Abstract

The road vehicle has an internal combustion engine connected to a transmission via a clutch and has an auxiliary drive. This consists of an electrical machine and a high-capacity accumulator battery. The electrical machine may act as a motor, drawing current from the accumulator battery, or as a generator charging the accumulator battery. Whenever possible, the cruise control uses the auxiliary electrical machine to charge the accumulator battery, ready for situations when auxiliary electric power is needed.
