具体实施方式
现在将参照附图对本发明的优选实施例进行详细描述，从而使本领域的技术人员可以实施本发明。本发明可以采用各种形式来实施，并且它不限于下述实施例。
下面将参照附图对根据本发明实施例的平板显示器进行详细描述。
首先，参考图1至3，将描述根据本发明第一实施例的平板显示器。
图1是根据本发明第一实施例的平板显示器的示意结构图，图2是根据本发明第一实施例的平板显示器中的像素的等效电路图，并且图3是根据本发明第一实施例的平板显示器的信号时序图。
如图1所示，根据本发明第一实施例的平板显示器包括显示面板100、数据驱动器200、扫描驱动器300以及显示周期控制器400。
在显示面板100中，用于传输所选信号的多路扫描线X1-Xm排列在垂直方向上，并且用于传输数据信号的多路数据线Y1-Yn排列在水平方向上。另外，在显示面板100中，用于根据通过多路扫描线X1-Xm和多路数据线Y1-Yn输入的信号显示画面的多个像素电路110以矩阵的形式排列。
作为这种像素电路110的一个例子，在本发明的第一实施例中将说明有机电致发光显示器的像素电路。如图2所示，像素电路110包括开关元件M1，响应施加于扫描线Xi的信号以传输施加于数据线Yj的数据电压。另外，像素电路110包括连接在开关元件M1的输出端与外部电压Vdd之间的存储电容器Cst，用于存储通过数据线Yj施加的数据电压与外部电压Vdd之间的电压差。另一个开关元件M2将与存储在电容器Cst中的电压差相对应的电流提供给有机电致发光装置OLED，当电流流经它时，从其发光。可以使用场效应晶体管如NMOS(n沟道金属氧化物半导体)或PMOS(p沟道金属氧化物半导体)作为开关元件M1和M2。在像素电路110中，分别使用NMOS和PMOS晶体管作为开关元件M1和M2。可选地，虽然在本发明的第一实施例中以如图2所示的像素电路为例进行说明，但是它不限于此，而是可以使用任何类型的像素电路。
数据驱动器200将表示画面信号的数据电压施加于数据线Y1-Yn，并且扫描驱动器300将用于选择显示面板100的像素110的选择信号顺序施加于各扫描线X1-Xm。
另外，数据驱动器200和扫描驱动器300均连接到显示面板的玻璃基板。可选地，数据驱动器200和/或扫描驱动器300可以直接安装在显示面板100的玻璃基板上，这称作“玻璃上的芯片(COG)”方法。另外，数据驱动器200和/或扫描驱动器300可以用由显示面板100的玻璃衬底上与像素电路的晶体管、数据线Y1-Yn、和扫描线X1-Xm相同的层组成的驱动电路代替。此外，可以在电连接到显示面板100的玻璃衬底的薄膜上的芯片中形成数据驱动器200和/或扫描驱动器300，这称作“薄膜上的芯片(COF)”方法。
下一步，将参照图3对显示周期控制器400进行详细描述。
显示周期控制器400接收用于设置要在平板显示器中表达的亮度电平的信号作为输入，根据亮度电平产生用于控制显示周期的显示周期控制信号(以下称作LPC信号)，并且将LPC信号提供给扫描驱动器300。可以使用环境亮度电平(ABL)作为这种用于设置亮度电平的信号。为了根据环境亮度产生ABL，根据本发明实施例的平板显示器还可以包括光电检测器(未示出)。另外，ABL可以是由用户输入的值。
在由显示周期控制器400产生的LPC信号的各帧中两次产生使能周期。另外，如图3所示，扫描驱动器300将LPC信号提供给扫描线X1-Xm，同时将它们依次偏移。LPC信号施加于开关元件M1的栅极，从而驱动开关元件M1。
由于开关元件M1在施加于扫描线Xi的LPC信号的第一使能间隔内导通，因此依赖于通过数据线Y1-Yn施加的数据电压的相应电压存储在像素电路110的存储电容器Cst中。然后，根据该存储电压从有机电致发光装置OLED发光，从而显示画面。通过这种方式，数据在寻址周期TA内通过所有扫描线X1-Xm存储在像素电路110中。下一步，当寻址周期TA结束时，用于表达黑电平的数据电压如图3所示施加于数据线Y1-Yn。对应于外部电压Vdd的电压可以作为用于表达黑电平的数据电压施加于图2所示的像素电路110。图3的TF表示帧周期。
通过这样做，开关元件M1在LPC信号的第二使能间隔内导通，从而使用来表达黑电平画面的与通过数据线Y1-Yn施加的黑电平数据电压相对应的电压存储在像素电路110的存储电容器Cst中。因此，在LPC信号的第一和第二使能周期之间的显示周期PL中表达所需画面，并且在第二使能周期与下一帧的第一使能周期之间的空白周期PB中表达黑电平画面。换句话说，显示周期PL可以为表达较亮的亮度而设长，并且空白周期PB可以为表达较暗的亮度而设长。因此，亮度可以通过显示周期PL与空白周期PB之比来确定。
下一步，将参照图4和5对用于在显示周期控制器400中产生LPC信号的方法进行详细描述。
