Ring-pull tab with pouring opening cover made of tinplate or aluminum sheet on beverage cans.

It is known to provide beverage cans made of tinplate or aluminum sheet with an aluminum lid to which a tear-off tab (so-called ring-pull tab) is attached, which allows the pouring opening to be pressed in along the predetermined breaking lines by pulling it up, thus opening the can in order to gain access to the can's contents. It is also known that the pouring opening, once opened, cannot be closed or covered without using an additional lid that is not part of the can itself or belongs to the can.

The invention specified in the claim is based on the problem of the pouring opening of beverage cans that cannot be reclosed or covered again after the pouring opening has been opened as described above.

The problem is solved by the possibility of using a special tear-off tab as shown in Figures 1a to 2c of the drawings, as shown in claims 1, 2 and 3. By pulling up the ring-pull tab, the pouring cover (5) is pressed in - this happens along the predetermined breaking lines. The gas pressure in the can can now escape and the can lid relaxes, making the tab movable. After the tab has been bent back, the device can be rotated through 180 degrees so that the cover tongue (1) can be rotated over the pouring opening. The rotation takes place around the rivet in the can lid to which the ring-pull tab is attached. An additional recess (6) in the can lid, into which the tip of the tear-off tab engages, prevents the tab and thus also the cover tongue (1) from slipping sideways from its position above the pouring opening (5).

The advantages achieved with the invention are that insects are prevented from entering the beverage can through the pouring opening. The contents of the can are also protected from dirt particles.

Another advantage of the above-mentioned device for the consumer is that when drinking directly from the can, there is no risk of swallowing an insect that has entered the can, or of possibly being bitten by wasps or bees in the mouth and throat or even in the esophagus, which could lead to life-threatening injuries. If the tear tab with cover for the pouring opening is used correctly, dangerous injuries could be avoided in the future.

Claims (3)

Ring-pull tab with pouring opening cover made of tinplate or aluminium sheet on beverage cans, or on lids of beverage cans made of tinplate, aluminium sheet or other materials, - which is provided with an additional tongue ( 1 ), - is stamped from a single piece or manufactured by another process, - is made of several parts and/or several materials, - is formed, stiffened and strengthened by appropriate processing such as flanging, beading and/or folding, - and is held in place by a rivet in the can lid and is rotatable after the gas has escaped from the can. 2. Tear tab according to claim 1, - wherein the geometric shape of the cover tongue ( 1 ) is adapted to the pouring opening in the can lid and covers it at the edges by one to two millimetres. 3. Can lid with embossed recess ( 6 ), in opposition to the pouring opening, between the rivet and the can rim, into which the tip of the tear tab engages after the pouring opening has been opened, ie pressed in, and the tab with the covering tongue has been rotated by 180 degrees in order to cover the pouring opening.
