Abstract

The device uses the thermal and mechanical energy contained in the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle engine, to remove snow and ice buildup or prevent its formation. The exhaust gases are passed through pipes directly behind the engine, and nozzles. These direct the gases in front of the front wheels or the drive wheels of the vehicle.

Description

Vorsorgemaßnahmen (Streudienst ) bieten trotz hoher Kosten keine absolute Sicherheit und sind teilweise auch umweltschädlich (Streusalz!).Every year in the cold season, snow and icy conditions cause traffic accidents and hazards obstacles, in addition to losses in life and health, also with large economies damage. Auxiliary and clearing vehicles often come in such situations no longer testify to the accident sites. Provide preventive measures (spreading service) Despite high costs, there is no such thing as absolute security and some of them are environmentally harmful (Road salt!).

All of this seems avoidable or reducible, considering that everyone is in traffic involved vehicles carry a sufficient energy supply in the form of fuel to the To prevent formation of such unfavorable road conditions. With rail clearance Vehicles have previously been suggested to use burners to close the rails de-icing, which are fed from fuel tanks carried along (see patent specifications E 01 H 8/0, 2 249 469 and 2 328 827).

In contrast to this, in the present application an additional device is used on the streets Motor vehicles involved described which accidents and disabilities in the Avoiding possible weather conditions helps and thereby a part of the loss Engine performance usefully utilized:

It is a device that measures the heat of the exhaust gases from the drive motor and their mechanical energy is used to keep the road ahead of the vehicle wheels from snow and free ice or prevent the formation of such a deposit. Such Devices have also been proposed earlier (see DE 42 29 541 A1, DE 31 02 648 A1, DE-OS 19 00 876, DE 91 13 409 U1, DE 84 02 032 U1). With these At the end of the exhaust system, devices exhaust the exhaust gases partly onto the road, sometimes directed to the tires. A disadvantage of the proposals mentioned is that the exhaust gases at the end of the exhaust pipe, after passing through the mufflers - and in modern vehicles also the catalyst - insufficient mechanical and thermal energy possess in order to satisfactorily fulfill the intended purpose.

On the other hand, the energy of the exhaust gases immediately after exiting the engine cylinders is still so high that it is sufficient to remove layers of snow and ice on the road surface in front of the wheels at moderate speed, which is required in the weather conditions in question. The purpose of the arrangement described in the present application is to keep the path of the exhaust gases from the cylinders to the road surface as short as possible and to keep the energy of the exhaust gases as high as possible. To achieve this, for example, a 3-way valve made of heat-resistant materials, such as z. B. are common in rocket technology on thermally highly stressed components, is introduced. In normal operation, the exhaust gases flow into the exhaust pipe ( Fig. 1). In critical weather conditions, the valve is set so that the exhaust gases are diverted into two lines, at the end of which appropriately shaped nozzles direct the hot gas jets onto the road immediately in front of the front wheels or the drive wheels, so that the lane is free of snow and ice or remains, whereby a slight lateral inclination of the nozzles should cause any ice residues left in the lane to be blown away ( Fig. 2). The present illustrations, which show only one of the lines, are only schematic drawings, since the actual design and arrangement of the individual components depends on the respective vehicle construction. When arranging and designing the exhaust pipes mentioned, however, the aim should be that they are led past the exhaust manifold as close as possible, as short as possible and well insulated in the last part so that the exhaust gas does not cool down too much. In addition, the flow resistance must not be too high.

From these conditions it appears that the arrangement described above all Vehicles with front engine and front wheel drive or rear engine and rear wheel drive very cheap is, but also advantageously used in vehicles with front engine and rear-wheel drive that can. The more vehicles they use, the better their effectiveness is are equipped. That in their operation the catalytic converter and the silencer of the vehicles are not functional, can in the mostly short-term, weather-related exceptional situations be considered acceptable.
