Description

The present invention relates to the use of reflective pigments in lacquer layers with defined illumination to produce a sham movement during the angle-dependent viewing of the lacquer layer. The invention furthermore relates to effect pigments based on platelet-shaped substrates having a defined distribution of particle curvature.

The eye is able to transform the appearance of two objects into a movement impression at a certain temporal and spatial distance. The object of the present invention is to create a pseudo-motion (such as when viewing the starry sky) during the angle-dependent viewing of paint layers by using pigments under defined illumination.

  • τ10: < 2°
  • τ50: < 3,3°
  • τ90: < 7,4°,
d. h., mindestens 10 % der reflektierenden Effektpigmente haben eine geringere geometrische Winkelabweichung von der planen Partikelfläche als 2°, mindestens 50 % der reflektierenden Effektpigmente haben eine geringere geometrische Winkelabweichung von der planen Partikelfläche als 3,3° und mindestens 90% der reflektierenden Effektpigmente haben eine geringere geometrische Winkelabweichung von der planen Partikelfläche als 7,4°.Surprisingly, it has been found that effect pigments with a defined concentration and / or a defined surface coverage and / or with a defined number of particles per surface, which are used in commercially available paints, cause an apparent movement in the viewer. The condition of the apparent movement is fulfilled when effect pigments are used whose distribution of the particle curvatures τ from the averaged plane shape over the total ensemble of the effect pigments is described by their quantiles as follows:
  • τ10: <2 °
  • τ50: <3.3 °
  • τ90: <7.4 °,
ie, at least 10% of the reflective effect pigments have a smaller geometric angle deviation from the plane particle surface than 2 °, at least 50% of the reflective effect pigments have a lower geometric angle deviation from the planar particle surface than 3.3 ° and at least 90% of the reflective effect pigments have one lower geometric angle deviation from the plane particle surface than 7.4 °.

Coating layers pigmented with the above-mentioned planar effect pigments show, under direct illumination as the light source (sample or observer) moves, a sham movement of reflected light spots resulting from reflection of the incident light on the effect pigments.

In the case of the lacquer layers pigmented with the effect pigments according to the invention, the perception of the pigment via the angle-dependent viewing of the lacquer layer is between 60 and 200 ms.

The apparent movement is characterized by the fact that when the light source moves from the specular to higher aspecular angles and the sample is directed and irradiated in parallel, the points of light (produced by light reflection on effect pigments) have an angle-dependent "lifetime" whose distribution is described as quantiles as follows becomes: S10: 4-5 ° S50: 9-10 ° S90: 18-23 ° and there is no spot of light having a "life" of over 33 °, ie 10% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 5 °; 50% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 10 ° and 90% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 23 °. The lacquer layer is characterized in that it has a layer thickness of 5 to 100 microns, preferably from 5 to 40 microns.

In a preferred embodiment for the apparent movement, the number of reflective effect pigments is at least 1 pigment / mm 2 . In a further preferred embodiment, the area coverage of the lacquer layer by the planar effect pigments is ≦ 50%, preferably ≦ 35%.

The invention also relates to the use of the effect pigment according to the invention in paints, lacquers, automotive coatings, powder coatings, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, ceramic materials, glasses, paper, in toners for electrophotographic printing processes, in seeds, in greenhouse films and tarpaulins, as absorbers in the Laser marking of paper and plastics, in cosmetic formulations, for the preparation of pigments with water, organic and / or aqueous solvents, for the production of pigment preparations and dry preparations, for mass coloration of food, for coloring coatings of food products and pharmaceutical products and in value documents.

Beispiel 1example 1

The particles are largely separated by vertical positions of the sheet. The still adhering to the sheet flakes are separated by means of a brush of sheet metal and collected. This process is performed a total of ten times until an amount of 25.6 g of sheet-adhering leaflets is recovered. The leaflets combined from the ten individual operations have a D 50 of 19.2 μm, D 90 of 35.9 μm, a particle thickness of 255 nm and a particle thickness distribution of 33.
