Abstract

Description

The present invention relates to a housing for a person's identification item, for example, an identity card holder. It further relates to an identification item with such a housing and to the use of such an identification item.

In the event of cardiac arrest, the immediate and correct performance of chest compressions is often crucial for the patient's survival. However, even trained first responders frequently struggle to maintain the optimal rhythm of chest compressions for several minutes in emergency situations.

From the US 8 317 519 B1 A portable pacemaker is known which can be used by medical professionals to provide a rhythm for chest compressions tailored to the individual patient, especially their age.

However, such a pacemaker is hardly usable by laypersons. Furthermore, it is not readily available in emergency situations outside of hospitals when laypersons are acting as first responders.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an aid for medical laypersons who, in the event of cardiac arrest, perform chest compressions as first responders.

This problem is solved by the subject matter of the independent patent claim. Further embodiments are the subject matter of the dependent claims.

According to one aspect of the invention, a housing for a person's identification item is provided, which has a receiving area for the identification item, wherein the housing further comprises a clock generator permanently connected to the housing for emitting a signal for the rhythm of a cardiac compression massage.

In this and the following, an identification item is understood to be an object used for the identification and/or authentication of persons, and which therefore carries or generates information suitable for identification and/or authentication. The identification item may, in particular, be a company ID card, a transponder card for access control ("ID card"), or a so-called security token.

The casing can therefore contain, in addition to the identification device, a pacemaker that provides the rhythm for chest compressions in emergency situations. This has the advantage that the pacemaker is permanently attached to an item that people often carry anyway. Thus, the pacemaker is automatically carried along and, in an emergency, is potentially available to both the person receiving treatment and the first responder, but most likely to be with at least one of them.

Connecting the pacemaker to an item that a large number of people already carry with them at all times allows these individuals to easily access the optimal rhythm for chest compressions. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of successfully performing chest compressions.

According to the invention, the housing is designed as an identification card holder. In particular, it can be designed as a card holder for an ID-1 card standardized according to ISO 7816, also known as a credit card-sized card. Such cards, with a format of 85.60 mm × 53.98 mm, are frequently used for identification, also in the form of transponder cards.

In one embodiment, the clock is located in the lower part of the ID card holder, below the card slot. This allows the ID card holder to be used in the usual way by inserting the card into the slot. When attached, it extends slightly further down than a conventional ID card holder without a clock, simply due to the placement of the clock.

In this embodiment, the housing can have, in addition to the slot for the identification card, a further slot for a second card with printed first-aid information. In this embodiment, a second card, not visible from the front, with the same format as the identification card, can be stored in the slot behind the identification card. This card is visible from the back of the identification card holder and contains instructions for performing first-aid measures.

Another conceivable design involves printing or similarly affixing the first aid information to one side, particularly the back of the ID card holder. This has the advantage that the instructions are easily accessible. They cannot be lost. Such an ID card holder with first aid information can also have, in addition to the slot for the ID card, a further slot for a second card.

ID card holders equipped with first aid instructions have the advantage that, in addition to the timing device, they can also contain these instructions without significantly affecting the holder's dimensions. The opening simply needs to be slightly larger to accommodate the second card.

Alternatively or additionally, the ID card holder can be provided with a storage and playback device for audio files in order to provide voice instructions to the user.

In one embodiment of the invention, the housing is designed as the housing of a security token. Here and in the following, a security token is understood to be an object that can store and transmit information for the purpose of identifying and authenticating persons. Such a security token has a housing, usually made of plastic, inside which the corresponding electronics are located. Furthermore, the housing often has a display, e.g., for showing a PIN, or a USB port, and an area where a fastening element, e.g., for attaching it to a keyring, can be attached.

In one embodiment, the clock generator is integrated into the housing. For this purpose, the housing is designed as a single component, for example made of plastic, which both accommodates the clock generator and has the receiving area for the identification object.

According to the invention, the clock generator can be activated by a control element. The control element is designed so that it cannot be accidentally activated. For example, the control element can be a recessed button. Alternatively or additionally, activation of the control element can require pressing the button for a certain period of time, for example, 2 seconds. Alternatively or additionally, it is conceivable that the tone sequence is started when the control element is activated and is only stopped when the control element is activated again. In a further embodiment, it is provided that an emergency service is notified when the control element is activated; for this purpose, the ID card holder can, in particular, include a telemetry module.

The timer can be of an electronic type, in which case a power supply must be provided. A battery or similar suitable power supply is particularly suitable. It is also conceivable that a monitoring device is provided to monitor the power supply and inform the user of decreasing power, for example, by means of a light and/or sound signal.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the clock generator outputs the signal at a fixed, predetermined frequency. In this embodiment, there is therefore neither the possibility nor the need to preselect a suitable frequency. This has the advantage that operation is very simple and can be carried out quickly in an emergency. A further advantage is that the clock generator can be designed to be particularly simple, lightweight, and inexpensive. These two advantages make the clock generator, when integrated into the housing, particularly suitable for everyday use by a layperson in the medical field.

The clock generator has an output element for outputting a signal. This output element can be configured to output an optical, acoustic, and/or haptic signal.

In one embodiment, the housing has a fastening element for attaching it to another object, for example, a clip for attaching it to a garment or a section for attaching it to a keyring. This ensures that the housing with the clock generator can be easily carried around.

According to one aspect of the invention, an identification item with the described housing is provided, for example, an identification card in an identification card holder or a security token. Thus, the identification item can be used for internal identification and/or authentication of employees, in particular also for access control to the company premises.
