Abstract

A hologram (2) is placed on one surface of a glass product (1) and another glass surface (3) can be placed on the other side of the hologram (2), whereby the hologram (2) is connected to the glass surfaces by a transparent adhesive. A glass product with a hologram is produced by grinding at least one flat surface of a glass casting to a perfect plane using optical grinding, then polishing it with pumice and can further be polished to the highest gloss using cerium dioxide. The surface is then degreased and a very thin transparent adhesive cured by UV radiation is spread on it. A hologram treated in a degreasing bath is placed in the adhesive and the product is illuminated by UV radiation. An identically treated glass surface, optically ground, degreased, provided with a layer of adhesive, can be placed on the side of the hologram that is facing away from the casting, and only then is the product illuminated by UV radiation.

Hologram glass product and process for its manufacture

Technical field

The invention relates to glass articles such as paperweights, vases, cups, bowls and the like which are provided with a hologram which is a new decorative element of the articles.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Glass products are known within which various real or completely abstract objects, shapes and motifs that are decorative in nature are placed by different techniques. Usually, these objects are embedded or sealed into the glass and subsequently the glass articles thus treated are finally ground and the like.

It is known to combine a glass plate with a hologram in which the hologram is covered by laminated glass to protect the hologram from oxidation. As is the case with JP 5279090. In this case, the hologram is placed on the surface of the glass base, then liquid glass is applied to it, which hardens thereon and forms a protective layer. Another solution is disclosed in JP 10226538 in which the hologram is bonded to the glass base by an adhesive and subsequently a transparent wear-resistant resin is applied. This solution is to protect the hologram against water. However, none of the known solutions uses the hologram in the glass for a decorative purpose.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a glass article having a hologram on at least one planar surface thereof. Advantageously, a hologram overlay layer of clear or colored glass is provided on the side of the hologram facing away from the glass article. The hologram is bonded to the glass surfaces by adhesive.

The essence of the hologram glass product is that the at least one planar surface of the glass casting is ground to a perfect plane by means of optical grinding, i.e., successive grinding from coarse abrasive paper of grain size 60-80 to grain size 800-1000, then It is preferably polished with pumice stone, preferably further polished to the highest gloss with cerium oxide. The hologram in conjunction with the glass product of the present invention creates a completely new aesthetic impression, since the hologram itself gives the appearance of a spatial perception, which is further enhanced by refraction of light through the glass product.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

A hologram 2 is placed on one surface of the glass article 1 and another glass surface 3 can be placed on the other side of the hologram, the hologram 2 being connected to the glass surfaces by a transparent adhesive. The product need not be limited by the shape of the present figure.

A hologram glass article such as a paperweight, a vase, a cup, a bowl and the like is produced by using a glass casting of the desired shape, wherein at least one planar surface of the glass cast is ground to a perfect plane by optical grinding, i.e. gradual grinding from abrasive grit paper of abrasive grain size from 60 to 1000, subsequently polished with pumice stone and further polished to the highest gloss with cerium oxide. Subsequently, the surface is degreased and a very thin transparent UV-cured adhesive is spread over it. A hologram treated in a degreasing bath is placed in the adhesive and the product is exposed to UV radiation. On the side of the hologram that faces away from the casting, an equally treated glass surface, optically ground, degreased, coated with an adhesive layer can also be applied, and only now the product is illuminated by UV radiation. Finally, the product is shaped by conventional grinding to the final shape.

PATENT CLAIMS Glass article, in particular a paperweight, a vase, a cup and the like, characterized in that the glass article (1) is provided with a hologram (2) on at least one planar surface. Glass article according to claim 1, characterized in that a layer (3) for covering the hologram is applied to the side of the hologram (2) facing away from the glass product (1). Glass article according to claim 2, characterized in that the layer (3) is of clear glass or colored glass. Glass article according to claim 1, characterized in that the hologram (2) is connected to the article (1) by means of a transparent adhesive. Glass article according to claim 2, characterized in that the side of the hologram facing away from the glass article (1) is bonded to the layer (3) by an adhesive. 6. A method for manufacturing a glass article according to claim 1, wherein any glass shape is cast with at least one planar surface, then the surface is ground to perfect planes by successively grinding several times with an abrasive having a grain size of from 60-80 to 800 -1000, then this area is polished with pumice stone, then the area is degreased and a very thin transparent UV-cured adhesive is spread on the treated surface. Method according to claim 6, characterized in that an equally arranged glass surface is applied to the glass side facing away from the glass slide, which is optically grinded, degreased and coated with an adhesive, and then the product is exposed to UV radiation.
