Decadal Pyramid Clock

The innovation concerns a quartz or DCF-77 radio clock which differs from the usual time display forms due to its LED display. With this clock, the time cannot be read in the traditional sense, but by adding a "ones" value (3 or 5) to a "tens" value (2 or 6).

The purpose of the innovation is not only to provide the exact time through a striking, unusual display system, but also to attract the viewer's attention (eye-catcher), as individually designed advertising texts are located on the sides of the clock.

As an additional feature, a directly readable display can be located in the rear wall.

An example of the pyramid clock will be explained in more detail below using the schematic drawing.

The pyramid-shaped housing (1) consists essentially of glass, which is connected by gluing to the ground glass edges. The glued edges of the housing can be covered by rectangular decorative strips.

The "dial" is a matrix built into the front, behind which the LEDs for the display are located in small windows. In the middle is the hour decade (4) with 12 LEDs. These enable a display from 0 to 12 o'clock or 13 to 24 o'clock. The hour value can be read directly here without any calculation.

To simplify reading, the inscriptions on the front are:

"Seconds, hours and minutes". These designations are located directly below the corresponding display decades and make reading much easier.

To read the time, proceed as follows:

The hour row (4) is in the middle and can be read directly. The minute rows 1 - 9 (5) and 10 - 50 (6) minutes are on the right and must be added together.

For example, one LED in field 4 and one LED in field 30 of the minute rows result in

the total value of 3.4 minutes

The second rows 1-9 (3) and 10-50 (2) are arranged on the left and must also be added together. For example, the second LED in field 8 and the second LED in field 50 give a total value of 58 seconds. The color and shape of the LEDs can vary.

To set the clock, unless it is a DCF-77 radio-controlled clock that is self-setting, proceed as follows.

By placing the corresponding setting key, which contains a small magnet, on the setting point marked on the back (10/11/12), the clock stops running and the corresponding decade series begins to increase their value in steps of one hour or one minute. If the setting key is removed from the corresponding setting point, the LEDs stop at the corresponding point and the clock starts running again.

If the adjustment key is used to touch the respective adjustment point on the back, a corresponding LED (13/14/15) on the back panel lights up. This ensures that the adjustment key is placed in the correct position.

The clock can contain a DCF-77 receiver or a quartz movement.

Furthermore, a liquid crystal display (2) can be incorporated into the back.

The clock is set using a magnetic setting key (quartz version). The case is made entirely of glass parts and glued together to make it waterproof. The side panels each contain an individually produced advertising text or a company logo.

The matrix (dial) on the front and the impression on the side panels are etched from a previously vapor-deposited copper layer and colored. The clock is powered by a plug-in power supply

1. Pyramid clock characterized by a decimal display system that uses light-emitting diodes to display the time instead of conventional hands. 2. Pyramid clock according to claim 1, characterized in that the time is read by adding two values: seconds ( 2/3 ) , minutes ( 5/6 ). 3. Pyramid clock according to claim 1, characterized in that the light-emitting diodes for displaying the minutes ( 5/6 ) and the seconds ( 2/3 ) are each mounted in mirror image around the light-emitting diodes for displaying the hours ( 4 ). 4. Pyramid clock according to claim 1, characterized in that the clock consists of a hermetically sealed glass body. 5. Pyramid clock according to claim 1 , characterized in that the clock can be set with a magnetic setting key without direct contact with the setting points (13/14/15 ) .
