PVC泡沫制品
本发明涉及用物理发泡剂制得的聚氯乙烯(“PVC”)泡沫制品,更具体地说,涉及用一种或多种氢氟化碳(“HFC”)气体(如HFC-134a(1,1,1,2-四氟乙烷))吹胀的PVC泡沫制品。
已有一些文献(如S.K.Dey等人在1996年3月的Vinyl & Additive Technology杂志Vol.2,No.1中的“Inert-Gas Extrusion of Rigid PVC Foam”)提到使用惰性气体发泡剂(如CO2)和化学发泡剂(如偶氮二酰胺)制备PVC泡沫制品。化学发泡剂存在诸如会在泡沫制品中残留以及加工适应性差等缺点,这是因为化学发泡剂是水敏性的,通常必须与PVC预混合。惰性发泡剂(如CO2)会限制改变泡沫制品密度的能力,通常会导致产生高密度泡沫制品。理想的是发泡剂具有较好的加工适应性和使密度达到一定范围的能力。
本发明提供了一种用物理发泡剂吹胀的PVC泡沫制品,所述发泡剂含有HFC气体。
现已发现使用HFC物理发泡剂可挤塑PVC泡沫制品,所述泡沫制品具有各种密度值,而且可避免留下残留物。低密度泡沫制品(密度低于0.2克/厘米3)可用作绝缘材料,而中密度的泡沫制品(密度约为0.5克/厘米3)可用作栅栏、型材、板材和管材。由于HFC气体发泡剂可独立于PVC加入挤出机中,因此,如下所示,可通过简单地调节发泡剂相对于挤出机中PVC的流速来控制密度。与氯化发泡剂不同,HFC气体还具有环保方面的优点,即具有零潜在臭氧损耗(zero ozone depletionpotential)(“ODP”)。
气体HFC发泡剂的实例有134a、152a(1,1-二氟乙烷)、32(二氟甲烷)、143a(1,1,1-三氟乙烷)、134(1,1,2,2-四氟乙烷)、245fa(1,1,1,3,3-五氟乙烷)、125(五氟乙烷)及其混合物。较好的发泡剂包括134a和152a。还可含有化学发泡剂(如偶氮二酰胺)、惰性气体(如二氧化碳和氮气)、水以及有机化合物,例如醚(如二甲醚)、醇和酮等作为发泡助剂,虽然这些发泡助剂的用量通常是很少的。
在实际操作中,所述物理发泡剂是注入含有熔融态PVC组合物的挤出机中的。可以使用普通的挤出机,如单螺杆挤出机或双螺杆挤出机。
典型的泡沫制品组合物含有PVC树脂;热稳定剂(如可从Elf Atochem购得的Thermolite有机锡稳定剂、可从Witco购得的Mark 1925锡稳定剂或者铅稳定剂,如三元硫酸铅、二元硬脂酸铅或二元磷酸铅);抗冲改性剂(如可从Elf Atochem购得的Metablen C223或Metablen E900核-壳型抗冲改性剂,或非核-壳型改性剂,如氯化聚乙烯);加工助剂(如高分子量和/或低分子量的丙烯酸聚合物);润滑剂(如石蜡、聚乙烯蜡和/或硬脂酸钙);填料(如碳酸钙或硅石);以及颜料(如二氧化钛)。这些组成是现有技术中已知的。PVC树脂通常具有50至65左右的K值。“K值”是通用的分子量测定值。K值高于75通常认为是高的,而K值低于50通常认为是低的。
典型的加工温度为175-205℃。该温度通常在挤出机端部附近降低,但不低于约140℃。注入发泡剂所用的压力是可变的,取决于特定的挤出机的构型,与发泡剂的流速成正比。典型的注入压力约为100至1500psig。可以通过降低所述压力来提高泡沫制品的密度。
制备具有一定密度的PVC泡沫制品所需的发泡剂的量取决于多种因素,如发泡剂的分子量以及聚合物基体的堆积密度。例如,吹胀密度为2.0pcf(每立方英尺的磅数)的PVC泡沫制品所需的HFC-134a的量为树脂总重量的14%(重量),而对于密度为20pcf的PVC泡沫制品需要约2%。使用加工助剂还能帮助降低泡沫制品的密度。
在挤出机的端部可以使用各种模头,以根据需要产生PVC管材、片材、型材、棒材等等。
在下面的非限制性实施例中对本发明作更详细的说明。使用普通的PVC泡沫制品组合物,其中以phr(“phr”表示每100份树脂中的重量份数)计含有:

将原料以每小时17.5磅的速率加入在175至200℃的温度以75rpm(每分钟转数)运行的双螺杆挤出机中。通过在100至1500psig的范围内调节注入压力,以不同的速率将发泡剂(134a)加入熔融的PVC组合物中。测定挤出物的密度。结果表明将加入速率从0提高到0.05摩尔/分钟,可使密度从约1.4克/厘米3(在每分钟0摩尔时)降低至约0.4克/厘米3(在每分钟0.05摩尔时)。对于该特定装置构型,使用280-320psig的注入压力得到最低密度的泡沫制品。使用较低分子量的PVC树脂(K值约为60)及较高含量(7.4Phr)的加工助剂,可得到具有较低密度(约为0.3克/厘米3)的泡沫制品。

Claims (5)

1.用发泡剂吹胀的聚氯乙烯泡沫制品,所述发泡剂含有氢氟化碳气体。
2.如权利要求1所述的泡沫制品,其特征在于所述氢氟化碳选自134a、152a、143a、134、245fa、32、125及其混合物。
3.如权利要求1所述的泡沫制品,其特征在于所述氢氟化碳是134a。
4.如权利要求1所述的泡沫制品,其特征在于所述氢氟化碳是152a。
5.如权利要求1所述的泡沫制品,其特征在于所述发泡剂还含有化学发泡剂、惰性气体、水或有机化合物作为发泡助剂。
