Abstract

Open-cell melamine resin foam (MF foam) in which the surface of the cell structure is completely or partly coated with a fluoroalkyl ester. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of MF foam by spraying or impregnating the foam with an aqueous emulsion of a fluoroalkyl ester, then squeezing off excess liquid and drying at 40-200 deg C.

Description

The invention relates to an open-cell melamine resin foam fabric with reduced oil and water absorption.

Foams made from melamine / formaldehyde condensation products ("MF foams") are characterized by an excellent Sound absorption off. They are therefore mainly used in construction, but also used in automotive and shipbuilding. On Because of their open cells, they easily take liquids such as Water, hydrocarbons and oils on what disadvantages in the leads mentioned application areas.

It is known from EP-A 633 283 that the water absorption of MF Foams by coating the foam framework with a Water repellents, in particular with an aqueous emulsion of a silicone resin can be reduced. However, it has shown that the oil absorption is hardly reduced.

The invention was therefore based on the object, not only the Water but also the oil absorption of MF foams Reduce.

This object is achieved according to the invention in MF foams, in which the surface of the cell framework is wholly or partly with is coated with a fluoroalkyl ester, preferably 0.001 to 5, in particular with 0.01 to 1 wt .-%.

They are prepared according to EP-B 17 671 by foaming an aqueous solution of an MF condensation product which contains an emulsifier, an acidic curing agent and a blowing agent, preferably a C 5 -C 7 hydrocarbon , and curing the MF condensate at elevated temperature. These foams are then sprayed or soaked with an aqueous emulsion of the fluoroalkyl ester according to the invention, excess liquid is squeezed off and the foam is dried at temperatures between 40 and 200 ° C., preferably between 100 and 160 ° C. The aqueous emulsion of the fluoroalkyl ester is preferably 0.1 to 20% by weight, in particular 0.01 to 1% by weight.

The fluoroalkyl esters are preferably perfluorinated. C 1 -C 10 esters of (meth) acrylic acid, poly (meth) acrylic acid, phosphoric acid and of C 1 -C 6 fatty acids are preferred. Suitable commercial products are e.g. B. PERSISTOL O from BASF and DIPOLIT 480 from Rotta. The percentages given in the examples relate to the weight.

BeispieleExamples

Als Fluoralkylester wurde Dipolit 480 (Ra. Rotta) und als Silikonharz wurde Sitren 595 (Fa. Goldschmidt) eingesetzt. Dipolit 480 (Ra. Rotta) was used as the fluoroalkyl ester and as Silicone resin was used in Sitren 595 (from Goldschmidt). MF Foam blocks measuring 10 x 10 x 2 cm were made as follows pre-treated. The foam blocks were placed in a for 1 minute aqueous emulsion was immersed, excess liquid was squeezed off using a two-roll mill and the foam blocks were dried at 160 ° C for 60 min.

The oil absorption of the foam blocks was carried out as follows guided:

The pretreated foam blocks were floated in a bath of an engine lubricating oil SAE viscosity class 10 W. To The foam blocks were removed from the bath for 2.5 h and this Drain the oil for 10 minutes. The foam was each weighed before and after the swim test.
