Description

Backlight module, liquid crystal display device and method for manufacturing lamp fixing member

Technical field

The present invention relates to a backlight module, a liquid crystal display (LCD) device having the backlight module, and a method of manufacturing a lamp fixing member. More particularly, the present invention relates to a backlight module having a lamp fixing member, an LCD device having the same, and a method of manufacturing the lamp fixing member, wherein the lamp fixing member prevents a diffusion plate from moving, to improve display quality.

Background technique

Generally, a liquid crystal display (LCD) device displays images using liquid crystals. The LCD device is a flat panel display device. For example, LCD devices have various advantages over other display devices, such as thin thickness, low driving voltage, and low power consumption, but are not limited to the above advantages. Accordingly, LCD devices have been widely used in various fields.

LCD devices are non-emissive display devices. Therefore, LCD devices require a backlight module to provide light to the LCD panel.

The backlight module includes at least one light emitting lamp. For example, the backlight module may employ a plurality of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) having a long cylindrical shape as lamps. According to the position of the at least one lamp, the backlight module is classified into an edge-type backlight module or a direct-type backlight module.

In the case of an edge type backlight module, one or two lamps are disposed adjacent to the side edge surface of the transparent light guide plate. The edge-lit backlight module uses one surface of the light guide plate to generate multiple reflections of light and emit light to the LCD panel. In the case of a direct type backlight module, a plurality of lamps are arranged under the LCD panel, a diffuser plate is arranged above the lamps, and a reflection plate is arranged under the lamps, so that the direct type backlight module diffuses and reflects light from the lamps respectively. emitted light. Therefore, edge-lit backlight modules are used in LCD devices with smaller screens, such as notebook computers, monitors, and the like. On the other hand, direct-lit backlight modules are used for high-brightness large-screen LCD devices.

In the case where the direct type backlight module is used in a large-screen LCD device, the length of the lamp and the size of the diffusion plate increase. Accordingly, the backlight module includes a lamp fixing member that fixes the lamp and supports the diffusion plate.

More specifically, the lamp fixing member includes a lamp fixing portion for fixing the lamp and a diffusion plate supporting portion for supporting the diffusion plate. However, when the diffusion plate is freely moved by the vibration of the LCD, the vibration causes friction between the diffusion plate and the diffusion plate support portion. The friction causes a rubbed area on the diffusion plate, thereby deteriorating the display quality of the LCD device.

It should also be understood that unless specifically defined herein, terms such as those defined in commonly used dictionaries should be interpreted to have meanings consistent with their meanings in the context of the relevant art, and not in idealized or overly formal meanings.

Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view illustrating a backlight module according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

400。Referring to FIG. 1 , the backlight module 100 includes a receiving container 200 , a plurality of lamps 300 , a diffusion plate 350 and a lamp fixing member 400 .

The receiving container 200 includes a bottom plate 210 and side walls 220 . The side walls 220 respectively extend from outer peripheral portions of the bottom plate 210 such that the bottom plate 210 and the side walls 220 together provide a receiving space. The side wall 220 may be integrally formed with the bottom plate 210 . The receiving container 200 may include metal having high strength and not being easily deformed.

The backlight module 100 may further include a first diffusion plate guide part 222 disposed on the side wall 220 of the receiving container 200 . For example, four first diffusion plate guide parts 222 may be disposed on the side wall 220 of the receiving container 200 . The first diffusion plate guide part 222 guides the diffusion plate 350 to fix the diffusion plate 350 at a predetermined position on the receiving container 200 . The first diffusion plate guide part 222 may be disposed on two corresponding side walls 220 of the receiving container 200 in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the lamp 300 . The first diffusion plate guide part 222 protrudes upward from the side wall 220 of the receiving container 200 to correctly guide the diffusion plate 350 to a predetermined position on the receiving container 200 . As shown in FIG. 1 , the first diffusion plate guide portion 222 protrudes upward from the upper surface of the horizontally disposed side wall 220 defining the receiving container 200 .

The lamps 300 are disposed substantially parallel to each other on the bottom plate 210 of the receiving container 200 . The lamp 300 generates light in response to a driving signal provided from an external device (not shown). A plurality of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) having a long cylindrical shape may be used as the lamp 300 . Alternatively, a plurality of external electrode fluorescent lamps (EEFLs) each having an external electrode formed at an end of the EEFL may be used as the lamp 300 . In addition, each of the lamps 300 has a curved shape, such as a U shape. Both ends of the lamp 300 are fixed in the lamp socket 310 , and the lamp socket 310 is disposed on the receiving container 200 .

The diffusion plate 350 is disposed above the lamp 300 . The diffusion plate 350 diffuses light provided from the lamps 300 to improve uniformity of brightness. The diffusion plate 350 may have a plate shape. In addition, the diffusion plate 350 is spaced apart from the lamps 300 by a predetermined distance.

