In its reverse direction switchable backstop ( 1 ) for retrofitting into a reel for a fishing rod, in particular a reel according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the backstop ( 1 ) at least one pivotally mounted pawl ( 2a . 2 B . 2c . 2d ) and cooperating with the pawl ratchet wheel ( 3 ), wherein at least two pawls ( 2a . 2 B . 2c . 2d ) are provided, each having a single locking arm ( 2a ' . 2 B' . 2c ' . 2d ' ) which is pivotable from a blocking position to a release position, and wherein the locking arms ( 2a ' . 2 B' . 2c ' . 2d ' ) in such a way with the ratchet wheel ( 3 ) cooperate, that the ratchet wheel ( 3 ) of a first of the barrier arms ( 2a ' . 2c ' ) is blocked in a first blocking position in a clockwise direction, while at the same time another of the locking arms ( 2 B' . 2d ' ) is in the release position, and from the other of the locking arms ( 2 B' . 2d ' ) is blocked in a second blocking position in the counterclockwise direction, while at the same time the first of the locking arms ( 2a ' . 2c ' ) is in the release position.
