comb and the hand holding it against the ear of the head being trimmed. This is uncomfortable for the person concerned. Furthermore, this pressing of the comb against the anatomy of the head causes the hairdresser to overextend his wrist.

The comb presented here has a recess on the concave side of the bend (Fig. 1+2) or in the extended handle (Fig. 3+4). The hairdresser's thumb rests in this recess, which allows the comb to be held calmly and loosely and prevents the hairdresser's hand from cramping.

In addition to a simple version with a short, curved comb handle (Fig. 1+2), a version with an extended comb handle (Fig. 3+4) is conceivable, which, like the short version, is also bent at a right angle to the teeth, but is then additionally bent in the opposite direction and then ends with a handle section parallel to the comb bar. In this extended version, the recess is in the handle extension.

Another important feature of the comb is that there are teeth on both sides of the comb bar. This means that the comb can be used by both right-handed and left-handed people. It also allows the hair to be gripped from bottom to top for cutting and combed from top to bottom without the hairdresser having to turn the comb. This simplifies and shortens the cutting and combing process.

The distance between the comb teeth can be varied, with the teeth being placed close together (Fig. 1+3) or with the teeth being placed further apart (Fig. 2+4). The version with the teeth placed close together is particularly suitable for the care of thick sideburns as well as thick beard hair and eyebrows.

The comb bar slopes down flatly in the gaps between the teeth towards the comb teeth. In addition, the comb teeth themselves taper outwards. These flattenings and tapers make it easier for the hair to slide through evenly and with as little resistance as possible, thus contributing to an even cutting result.

Depending on habits, hand anatomy and the current practical requirements of the hair care measures to be performed, the hairdresser will prefer one of the four versions presented (Fig. 1-4).

The comb presented offers the following advantages over a conventional comb:

■ The curved handle of the comb means that the ear is not touched when trimming sideburns and the comb does not have to be pressed against the head for even guidance. This makes the haircut more comfortable for the person whose sideburns are being trimmed.

■ The sideburns can be combed across their full width at an even distance from the head and can be grasped for cutting. This contributes to an improved cutting result, as guiding the comb across the full width of the hair to be cut and at an even distance from the head is an essential prerequisite for a successful style cut.

■ Because the hairdresser does not have to press the comb against the ear and hold it at an angle, his wrists are spared.

■ Thanks to a hollow in the concave of the handle bend or in the extended handle, the comb fits comfortably in the hairdresser's hand. It does not cramp when working and the hairdresser's joints are protected.

■ Depending on his habits and hand anatomy, the hairdresser can choose between a version with a short handle and a version with a long handle. This prevents overstretching or cramping of the wrist.

■ The comb teeth on both sides of the bar allow the hairdresser to comb from top to bottom and to grasp the hair from bottom to top for cutting in a single grip position. The comb does not have to be turned or twisted for cutting or combing. This simplifies and shortens the cutting process.

■ In addition, the comb teeth on both sides of the bridge make the comb equally usable by right- and left-handed people.

■ The version with the closely arranged comb teeth (Fig. 1+3) is suitable not only for sideburns but also for cutting and combing thick, short hair, such as eyebrows and beard hair.

The comb bar recesses between the comb teeth as well as the outward tapers of the comb teeth make it easier to comb and allow the hair to glide through evenly.

Claims (3)

1. Comb for professional hairdressers, mainly used for trimming sideburns.
It is characterized by the fact that the comb handle (6 + 7) is curved ( 8 ), which means that when cutting and combing the sideburns the ear is not touched and the comb has to be held at an angle.
A variant with a short comb handle (6, Fig. 1 + 2) or a version with an extended comb handle, which is bent in the opposite direction as the handle progresses and then ends with a handle section parallel to the comb bridge (7, Fig. 3 + 4) are conceivable. 2. Comb according to claim 1, characterized in that the comb teeth are arranged on both sides of the comb bridge ( 1 ) (3 + 4), whereby the distance between the teeth can be narrow (3, Fig. 1 + 3) or wide (4, Fig. 2 + 4). The arrangement of the teeth on both sides enables combing and cutting the hair from top to bottom and vice versa, without having to turn or twist the comb. Furthermore, the comb is equally suitable for use by right- and left-handed people due to the arrangement of the teeth on both sides. Between the comb teeth, the comb bridge flattens outwards. In addition, the comb teeth taper outwards. These flattenings ( 2 ) and tapers ( 5 ) make it easier to comb the hair. 3. Comb according to claim 1, characterized in that a thumb recess ( 9/10 ) is incorporated into the handle bend ( 8 ) or handle extension ( 7 ) for quiet and loose handling and comb guidance by the hairdresser.
