Diese bekannten Gestelle lassen sich der verschiedenen Größe der Muttertiere dadurch anpassen, daß die Gestellwände im Bodenrahmen auseinanderschiebbar sind, wobei zur Vermeidung größerer Lücken in den trapezförmigen Stirnwänden in diese verschieden lange Latten eingesteckt werden können. Es sind auch schon kastenartige Lattengestelle für diesen Zweck bekannt, deren vordere Stirnfläche offen ist und dort lediglich eine in Ferkelhöhe fest angeordnete Schutzstange vorgesehen ist, die den Jungtieren Unterschlupf bietet und sie vor Verletzungen durch das Muttertier schützt. Alle diese bekannten Gestelle haben jedoch den Nachteil, daß die Zugänglichkeit zum Muttertier und dem Inneren des Kastengestells zu Reinigungszwecken sehr erschwert ist, weil dieses lediglich durch eine Klappe in der Gestelldecke oder durch die offene Vorderseite zugänglich ist. Außerdem verhindern die verhältnismäßig dichten Gestellwände das Beobachten der Tiere. Ferner ist ein Anpassen der Gestellgröße an die Größe des Muttertieres umständlich und zeitraubend, abgesehen davon, daß zur Veränderung der Gestellgröße das Bereithalten von Ausgleichslatten erforderlich ist.