The diffusion plate 350 is formed of an optically transparent material. The diffusion plate 350 may also be formed of a light diffusion material to diffuse light. For example, the diffusion plate 350 may be formed of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), which is an optically transparent material.

The backlight module 100 may further include at least one optical sheet 360 disposed on the diffusion plate 350 . The optical sheet 360 changes a path of light diffused by the diffusion plate 350 to improve optical characteristics. The optical sheet 360 may include a prism sheet to improve brightness seen from the front by converging light that has been diffused by the diffusion plate 350 in a forward direction. In addition, the optical sheet 360 may include a diffusion sheet to further diffuse light diffused by the diffusion plate 350 . As mentioned above, according to the required or desired optical characteristics, the backlight module can also include various functional optical sheets.

The lamp fixing member 400 is installed on the base plate 210 for fixing the lamp 300 . When the length of the lamp 300 increases, the lamp 300 may deform or sag. Accordingly, the lamp fixing member 400 stably supports the middle of the lamp 300 and may prevent deformation and sagging of the lamp 300 .

The number of lamp fixing members 400 may be determined by the number of lamps 300 . For example, each of the lamp fixing members 400 may fix four lamps 300, but is not limited thereto.

When the number of lamp fixing members 400 is greater than one, each lamp fixing member 400 may be arranged in a zigzag arrangement along a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the lamp 300 . When the lamp fixing members 400 are arranged in one direction, defects such as dark lines are formed corresponding to the lamp fixing members 400 may occur. Therefore, the lamp fixing member 400 can be arranged in a zigzag shape, so that dark line defects can be prevented.

Each of the lamps 300 is fixed by one lamp fixing member 400 . However, when the lamps 300 are too long, each of the lamps 300 may be fixed by more than one lamp fixing member 400 . Each of the lamp fixing members may be spaced apart from each other by a predetermined distance along the longitudinal direction of the lamp 300 . In this case, the lamp fixing member 400 may be disposed in a zigzag arrangement along a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the lamp 300 .

The backlight module 100 may further include a side mold 370 disposed at an end of the lamp 300 . The side mold 370 is combined with the receiving container 200 to cover the end of the lamp 300 . The side mold 370 improves luminance uniformity by covering the end of the lamp 300 , where the luminance of the end of the lamp 300 is relatively lower than that of other portions of the lamp 300 . The side mold 370 supports an edge portion of the diffusion plate 350 disposed on the side mold 370 and guides the diffusion plate 350 in place. The side mold 370 may include a second diffusion plate guide part 372 that guides the diffusion plate 350 in place. The second diffusion plate guide part 372 protrudes by a predetermined height from the upper surface defining the side mold 370 .

200。The backlight module 100 may further include a middle mold (not shown) to fix the diffusion plate 350 and the optical sheet 360 to the receiving container 200 . The middle mold is combined with the upper portion of the receiving container 200 to fix the edge portions of the diffusion plate 350 and the optical sheet 360 to the receiving container 200 .

FIG. 2 is an enlarged partial plan view showing the diffusion plate 350 accommodated in the receiving container 200 in FIG. 1 .

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2 , the diffusion plate 350 is supported by the receiving container 200 and the side mold 370 . Specifically, the first side of the diffusion plate 350 substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the lamp 300 is supported by the side wall 220 of the container 200, and the second side of the diffusion plate 350 substantially perpendicular to the first side is supported by the side mold 370. . Thus, the accommodation position of the diffusion plate 350 is guided by the first diffusion plate guide portion 222 of the accommodation container 200 and the second diffusion plate guide portion 372 of the side mold 370 .

360。Heat and moisture may easily deform the diffusion plate 350 . Accordingly, the diffusion plate 350 is accommodated to space the diffusion plate 350 from the first diffusion plate guide portion 222 and the second diffusion plate guide portion 372 by a predetermined distance corresponding to the degree of deformation of the diffusion plate 350 . For example, the diffusion plate 350 may be separated from the first diffusion plate guide portion 222 and the second diffusion plate guide portion 372 by about 1.5 mm. The second diffusion plate guide part 372 may include a sheet fixing protrusion to fix the optical sheet 360 .

3 is a perspective view illustrating a lamp fixing member shown in FIG. 1 , and FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the lamp fixing member in FIG. 3 .

440。Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4 , the lamp fixing member 400 includes a body part 410 , a buffer 420 , a diffusion plate supporting part 430 and a lamp fixing part 440 .

The body part 410 is formed to extend in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plurality of lamps 300 . The main body portion 410 may be formed to be opened at a lower portion corresponding to the buffer 420 or not to be coplanar. Alternatively, the body portion 410 may be integrally formed to cover a lower portion of the buffer 420 .

