Abhängig von der jeweiligen Konfiguration im System ist eine Positionsanfrage von einem berechtigten Anschluss aus zu einem bestimmten anderen Gerät über seine zugeordnete Rufnummer möglich. Dem Anfragenden werden dann die Informationen in beschriebener Weise von der Dienstplattform übermittelt werden. Eine ortsunabhängige Anwendung ergibt sich in Verbindung mit einem mobilen Endgerät mit Positionsdatenfunktion. Wesentlicher Bestandteil des ist ein integrierter Global Position System (GPS)-Empfänger. Dieses Gerät ist über ein Kommunikationsmedium mit der Dienstplattform verbunden, zum Beispiel einem Mobilfunknetz. Mittels eines speziellen Anrufs, kommend oder gehend, werden die GPS-Ortsdaten zur Dienstplattform übermittelt.
