Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, ein Gehäuse einer Dichtungseinrichtung, vorzugsweise einer Gleitringdichtung, über welches diese an einem Lagergehäuse einer Wasserpumpe fixierbar ist, nicht mehr wie bisher bekannt aus Metall, sondern zukünftig aus Kunststoff auszubilden. Ein derartiges Kunststoffgehäuse lässt sich dauerhaft dicht mit einem ebenfalls aus Kunststoff ausgebildeten Lagergehäuse der Wasserpumpe verbinden, wodurch die Dichtigkeit einer derartigen Wasserpumpe langfristig, vorzugsweise über die gesamte Lebensdauer, gewährleistet werden kann. Durch die Wahl derselben Werkstoffe oder von Werkstoffen mit einem zumindest annähernd gleichen Wärmeausdehnungskoeffizienten, sowohl für das Lagergehäuse der Wasserpumpe als auch für das Gehäuse der Gleitringdichtung können unterschiedlich Wärmeausdehnungskoeffizienten, die zwangsläufig im Laufe der Zeit zu unerwünschten Dichtungsproblemen führen würden, vermieden werden. Vorzugsweise handelt es sich bei den Werkstoffen um geeignete Kunststoffe wie z. B. faserverstärkte Thermoplaste oder faserverstärkte Duroplaste. Zudem kann durch die Herstellung des Gehäuses der Gleitringdichtung aus Kunststoff ein flexibles und zugleich kostengünstiges Gehäuse geschaffen werden, welches zudem auf mannigfaltige Weise, beispielsweise mittels Verkleben, Verschweigen oder ähnlichem, mit dem Lagergehäuse der Wasserpumpe verbunden werden kann.The present invention is based on the general idea, a housing of a sealing device, preferably a mechanical seal, via which it can be fixed to a bearing housing a water pump, no longer as previously known from metal, but in the future form of plastic. Der Dichtring und/oder der Gegenring können dabei aus Keramik, insbesondere aus Siliziumcarbit, oder aus Graphit ausgebildet werden. Der Dichtring und der Gegenring bilden beim Betrieb der Gleitringdichtung die aneinander anliegenden Dichtflächen, wobei der Dichtring üblicherweise drehfest mit dem Gehäuse der Gleitringdichtung und damit drehfest mit dem Lagergehäuse der Wasserpumpe verbunden ist, wogegen der Gegenring üblicherweise drehfest mit der Aufnahme und damit drehfest mit der Welle der Wasserpumpe verbunden ist. Sowohl Siliziumcarbit als auch Graphit haben unterschiedliche und individuelle Eigenschaften, wobei beispielsweise Graphit eine geringe Verlustreibung aufweist. Siliziumcarbit hingegen weist eine hohe Härte sowie einen hohen Schmelzpunkt auf und dadurch besonders geeignet für die Verwendung als sogenannte Ingenieurkeramik.
