L-Carnitin-Präparat zur Verabreichung an PferdeL-carnitine preparation for administration to horses
ft · ·ft · ·
The invention relates to an L-carnitine preparation for administration to horses as a shaped body.
It is primarily involved as an essential cofactor in the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria. In addition, L-carnitine is also important for other processes in fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Among other things, it buffers the ratio of free to bound coenzyme A, promotes the elimination of toxic concentrations of acyl-CoA and supports the production of metabolic energy from substrates such as medium-chain fatty acids, pyruvate and ketone bodies. L-carnitine also stimulates lipolysis and thermogenesis and is involved in perinatal metabolism.
In horses, L-carnitine is also important for normal muscle function and many other metabolic processes.
Until now, L-carnitine has been administered to horses as a supplementary feed in powder form by prior mixing with other powdered carriers or by mixing with water and/or vitamins as a solution.
Deshalb muss der ZusatzstoffWhen mixed with other powdered carriers, the problem is that the premix containing L-carnitine is not absorbed by the horse in this form. The specific smell of L-carnitine and the fine powdery structure are foreign to the horse and therefore lead to poor acceptance. Therefore, the additive must

This is the only way to ensure sufficient intake. However, when administered together with the hay, a considerable amount of the premix remains on the bottom of the feed bar due to the different structures (coarse-fibered hay and fine powder mixture), or is blown away by the horses.
In the case of sport horses, it is also important that they are allowed to eat solid food in the form of hay for the last time 4 hours before use (tournament or race) in order not to impair their performance. However, L-carnitine reaches its full effect in horses after just 2 hours, so that if it is administered together with the last portion of hay, part of the effect is wasted.
There are also problems with administering the product in the form of an aqueous solution. In this case, the solution containing L-carnitine must be administered via the drinking water. Any remaining amounts that are not absorbed by the horse lead to a loss of L-carnitine. The species-specific smell of L-carnitine also comes to the fore and, due to poor acceptance, leads to a fluid intake that is less than the actual requirement. In addition, as with feeding hay, horses should be watered at least 4 hours before the competition, which is too early for the L-carnitine to have an optimal effect.
There is therefore a need to provide L-carnitine preparations for administration to horses which eliminate the disadvantages of the state of the art. In particular, the L-carnitine preparation should be highly accepted by the horse.
Überraschenderweise wurde festgestellt, dass in dieser Form die AkzeptanzThis task is solved by providing an L-carnitine preparation for administration to horses in the form of a shaped body, in particular as a feed bar. Surprisingly, it was found that in this form the acceptance
erheblich höher als bei anderen Darreichungsformen ist. Darüber hinaus wird eine Verabreichung unabhängig von einer Heugabe oder einer Tränkung möglich, außerdem ist eine exakte Dosierung der L-Carnitinzufuhr sichergestellt.is considerably higher than with other dosage forms. In addition, administration is possible independently of hay or water, and an exact dosage of L-carnitine intake is ensured.
The molded body according to the invention preferably has an L-carnitine content in the range of 2 to 20% by weight, particularly preferably 5 to 10% by weight. It is further preferred that it contains at least 1,000 mg, e.g. 1,000 to 15,000 mg, particularly preferably 1,300 to 13,000 mg and most preferably 3,250 to 6,250 mg of L-carnitine per dosage unit, e.g. per food bar.
In addition to L-carnitine, the preparation can contain carriers that improve acceptance by the horse. Examples of such additives are cereals, products and by-products from the processing of cereal grains, products and by-products from sugar production and/or products and by-products from the processing of fruit. Particularly preferred examples of carriers are oat flakes, corn, rice, oat bran, raisins.
Darüber hinaus kann das Präparat gegebenenfalls als Zusatzstoffe noch Mineralien und/oder Vitamine enthalten, beispielsweise Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Niacin, Pantothenat, Folsäure, Eisen, Kupfer, Jod und/oder Selen. In addition, the preparation may contain minerals and/or vitamins as additives, for example vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, niacin, pantothenate, folic acid, iron, copper, iodine and/or selenium.
The administration of the preparation increases performance, e.g. in jumping, racing, eventing and fox hunting, increases stress tolerance and shortens the regeneration phase (prevents muscle fatigue and cramps). The preparation is also suitable for horses with increased metabolic needs, especially when fed a high-fat diet, and for young animals up to three years of age.
Due to a reduced ability to synthesize its own nutrients, it is suitable for situations of metabolic stress such as pregnancy, lactation, cold, infections and after surgical interventions as well as for stallions during the breeding phase.
A 65 g L-carnitine-containing food bar contains 5,000 mg L-carnitine as well as cereals, products and by-products from the processing of cereal grains, products and by-products from sugar production and products and by-products from the processing of fruit.
