Abstract

The road vehicle headlight has a lamp (2) with a fixed optical system (4). The lamp may be a UHP (Ultra High Pressure) gas discharge lamp, an arc lamp, a halogen lamp or a LED array. An elliptical mirror (9) produces a focused beam of light (8) which passes through a scattering lens (10). The light beam is reflected off a plane mirror through a second lens (11) onto a DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) array (5). The individual micromirrors (6) may be adjustable in two directions. Light reflected from the DMD array may be reflected through a third lens (13) to form a beam illuminating an object (22).
