Description

The invention relates to a seating/reclining furniture in the form of a sofa bed, in which the seating area can be enlarged for sleeping purposes.

Such sofa beds are known in different designs. What all known designs have in common is that the seat of the sofa is pulled out horizontally with its full width (depth) in order to be converted into a bed. The seat is formed by a rectangular frame on which the upholstery rests and which has feet or rollers on its front outer corners or in the front area with which it rests on the floor. Below this frame of the seat, in this design, a second frame or slatted frame is provided which rests on a bedding box and which essentially corresponds in size to the frame mentioned above. On both narrow sides,

i.e. at the outer ends of the sofa bed, the bedding box has guides on the upper front side of its side cheeks, in which the first-mentioned frame rests with pins on its rear outer ends and is guided when pulled out. The back of the sofa is either attached to the bedding box or connected to two side armrests as cheeks with which it stands on the floor. In this design of the sofa bed, the seat upholstery consists of a double mattress, the two parts of which lie on top of each other in the normal state of the sofa bed, i.e. when it is being used as a seat, and which are connected to one another on their one long side facing the back of the sofa. To use it as a bed, the double mattress is unfolded after the upper frame has been pulled out, with the upper part resting on the second, stationary frame with slatted frame. This creates a continuous lying surface.

In another known embodiment of the sofa bed, the upper frame is designed in the same way as in the first embodiment. However, the seat with the frame and the upholstery is one piece and is pulled out with the frame. In contrast to the first embodiment, the back of the sofa is attached to the second frame or bedding box using hinges so that after the upper frame has been pulled out, it can be folded around its longitudinal axis onto the second frame/slatted frame. The padded back of the back then forms the lying surface together with the seat pulled out of the sofa.

However, these well-known sofa beds have both technical and aesthetic disadvantages.

The seat part must always be pulled out when converting it into a bed. The front feet of the seat part drag on the floor, which can damage or destroy the floor covering, at least if the piece of furniture is used frequently as a bed or couch. This risk is also present, although possibly reduced, if the feet of the seat part are equipped with castors or if there are additional folding feet with castors that are set up when the seat part is pulled out. Another disadvantage of the known designs is that they are difficult to handle, particularly due to the uneven guidance of the seat part to be pulled out on or onto the bedding box, which often causes it to jam when pulled out. Handling is particularly difficult with the described design of a sofa bed with the double cushion (double mattress) that can be folded out because of its weight. All known sofa beds require a second support frame or bed box with slatted frame, onto which the second mattress part or the back part that can be folded down with hinges is placed after the seat part has been pulled out. In addition to the increase in the number of components, this also results in a deterioration in the aesthetic appearance. In particular, it is not possible to do without side panels (side walls) for the sofa bed that cover the substructure and instead to avoid the impression of massiveness of the piece of furniture by placing it freely on delicate feet.

The object of the invention is to create a sofa bed that avoids the aforementioned disadvantages of the known constructions and achieves a further simplification of the conversion from seating furniture to sleeping furniture (lounger or bed).

This object is essentially achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments are the subject of the further claims.

The sofa bed according to the invention has the seat part (1) and the back part (2). Both consist of a rectangular frame (3) or

(4) made of rigid material, preferably square steel tube. The length of the frames (3, 4) corresponds approximately to the length of the sofa bed. Both frames (3, 4) are covered on their upper and lower sides by the upholstery

(5) and (6), which also covers the front sides of the frames (3, 4) on their longitudinal sides.

The surfaces formed by the frames (3, 4) are preferably designed as slatted frames (J, 8) with springy wooden slats, as indicated in Fig. 3 and 4, or as spring frames. Instead, however, belts or straps can also be clamped into the frames (3, 4) in accordance with the invention.

Instead of the frames (3, 4), full-surface panels made of different materials such as wood, plastic or composite material can also be used within the meaning of the invention, which are covered by the padding (5, 6).

The frames (3, 4) each have a pin (9, 10) or (10, 11) on their two broad sides, which is rigidly attached to them and points horizontally outwards. The pins (9, 10, 11, 12) engage with their outer ends in the sofa feet (13, 14, 15, 16) and are rotatably mounted in them, but are firmly connected to the sofa feet by means of snap rings or in another known manner, i.e. secured against accidental removal of the sofa feet. The sofa feet (13) and (14) on the one hand and (15) and (16) on the other hand are rigidly connected to one another by the side panels (17) and (17').

In this way, the seat part (1) with the pins (9, 10) and the back part (2) with the pins (11, 12) can be folded about their longitudinal axes. To convert the sofa from a seat to a lounger, the seat part (1) is folded 180° towards the front long side of the sofa bed and the back part (2) is folded horizontally in the same way towards the front long side, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby a flat lying surface is formed from the underside of the seat part (1) and the back of the back part (2). To convert the sofa back from a lounger to a seat, the seat part (1) and the back part (2) are folded in the opposite way, as shown in Fig. 6.

To fix the seat part (1) in the horizontal plane both as a seat and as a reclining furniture on the one hand and the back part (2) in the desired inclination as a seat and in the horizontal plane as a reclining furniture, a stop part (18, 19, 20, 21) is attached as a nose-shaped projection to each of the pins (9, 10, 11, 12) on its long side near the attachment to the frame (3, 4).