The bumper 420 protrudes upward from the main body portion 410 so as not to be coplanar with the main body portion 410 . For example, the bumper 420 is formed in the middle of the main body part 410 . Optionally, a plurality of buffers 420 spaced apart a predetermined distance along the longitudinal direction of the main body portion 410 may be formed.

The shape of the buffer member 420 can be adjusted to improve the elasticity of the buffer member 420 . The buffer member 420 buffers force applied to the diffusion plate support part 430 formed by movement and sagging of the diffusion plate 350 when the diffusion plate 350 is accommodated in the receiving container 200 . As shown in FIG. 4 , a section of the buffer member 420 taken along the longitudinal direction of the main body portion 410 may substantially have a trapezoidal shape. In other words, the buffer member 420 includes an inclined side portion with respect to the main body portion 410 , and the inclined side portion is engaged with the main body portion 410 .

The diffusion plate support part 430 may protrude from the buffer 420 to support the diffusion plate 350 . The height of the diffusion plate supporting part 430 may be greater than that of the lamp fixing member 440 . The larger the diffusion plate 350 is, the lower the middle portion of the diffusion plate 350 sags. Therefore, the diffusion plate supporting part 430 can prevent the sagging of the diffusion plate 350 . In addition, the diffusion plate supporting part 430 maintains a distance between the diffusion plate 350 and the lamps 300 fixed by the lamp fixing member 440 . For example, as shown, the diffusion plate support part 430 may have a tapered shape. Therefore, when the movement of the diffusion plate 350 generates friction between the diffusion plate 350 and the diffusion plate support part 430, the elasticity of the buffer 420 may minimize the friction.

The lamp fixing member 430 is formed on the upper surface of the body part 410 and supports the lamp 300 . The lamp fixing member 440 protrudes upward from the main body part 410 . The lamp fixing member 440 may have an opening portion 442 such that the lamp 300 may be inserted into the opening portion 442 .

3.3mm。The width of the opening portion 442 is determined by the diameter of the lamp 300 . The larger the width of the opening portion 442 , the easier each of the lamps 300 can be inserted into the lamp fixing portion 440 . However, when the width of the opening is too large, each of the lamps 300 may be easily detached from the lamp fixing part 440 . Therefore, it is desirable that the width of the opening portion 442 may have a range from 80% of the diameter of the lamp 300 to 90% of the diameter of the lamp 300 . For example, when the diameter of the lamp 300 is about 4 mm, the width of the opening part 442 may be about 3.3 mm.

440。A plurality of lamp fixing parts 440 may be formed on both sides of the bumper 420, respectively. For example, the lamp fixing member 400 includes four lamp fixing parts 440 (two on one side of the bumper 420). Alternatively, the lamp fixing member 400 may include various numbers of lamp fixing parts 440 .

The lamp fixing member 400 may further include at least one combining part 450 to be combined with the receiving container 200 . The coupling part 450 may be formed on the bottom surface of the body part 410 . The location and number of bonding portions 450 may vary.

210。The backlight module 100 may further include a reflection plate 380 disposed between the receiving container 200 and the lamp 300 . The reflection plate 380 reflects the light provided from the lamp 300 to the diffusion plate 350, so that the reflection plate 380 may improve light efficiency. For example, the reflection plate 380 is fixed to the bottom plate 210 of the receiving container 200 .

210。The reflective plate 380 and the bottom plate 210 of the receiving container 200 have openings corresponding to the coupling portion 450 of the lamp fixing member 400 . The coupling part 450 penetrates the reflection plate 380 and openings of the bottom plate 210 and hooks the bottom plate 210 .

FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view illustrating a lamp fixing member according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 5 , the lamp fixing member 500 includes a body part 510 , a buffer 520 , a diffusion plate supporting part 530 , a lamp fixing part 540 and a coupling part 550 . Except for the bumper 520, the lamp fixing member 500 is substantially the same as that in FIG. 4, and any further description of the rest of the structure will be omitted.

The bumper 520 protrudes upward from the main body part 510 . For example, a bumper 520 is formed in the middle of the main body part 510 . Alternatively, a plurality of bumpers 520 may be formed spaced a predetermined distance apart along the longitudinal direction of the body part 510 .

The buffer 520 may have an elastic shape to buffer force applied to the diffusion plate support part 530 formed by movement and sagging of the diffusion plate 350 . For example, a section of the cushioning member taken along the longitudinal direction of the main body portion may substantially have an arched shape. In addition, the diffusion plate supporting part 530 may have a hollow structure to improve elasticity. For example, the diffuser plate support portion 530 may define a cavity, or be cut to improve elasticity.

FIG. 6 is an exploded perspective view illustrating an LCD device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

800。Referring to FIG. 6, an LCD device 700 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a backlight module 100 supplying light and a display unit 800 displaying an image.

