Description
It is noteworthy that by this procedure also at pH values above 6.0 chlorine dioxide oxidation of the keratin can be carried out. In general pH values from 3.0 to 10.0 are used, if necessary with an organic or inorganic acids such as formic acid or sulfuric acid are adjusted in a known manner will.
The activation of chlorite by persulfate allows it to be fully automated to work, since it is not necessary to readjust the pH value during depilation is.
As usual, the skins are put into the barrel, and then the liquor with the desired amounts of chlorite plus persulfate added: The persulfate develops Chlorine dioxide, which attacks hair keratin. In addition, however, the persulfate also contributes contributes to hair oxidation. After an exposure time of the oxidation liquor of 2-15 Hours of follow-up treatment with weak to strong alkalis and / or alkaline Salt for 10 - 100 minutes connected. Alkali carbonates are used as the alkaline salts or bicarbonates, as well as alkali phosphates in question. The alkalis are in concentrations from 0.5 to 5 percent by weight based on the weight of the skin. To prevent If swelling occurs, table salt can be added (up to .10 l the amount of liquor).
If necessary, the alkali treatment can be followed by bleaching with the mixture of chlorites and persulfates according to the invention. This re-bleaching will take about 15 to 180 minutes. The rate of oxidation and bleaching of a mixture of chlorite and persulfate is greater than that of a pure chlorite solution activated with acid (see Examples 1 and 2). In addition to the shorter depilation time and better oxidation of the hair roots, the amount of chlorite is reduced compared to the known methods. At spi e1: 1.3 kg of a cowhide soaked in pure water and fleshed were treated in a plexiglass whale barrel with 50% (= 0.75 liters) of an aqueous solution, which contained 100 ml of a 30% sodium chlorite solution and 50 g of sodium persulfate or ammonium persulfate contained in the liter. After 3 - 10 minutes, chlorine dioxide develops in the barrel, which together with the per compound causes the oxidation of the hair keratin. The pH value is approx. 8 - 9 at the beginning of the experiment and drops to 3 - 4 during the treatment period. After 1 to 8 hours, the hair is oxidized to such an extent that it dissolves in a weakly to strongly alkaline solution. For this purpose, the oxidation liquor is drained off and the skin with 1 - 2% NaiC03 or. Na2Uü3 in 20 - 100% water, if necessary drummed without the addition of water. The oxidized hair has completely dissolved after 20-30 minutes. A short re-bleaching with approx. 20% of the above oxidation solution can follow.
As a comparison, 1.35 kg of the same cow hide as treated in Example 1 with 7% of a 30% sodium chlorite solution in 40 ö liquor. The solution was with formic and sulfuric acid to a pH of 3.0-3.2 acidified. After the same exposure time as in Example 1, the hair was far less attacked here. This was shown very clearly. then when you get the wanted to dissolve oxidized hair with alkalis. In this case it was only about 2/3 - 3/4 of the hair shafts dissolved, while in example 1 the hair completely dissolved became.
1.5 kg of a meat are softened and fleshed Treated cow skin, except that ammonium persulphate was used instead of sodium persulphate became. The result was the same.
