Die mit vertretbarem Aufwand darstellbare Einrichtung wird durch einen Elektromotor und ein Axialbewegungen ausführendes Getriebe gebildet, über die der Schalthebel bezüglich seiner Länge veränderbar ist Der Elektromotor ist als Kompakteinheit ausgeführt, und er ist in den Schaltknauf des Schalthebels eingebaut. Das mit diesem Elektromotor zusammenarbeitende Getriebe weist eine Spindelwelle auf, die mit einem festen Gewindeauge in einer Schaltstange des Schalthebels im Eingriff steht. Der Schaltknauf ist mit einem Führungsrohr verbunden, das die Schaltstange örtlich umgibt und sich unter Vermittlung von Lagerelementen an einer Außenseite der Schaltstange axial beweglich abstützt. Zur Ansteuerung des Elektromotors dient ein einfacher Bedienschalter, der oberflächenbündig in den Schaltknauf integriert ist.
