Description
The present invention relates to the use of reflective pigments in lacquer layers with defined illumination to produce a sham movement during the angle-dependent viewing of the lacquer layer. The invention furthermore relates to effect pigments based on platelet-shaped substrates having a defined distribution of particle curvature.
The eye is able to transform the appearance of two objects into a movement impression at a certain temporal and spatial distance. The object of the present invention is to create a pseudo-motion (such as when viewing the starry sky) during the angle-dependent viewing of paint layers by using pigments under defined illumination.
Coating layers pigmented with the above-mentioned planar effect pigments show, under direct illumination as the light source (sample or observer) moves, a sham movement of reflected light spots resulting from reflection of the incident light on the effect pigments.
In the case of the lacquer layers pigmented with the effect pigments according to the invention, the perception of the pigment via the angle-dependent viewing of the lacquer layer is between 60 and 200 ms.
In a preferred embodiment for the apparent movement, the number of reflective effect pigments is at least 1 pigment / mm 2 . In a further preferred embodiment, the area coverage of the lacquer layer by the planar effect pigments is ≦ 50%, preferably ≦ 35%.
The invention also relates to the use of the effect pigment according to the invention in paints, lacquers, automotive coatings, powder coatings, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, ceramic materials, glasses, paper, in toners for electrophotographic printing processes, in seeds, in greenhouse films and tarpaulins, as absorbers in the Laser marking of paper and plastics, in cosmetic formulations, for the preparation of pigments with water, organic and / or aqueous solvents, for the production of pigment preparations and dry preparations, for mass coloration of food, for coloring coatings of food products and pharmaceutical products and in value documents.
The invention thus also relates to formulations containing the effect pigment of the invention.

Reflection measurements are made on the paint layer above the black background.
The distribution of the particle curvatures t from the averaged plane shape over the total ensemble of particles is described by their quantiles as follows: τ10: 1.5 °; τ50: 2.8 °; τ90: 7.1 °. The resulting coating is characterized by the fact that when moving an LED lamp Scangrip Color Match from the specular to higher aspecular angles (sample directed and irradiated in parallel), the points of light (generated by light reflection on effect pigments) have an angle-dependent "life" whose Distribution as quantiles is described as follows: S10: 4.3 °; S50: 9.6 °; S90: 21.3 °. No point of light is observed that has a "lifetime" of over 31.8 °. 10% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 5 °; 50% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 10 ° and 90% of all reflection points disappear when the light source is moved more than 23 °.
