发明背景
本发明涉及使用电子节目指南(EPGs)帮助媒体观众管理大量的节目选择的系统。特别的是,本发明涉及为电视观众制造个人频道,这将使节目选择更方便。

一个被动装置可以通过提取一个个人观看的习惯的模式来建立喜好数据库。可以使用该模式对将来观众想看的节目做出预测。这种提取方法可以使用简单的算法,比如通过对相同项目检测重复请求确定明显的爱好。也可以使用有很多输入端口(自由度)的更复杂的决策树技术。总的来说,上述模式检测观众交互行为的模式(比如用于做出选择的与观众界面(UI)的交互)。
一种用于从观众观看模式提取有用信息相当稳固的技术,将产生特征值计数表。它的例子是“一天的时间”,相应的值可能是“早晨”。做出选择时,表示选择的特征值的计数增加。通常,一个给定的选择有许多特征值。
一组否定的选择,也可以通过从可以识别的选择中选择一个节目的子集(同时可选)产生。它们各自的特征值计数被减小(或者说没有观看的节目的计数增加)。这个数据送到贝叶斯(Bayesian)预测器,它使用该计数值作为加权。特征值表明选择和预测的可能性。这种模型的装置在2000年2月4日申请的,美国专利申请序列号为No.09/498,271的“贝叶斯电视节目推荐装置”中描述,它的全文在这里被引用作为参考,就好象是这里提出的。在相同类型的系统中,一个以上述规则为基础的推荐装置,它根据对观众行为的观测建立了简档,这同样在1999年1月14日公开的PCT申请WO99/01984,标题为“智能电子节目指南”中描述。
一个欧洲专利申请(EP0854645A2)描述了一个系统,该系统可以使观众输入类型喜好,比如首选的节目类型(比如连续剧,戏剧系列片,老电影等等)。这种应用也描述了喜好的模板,在该模板中,可以选择喜好的目录。例如,一个适合于10-12岁的儿童,另一个适合于十几岁的女孩,另一个适合于飞机业余爱好者,等等。
第三种类型的系统允许观众以某种形式给节目划分等级。现在,TIVO允许观众为节目划分等级,比如三个赞成或者否定。
一个PCT申请号为WO97/4924,题目为“使用电视时间表的系统和方法”,是第三种类型系统的例子。它描述了一项技术,观众可以通过普通的格子形式显示的电子节目指南浏览,并选择不同的节目。在每一个点,观众可以执行上面描述的许多任务中的任何一个,包括选择一个节目记录或观看,排定观看某个节目的提示,和/或选择一个节目作为最喜欢的。指定一个节目作为最喜欢的大概是为了执行一个固定的规则,比如“总是显示观看这个节目的选项”,或者执行重复提示。
本发明提出一种系统,它呈现给能够建立个人频道的电视观众一个交互界面。上述系统具有消除对想看的节目的电视指南和不得不对盒式磁带录象机(VCR)编程以记录特定的节目的需要。个人频道包括所有为该观众选择的优先的节目。个人频道内容可以通过多种方式产生,将在下文中描述。

相关技术
在美国专利号No.5,534,911中,描述了一个系统,该系统为电视观众建立一个虚拟的个人频道。观众通过回答特定的问题产生一个个人频道,比如提供一个特定电视节目的等级,或者提供特别喜欢的节目类型。产生的个人频道包括一组节目它描述了特定节目将被获得的频道和时间。一个计算机转换视频接收机到爱好的节目最可能被传输的物理频道。每天或每周的节目被记录,也可以作为当前节目被显示。

Claims (8)