The backlight module 100 of this exemplary embodiment is substantially the same as the backlight module in FIGS. 1 to 5 . Therefore, the same reference numerals will be used to designate the same or similar parts as those described in the above embodiments, and any further description will be omitted.

810。The display unit 800 includes a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel 810 and a driving circuit part 820 . The LCD panel 810 displays images using the light provided by the backlight module 100 . The driving circuit part 820 drives the LCD panel 810 .

The LCD panel 810 includes a first substrate 812 , a second substrate 814 and a liquid crystal layer 816 . The second substrate 814 is combined with the first substrate 812 such that the second substrate 814 faces the first substrate 812 . The liquid crystal layer 816 is interposed between the first substrate 812 and the second substrate 814 .

The first substrate 812 includes a plurality of thin film transistors (not shown) arranged in a matrix shape. For example, first substrate 812 may include glass. The gate electrode of each of the TFTs is electrically connected to one of gate lines (not shown) on the glass substrate 812 . The source electrode of each of the TFTs is electrically connected to one of the data lines (not shown) on the glass substrate 812 . The drain electrode of each of the TFTs is electrically connected to a pixel electrode (not shown), which includes an optically transparent and conductive material.

The second substrate 814 may be a color filter substrate including red, green and blue color filters to display colors. For example, the second substrate 814 may include glass. The second substrate 814 may also include a common electrode including an optically transparent and conductive material.

When a gate signal and a data signal are respectively applied to the gate electrode and the source electrode of each of the TFTs, the TFTs are turned on, generating an electric field between the pixel electrode and the common electrode. In response to an electric field applied to the liquid crystal layer 816, the alignment of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 816 changes, and thus the light transmittance of the liquid crystal layer 816 changes to display an image.

7 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a mold frame for manufacturing a lamp fixing member according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

600。Referring to FIGS. 4 and 7 , the lamp fixing member 400 includes a diffusion plate support part 430 , and a mold frame 600 is formed by combining a first core 610 , a second core 620 and a third core 630 .

The first core 610 may be disposed on an upper portion of the mold frame 600 . The second core 620 may be disposed at the bottom of the mold frame 600 . The third core 630 may be arranged in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first core 610 and the second core 620 .

The first core 610 may have a first groove 612 corresponding to the first half of the body part 410 of the lamp fixing member 400 , the buffer 420 , the diffusion plate support part 430 , the lamp fixing part 440 and the coupling part 450 . The second core 620 may have a second groove 622 corresponding to the second half of the main body part 410 of the lamp fixing member 400 , the buffer 420 , the diffusion plate support part 430 , the lamp fixing part 440 and the coupling part 450 . The second half of the main body portion 410 is opposite to the first half of the main body portion 410 . The third core 630 may have a third groove 632 corresponding to an end of the diffusion plate supporting part 430 . A groove corresponding to the lamp fixing member 400 may be formed inside the mold frame 600 by combining the first core 610 , the second core 620 and the third core 630 .

When the formwork is formed of only two cores, a separation line is formed along the centerline of the arched diffusion plate supporting part 430 . Accordingly, microburrs may be formed at an end portion of the diffusion plate supporting part 430 in contact with the diffusion plate 350 . Therefore, the burrs may cause the diffusion plate 350 to crack, which may cause defects of the LCD device. However, in FIG. 7, the lamp fixing member 400 is manufactured using a first core 610, a second core 620, and a third core having a third groove 632 corresponding to an end portion of the diffuser plate support portion 430, so that There are no microburrs at the end portion of the diffusion plate supporting portion 430 in contact with the diffusion plate 350 .

To manufacture the lamp fixing member 400 , the mold frame 600 is formed by combining the first core 610 , the second core 620 and the third core 630 . Subsequently, molten resin is added to the inside of the mold frame 600 . For example, molten resin is introduced into the inside of the mold frame 600 through an insertion portion (not shown) formed at one side of the mold frame 600 .

400。Subsequently, the molten resin inside the mold frame 600 is cooled. Subsequently, the lamp fixing member 400 is completed by separating the first core 610 , the second core 620 and the third core 630 .

According to the present invention, the buffer member having elasticity is formed in the area where the diffuser plate support portion of the lamp fixing member is formed. Therefore, the friction between the diffusion plate and the diffusion plate supporting portion can be minimized, so that cracking of the diffusion plate can be prevented, and display quality can be improved.

In addition, the mold frame for manufacturing the lamp fixing member may include a core having a groove corresponding to the end of the diffuser plate support portion, thereby preventing microburrs that may be formed at the end portion of the diffuser plate support portion, and Prevents cracking of the diffuser plate.

The invention has been described with reference to the exemplary embodiments. It is evident, however, that many optional modifications and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the foregoing description. Accordingly, the present invention embraces all such optional modifications and changes that fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