A ball or roller bearing (22, 22') is inserted between the sides of the frame (3) and the side panels (17, 17'), which are firmly connected to the side panels (17, 17') by screwing (23) or welding. Furthermore, a ball or roller bearing (24, 24') is inserted between the broad sides of the frame (4) and the side panels (17, 17'), which are also firmly connected to the side panels (17, 17') by screwing (25) or welding. The pins (9, 10; 11, 12) engage in the sofa feet (13, 14, 15, 16) through these bearings (22, 22'; 24, 24') and the side panels (17, 17'). The bearings (22, 22'; 24, 24') have openings (26, 26') in the area of the frame (3) and (27, 27') in the area of the frame (4) in the outer area, running in the radius. The stop parts (18, 19; 20, 21) engage in these openings (26, 26'; 27, 27') so that the seat part (1) and the back part (2) can only be rotated and folded over over the radial area of the openings (26, 26') and (27, 27'). For this purpose, the openings are dimensioned such that the openings (26, 26') of the bearings (22, 22') cover a larger radial area or angle than the openings (27, 27') of the bearings (24, 24').

It is within the scope of the invention to dispense with the bearings (22, 22'; 24, 24') and to guide the pins (9, 10; 11, 12) with the stop parts (18, 19; 20, 21) through the side panels (17, 17') into the sofa feet (13, 14, 15, 16), where the stop parts (18, 19; 20, 21) rest against adapted and correspondingly arranged counter stops. Instead of connecting the sofa feet (13) and (15) with the

Side panel (17) on the one hand and the connection of the sofa feet (14) and (16) with the side panel (17') on the other hand, the sofa feet on each outer side of the sofa bed can be equipped with a rigid cross member as a single component, e.g. as a cast part made of aluminum.

Instead of the feet (13, 14, 15, 16) and their connection by the side panels (17, 17'), the sofa bed can also be provided with two side walls according to the invention, with which it stands on the floor and into which the pins (9, 10, 11, 12) engage via the bearings (22, 22'; 24, 24').

The sofa bed according to the invention avoids the technical and aesthetic disadvantages of the known sofa beds described at the beginning, while still retaining the alternative use as seating or reclining furniture. In particular, handling is made much easier because it is no longer necessary to pull out the seat part, thus avoiding damage to the floor. By simply folding the seat part and the back part, a flat lying surface is quickly and easily created, and the conversion back into seating furniture can be carried out just as quickly and easily. The front and rear feet of the sofa bed are firmly connected to one another and their position always remains unchanged regardless of the conversion of the seating furniture into reclining furniture and vice versa. This also means that the structure is more stable. In addition, there are the aesthetic advantages of not having a substructure and the possibility of using feet in a variety of shapes.

Claims (8)

1. Sofa bed with a seat part and a back part, which can be brought into one plane as a lying surface for use as reclining furniture, characterized in that the seat part ( 1 ) in the front sofa feet ( 13 , 14 ) and the back part ( 2 ) in the rear sofa feet ( 15 , 16 ) of the sofa bed are each mounted horizontally to rotate about an imaginary axis. 2. Sofa bed according to claim 1, characterized in that for conversion from seating furniture into reclining furniture, the seat part ( 1 ) and the back part ( 2 ) are each folded over to the front broad side of the sofa bed and brought into a flat surface. 3. Sofa bed according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that the seat part ( 1 ) and the back part ( 2 ) each consist of a rectangular frame ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) made of rigid material, which are covered with padding ( 5 ) and ( 6 ) with the exception of the right and left outer sides, and the frames ( 3 , 4 ) each have on their two outer sides (broad sides) a pin ( 9 , 10 ; 11 , 12 ) which is directed laterally horizontally away from the frame and rigidly attached to it, which engages with its free end in the sofa feet ( 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ) and is rotatably fastened in these, the respective two sofa feet ( 13 , 15 ) or ( 14 , 16 ) being secured on each outer side of the sofa bed by means of a side panel ( 17 ) or ( 17 ') are rigidly connected to each other. 4. Sofa bed according to claim 3, characterized in that a stop part ( 18 , 19 ; 20 , 21 ) is attached as a nose-shaped projection to the pins ( 9 , 10 ) of the frame ( 3 ) and to the pins ( 11 , 12 ) of the frame ( 4 ), and the seat part ( 1 ) is fixed, i.e. held , by means of the stop parts ( 18 , 19 ) in its plane/inclination when the sofa bed is used as a seat, and in its horizontal arrangement as a flat lying surface when it is used as a reclining furniture. 5. Sofa bed according to claim 4, characterized in that the pins ( 9 , 10 ) on the frame ( 3 ) are guided by ball or roller bearings ( 22 , 22 ') and the pins ( 11 , 12 ) on the frame ( 4 ) are guided by ball or roller bearings ( 24 , 24 ') to the side panels ( 17 , 17 ') and into the sofa feet ( 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ), the bearings being firmly connected to the side panels ( 17 , 17 ') and the bearings ( 22 , 22 '; 24 , 24 ') having, in the outer region, section-wise openings ( 26 , 26 ', 27 , 27 ') into which the stop parts ( 18 , 19 ; 20 , 21 ) rotatably engage, and wherein the openings ( 26 , 26 ') of the bearings ( 22 , 22 ') cover a larger radial area or angle than the openings ( 27 , 27 ') of the bearings ( 24 , 24 '), so that the seat part ( 1 ) can be rotated over a larger circular section in the horizontal axis than the back part ( 2 ). 6. Sofa bed according to claim 1 and one or more of claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the frames ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) are designed as slatted frames ( 7 , 8 ). 7. Sofa bed according to claim 1 and one or more of claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the frames ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) are designed as spring frames or have a covering made of belts or bands. 8. Sofa bed according to claim 1 and one or more of claims 2 to 7, characterized in that the sofa bed has two side walls instead of sofa feet ( 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ) with which it stands on the floor and in which the pins ( 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ) are rotatably mounted and fastened.
