Die bekannten Panzerplatten sind aus Fadenlagen hergestellt, die durch ein glattes oder geripptes Gewebe gebildet werden und sich in der Praxis als sehr ungeeignet für die Herstellung von gekrümmten Panzerplatten erwiesen haben, da solche Fadenlagen ihrer Formung in gekrümmte Platten hohen Widerstand entgegensetzen, weil die gesponnenen Fäden nur mit Schwierigkeit und in geringem Ausmaß gegeneinander gelagert werden können.
