Abstract

A pallet display ( 2) comprising a four way pallet (4) on which the merchandise (10) is supported in two or more layers. Two or more pallet displays (6) can be stacked for storage and transport. The permanent base (20) may comprise a metal frame which can be covered by a base wrap (16) containing graphics relating to the merchandise on display. The base wrap (20) can be folded and is stored and transported with the pallet display (6). technical field

The present invention relates to an assembly for displaying merchandise in a retail store. In particular, the present invention relates to a merchandise display unit intended for use in large retail malls commonly known as club stores.

Background technique

There are three major warehouse chain membership stores in the United States. Namely Sam`s, Cosco`s and BJ`s. In these stores, there is often a display of merchandise in an open area at the end of the aisle in an area such as the pharmacy section. Additionally, similar merchandise displays are used in other locations such as convention centers, airports and department stores. For such a display, customers who require merchandise settings are easily accessible. Ideally, items are placed between the waist and eye level of most shoppers. The standard minimum height is 28 inches above the ground.

To meet these requirements, manufacturers of pharmaceutical products sold in small containers pack the containers in layers and then place them on a false bottom, usually made of corrugated board. When the product in the store needs to be replenished, the entire new unit, including the false bottom, is taken from the storage location and shipped to the store. The false bottom of the previous display unit was removed and discarded. The updating and supplementing process in the store is carried out manually in some stores, which is a labor-intensive process.

There is a great deal of waste and unnecessary cost in terms of materials, labor and transportation due to the need to store and transport merchandise and live bottoms.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved mechanism for displaying a variety of packages on free standing displays in warehouse club stores and elsewhere.

Contents of the invention

In accordance with the present invention, each store selling merchandise on a free standing display unit can be provided with a permanent base supporting a pallet display comprising a 4-way pallet on which two or more layers of merchandise are supported. In this way, the manufacturer or seller only needs to stock the pallet display. Two or more pallet displays can be stacked for storage and transport. The permanent base may comprise a metal frame which may be covered by a base wrapper which includes an image relating to the merchandise on display. The base package is collapsible for storage and shipping with the pallet display. Additionally, the base package may include an opening for a forklift arm so that the pallet display may be moved after application of the base package.

Detailed ways

Figure 1 shows a pallet display according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The pallet display may include a 4-way pallet 4 , product packaging 6 , and a folded base package (not shown in FIG. 1 ) held in a folder or container 8 . The entire pallet display can be covered with stretchable plastic wrap (not shown) for storage and transport. Additionally, the corner posts can be attached to the display to reinforce the pallet display during shipping and storage.

It is envisioned that a product display according to the present invention may be used in many settings to provide pharmaceuticals to the public. In the example shown, the products shown include bottles of advil ^™ pain reliever packaged in boxes 10 . The boxes 10 are stacked one on top of the other on conventional pallets 12, in this example forming three tiers each three boxes high. In some cases, the bottles themselves may be held in the tray 12 .

The bracket 12 can be made of corrugated sheet, which can be used as a billboard for the product, and can also be used to package the product in an attractive structure. For example, bracket 12 may ensure that box 10 occupies the entire area of the display.

The pallet display unit shown in Figure 1 is adapted to be placed on a permanent metal base 20 which can be secured to the place where merchandise is sold. Pallet displays can be placed anywhere that requires a self-standing display unit, such as club stores, conference centers, airports, and vending centers and department stores. The base 20 may comprise four corner posts 21 of L-shaped cross-section supporting three horizontal tubular members 23 of rectangular cross-section forming a bottom surface on which a series of horizontal beams 22 are placed on which the pallets 4 are placed. The base 20 may include a series of additional reinforcements (not numbered) to increase strength and stability.

The pallet 4 may be made of wood and comprises a series of slats 24 on which the product packages 6 are fastened. Supporting plate 4 can be traditional, also can be so-called 4-way supporting plate or double-pass supporting plate. The 4-way pallet allows the forks of a traditional fork lift to engage the pallet from 4 sides. Two-way pallets only allow the forks of the fork lift to engage the pallet from 2 sides.

The basic package 16 can be made of strong paper material and glued together, and it can be placed on the display after it is assembled. Alternatively, the base package 16 may be a separate panel that is magnetically attached to the base frame 20, or attached by a mechanical connector, such as a Velcro connector. The base package typically forms a kit of materials that slides over the base.

The pallet display is approximately 32 inches high when shipped and shipped, so the pallet display can be stacked three tiers when stored and shipped. In contrast, in existing systems, the base is stored with the product packaging, and the display is about 60 inches high, so typically only a single layer is stacked for shipping and storage. The present invention therefore requires less storage space and lower shipping costs for a given product package.

In addition, the pallet display is slightly larger than the pallet stacked on top of it. This allows different brackets with different dimensions to be accommodated on the same pallet display. Thus, the pallet display can be used as a semi-permanent display when placed in place.

In use, after the base 20 is properly positioned in the store, the forklift transports the selected pallet display to the base, positioning it at the desired location on the top surface of the base. The base package 16 is then removed from the container 8 on top of the pallet display. Open it and place it on the product package 6 , the pallet 4 and the base 20 , as shown in FIG. 3 .

It is obvious that the specific dimensions of the individual components shown in the drawings form no part of the invention. In a particular embodiment, the display piece is rectangular, measuring 40 inches by 48 inches. The bottom surface formed by the horizontal bar 22 is 27 inches above the surface on which the frame 20 rests. The thickness of the pallet 4 is 5 inches and the height of the product package 6 is 26 inches, which means that the top of the package 6 is 58 inches above the support surface.

While the essential novel features of this invention have been shown, introduced and highlighted by means of preferred embodiments. It should be understood that omissions, substitutions and changes may be made in the form and details of the shown mechanism and its operation, all without departing from the scope of the invention, by those skilled in the art. For example, all combinations of these components and/or steps having substantially the same function, in a substantially similar manner, to achieve the same result, are within the scope of the present invention. Modifications of components from one described embodiment to another are also fully contemplated. It should also be understood that the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, which are conceptual representations only, and the invention is therefore limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
