Mit Hilfe der Erfindung können die Heizsegmente des Schweißbalkens, die eine geringere Heizleistung zum Verschweißen benötigen, auf eine niedrigere Temperatur individuell eingestellt werden. Im Gegensatz dazu können die Heizsegmente im Schweißbalken, die eine größere Heizleistung zum Verschweißen erzeugen müssen, auf eine höhere Temperatur individuell eingestellt werden. Mit der Erfindung ist es also möglich, jede notwendige Wärmemenge für die Verschweißung durch die individuell einstellbare Heizleistung in einem Heizsegment des Schweißbalkens einzustellen. Falls die Beutelformate kleiner als die Länge des Schweißbalkens sind, besteht die Möglichkeit einzelne nicht zur Verschweißung notwendige Heizsegmente nicht zu beheizen.
