(Stand: 17.11.1998) sind oberflächenmontierbare (SMD-) Leuchtdioden bekannt, die bei ihrer Montage auf Leiterplatten mit der lichtabstrahlenden Seite der Leiterplatte zugewandt sind, wobei das Licht durch ein Loch in der Leiterplatte hindurch strahlt. Ähnliche Leuchtdioden werden auch von der Siemens AG unter der Bezeichnung "Hyper TOPLED® RG" vertrieben.
