Description

Ball joint for rods of all kinds, especially for steering rods from Motor vehicles The invention relates to a maintenance-free ball joint for linkages of all kinds, especially for steering linkages of motor vehicles, in which in a housing the ball head pin is mounted.

Numerous embodiments are known for such ball joints, namely those in which the metallic ball head is not in a metallic one Lining of the housing is mounted, but is elastically intercepted by the lining of the case is made of elastic material such as rubber or plastic.

In one of the known embodiments, the elastic property of the joint changed in that the ball head is used, in which a metallic The cone is coated with a spherical layer of hard rubber, creating a elasticity that changes gradually from the inside of the joint to the outside can be achieved.

In another embodiment that has become known, the metallic one is used Spigot at all only as an inner, rib-like stiffening of the entire ball stud Part, while the ball head is made of rubber or a plastic compound.

In addition, an embodiment has become known in which the ball head has a frustoconical upper part, being in the central zone of the head a constriction is provided and the entire head is elastic in one on it = vulcanized rubber lining so that the movements of the head are caused by the stretching of the rubber at angular deflections.

All of these embodiments are based on the idea that the ball stud must be elastically mounted in order to absorb impacts caused by potholes, these known embodiments also achieve freedom from maintenance will.

The invention is based on the knowledge that elasticity in the ball joint is only required to the extent that sufficient damping is achieved, in particular for those impacts which act on the pin in the longitudinal direction. On the other hand, under all circumstances the pin should be transverse to this direction of impact, i. H. in the direction of the steering linkage, the stability can be guaranteed to the same extent as is achieved with the known ball joints consisting only of metal and metal alloys.

The invention provides a ball joint to solve this problem, in which the ball head of a pin is mounted in a housing, which consists of a metallic, frustoconical core and a plastic layer surrounding this core is made of polyurethane. The invention consists in the fact that the elastic, however relatively hard set plastic layer of the ball head in the transverse to the center axis of the journal is thinner than in the and underlying zones. Such a composite of two materials Ball head combines the advantages of the metal ball joint with those of the plastic joint, in which the stability of the steering is guaranteed with good general damping.

The drawing illustrates the invention in side view, partly on average.

A pivot pin 1 carries a ball head 2 which is rotatably and pivotably mounted in a housing 3. The housing 3 is covered on the pin-free side by a cap 4, which serves as an abutment for a spring 5 , which is supported on the other side against the ball head 2 with a sheet metal disk 6 interposed. According to this embodiment, a bellows 7 , which is fastened to the housing and rests closely on the neck of the pin and serves as a lubricant reservoir, is provided at the housing opening through which the ball stud 1 emerges.

The ball head 2 consists of a metal core 8 and a plastic layer 9 made of polyurethane with a Shore hardness of at least 90 'which surrounds this core. The wall thickness of the polyurethane layer 9 ranges between 1.5 and 4 mm. The metal core 8 has the shape of a truncated cone and is flattened in the direction of the spring 5 , so that the joint has particularly damping properties only in the case of vertical or approximately vertical impact loads. The anchoring of the polyurethane layer 9 on the metal core 8 can be done by an adhesive.

According to the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, the sliding surface serving as a ball socket in the interior of the housing 3 is lined with a smoothly sliding thermoplastic plastic layer 11 . As a suitable plastic, polyamide, polycarbonate, polystyrene, fluorine-containing high polymers and the like can be used. However, casting resins can also be used for this purpose, e.g. B. of the type of epoxy resins or unsaturated polyester resins, which glass fibers can be added for reinforcement. The metal housing, which can consist of a forging blank with normal forging tolerance, is heated by the known high-frequency process to harden the plastic after it has been lined with plastic. Here, the plastic is brought into its final shape using a calibration tool under pressure and heat.
