Immerhin wird der Zylinderkopfboden dadurch gut gestützt, so daß seine Wanddicke gering gewählt werden kann. Durch die Kühlwassereintrittsöffnung 6 wird das Kühlwasser, vom Kühlmantel des zeichnerisch nicht dargestellten Zylinders herkommend, dem Zylinderkopf in der Nähe der Einlaßkanäle 2 zugeführt. Die zunächst im wesentlichen nach oben gerichtete Wasserströmung bewirkt eine allgemeine Druckwirbelung des ganzen Wasserraumes. Durch die tiefe Lage der Eintrittsöffnungen 7 der Steigrohre 8 bildet sich in der Nähe des Zylinderkopfbodens 1 eine intensive Bodenströmung aus, die vorzugsweise die Gaskanäle für den Auslaß 3 erfaßt. Die beiden Auslaßkanäle 3 vereinigen sich hosenrohrartig zu einem gemeinsamen Abgasaustritt9, der den Mantel 10 des Zylinderkopfes durchbricht. Die Steigrohre 8 sind beiderseits symmetrisch zu dem Hosenrohr angeordnet. Die Folge davon ist, daß sich die Bodenströmung vollkommen symmetrisch verzweigt, wie durch die Pfeile 11 angedeutet. Erfindungsgemäß befinden sich die Ausmündungen 12 der Steigrohre 8 in einem Kühlwassersammelraum 13, der sich zwischen der Deckplatte 4 und dem hochgezogenen Rand 14 des Zylinderkopfes befindet. Dabei ergibt sich einerseits die Möglichkeit, den Rand 14 in einer Ebene anzuordnen und den Zylinderkopf mit einer Haube 15, die gleichfalls einen ebenen Rand hat, dicht abzudecken und andererseits der Vorteil, die Gußkerne über die sich ergebenden Durchbrüche für die Steigrohre 8 und den gemeinsamen Kühlwasserabfluß 16 abzustützen und später zu entfernen. Die vom Rand 14 umschlossene wannenartige Vertiefung 17 bildet in vorteilhafter Weise einen Sammelraum für Lecköl.
