A special feature of the flip-top box of the present invention is that the cross-sectional shape of the flip-top box adapts to the shape of the package contents, i.e. the shape of the cigarette group 11, through the corresponding structures of the side walls 18, 19; 23, 24. For this purpose, the side walls of the box part 13 and of the cover 14 are both substantially roof-shaped with at least two wall edges 29, 30 forming an (obtuse) angle with each other. The embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 4 is designed with sharp edges in shape. In the clamshell box, the outer side leg 31 and likewise the outer lid side leg 33 extend across the entire width of the package and/or side walls 18 , 19 ; 23 , 24 . The blank (FIG. 3) is formed in a specific way corresponding to the outer shape of the flip-top box. Conventionally, box front wall 16, bottom wall 20, box back wall 17, lid back wall 22, end wall 25 and lid front wall 21 are positioned sequentially on one blank. The box mouth 26 adapts to the cross-sectional profile of the flip box. The geometry of the flip-top box allows groups 11 of cigarettes to be formed in a specific manner. As can be seen from Figures 14 to 17, the cigarettes 10 are arranged in three rows 43,44,45.
