Overblowing mechanism for clarinets and basset horns with combined b" mechanism.

Basset horn and clarinet are woodwind instruments; mechanical parts are usually made of nickel silver and galvanically coated.

Normally, the overblow valve on today's clarinets represents a compromise between the overblow function and the tone hole for b'. Other patents solve the problem by dividing the function (DGM 1657314), i.e. by adding a separate tone hole for b', which is opened and closed by a mechanism controlled by the left index finger and a rocker attached to the thumb valve.

These solutions have the following disadvantages:

Audible change between opening b'-key and closing overblowing key (or vice versa), overloading of the left index finger, exact sealing of the tone holes and their subsequent adjustability is not guaranteed and the difference in sound between b' and h' is too great.

The problems listed are solved by the features specified in the protection claim:

The previously open finger hole for the left thumb is now covered by a flap (1) and can be closed by this.

In addition, a tone hole (3) is drilled into the body and a flap (7) is attached, which, when opened, together with the open overblowing flap (2) produces the tone b'.

A lever with adjusting screw (6) attached to the overblow flap can control the additional flap

(7) close.

When you play the note b', both the overblow key (2) via your button (4) and the thumb key (1) are open.

For all other notes it is held closed either by the lever on the overblow key (6) or by the lever (5) on the thumb key.

This arrangement has the advantage that no change between the overblow flap (2) and the b' resonance hole (3) is audible, since both holes are already open.

The thumb (1) controls the resonance key (7), the left index finger operates the a' key as usual without additional strain.

The precise adjustment of the additional resonance flap (7) is carried out via an adjusting screw (grub screw M2) at the end of the lever of the overblow flap (6) and at the end of the resonance flap (7), which hits the lever on the thumb flap.

The sound of the notes a', b' and h' is much more uniform due to this arrangement.

The thumb rests on a key so that the overblow key can now be positioned ergonomically correctly (slightly offset to the right).