图4是根据本发明第一实施例的显示周期控制器的方框图，并且图5是根据本发明第一实施例的显示周期控制器的信号时序图。
在本发明的第一实施例中，假定采用16个电平表达亮度，并且为了表达这16个亮度电平，将一帧内具有16个使能间隔的起动脉冲(以下称作SP)信号周期性地输入到显示周期控制器400。
如图4所示，根据本发明第一实施例的显示周期控制器400包括4位计数器410，用于顺序基于从外部输入的SP信号的使能间隔数，而产生从‘0000’(以下假定插入到引号‘’中的所有数均为二进制数)到‘1111’的计数值。假定计数器410的初始值为‘1111’，则在SP信号的第一使能间隔内产生计数值‘1111’，并且从第二使能间隔依次产生从‘0000’开始的其他计数值。另外，计数器410的输出提供给4位比较器420和430的一个输入。假定比较器420的另一个输入为‘1111’，则只有当计数器410的输出为‘1111’时，比较器420才输出高电平信号。
另外，如果比较器420的输出具有高电平，则采样/保持单元440对ABL信号进行采样，并且模拟/数字(A/D)转换器450将采样ABL信号转换为‘0000’到‘1111’之间的数字值。比较器430比较计数器410的输出与A/D转换器450的输出，并且如果它们彼此相同，则输出高电平信号。
比较器420和430的输出由或门460进行或操作。或操作结果和由延迟元件470延迟的SP信号由与门480进行与操作，并且输出与操作结果作为LPC信号。延迟元件470在比从输入SP信号到产生或门460的输出的延迟时间长的时间间隔内以半个周期时钟为单位延迟SP信号。
下面将以所需亮度为第二电平为例，参照图4和5详细描述根据本发明第一实施例的显示周期控制器400的操作。
首先，当施加SP信号的第一使能脉冲(高脉冲)时，计数器410输出‘1111’作为初始值。由于初始值‘1111’等于比较器420的另一个输入‘1111’，因此比较器420输出高电平信号，以施加于或门460的一个输入。因此，或门460的输出(在图4中用‘通过’表示)为高电平信号而与或门460的另一个输入无关。由于来自或门460的高电平信号与在延迟元件470中延迟的SP信号在与门480中进行与操作，因此在延迟SP信号为高电平的间隔内产生LPC信号的第一使能脉冲。另外，采样/保持单元440通过来自比较器420的高电平输出(在图4中用‘采样’表示)对向其输入的ABL信号进行采样。A/D转换器450将采样ABL信号转换为数字信号以输出所需亮度电平(在此说明的例子中为‘0001’)。
下一步，由于通过一帧内除SP信号的第一使能脉冲之外的剩余使能脉冲在计数器410中产生的计数值为‘0000’到‘1110’，因此比较器420的输出总是为低电平。因此，只有当比较器430的输出(‘空白’)为高电平时，或门460的输出(‘通过’)才为高电平。而且，只有在由延迟元件470延迟的SP信号为高电平的间隔内，才由与门480输出该输出(‘通过’)作为高电平信号，它是LPC信号的第二使能脉冲。
因此，由于在本例中亮度电平为‘0001’，因此计数器410的输出只有在SP信号的第三使能间隔内才为‘0001’，并且通过输出‘0001’产生LPC信号的第二使能脉冲。
如上所述，像素电路110的开关元件M1由LPC信号的第一使能脉冲导通，从而存储所要显示的数据电压并且可以通过该存储的数据电压表达具有所需灰度电平的画面。另外，当开关元件M1通过LPC信号的第二使能脉冲导通时，存储黑电平的数据电压，并且表达黑电平的数据，直到施加下一帧的LPC信号的第一使能脉冲为止。
换句话说，在本发明的第一实施例中，所需亮度可以通过控制表达具有所需灰度电平的画面的显示周期PL和表达具有黑电平的画面的空白周期PB来表达。当要表达高亮度(在本发明的第一实施例中为高电平亮度)时，显示周期PL通过输入高电平亮度值而变长，当要表达低亮度(在本发明的第一实施例中为低电平亮度)时，显示周期PL通过输入低电平亮度值而变短。
如上所述，根据本发明的第一实施例，可以通过仅控制显示具有所需灰度电平的画面的间隔而不改变数据电压电平来表达各种亮度电平。
虽然在本发明的第一实施例中以图4所示的显示周期控制器为例，但是可以使用任何显示周期控制器，只要可以根据亮度电平控制显示周期PL与空白周期PB即可。另外，虽然在本发明的第一实施例中以16个亮度电平为例，但是可以采用不同数目的亮度电平。例如，在20个亮度电平的情况下，一帧内的SP信号的使能间隔数为20，图4所示的计数器产生从0(‘00000’)到19(‘10011’)的计数值，并且使用5位比较器作为比较器。
虽然在本发明的第一实施例中如图5所示SP信号的使能间隔之间的时间间隔均相等，但是也可以采用不同的时间间隔。
另外，虽然在本发明的第一实施例中以有机电致发光显示器的像素电路为例作为像素电路110，但是也可以采用不同平板显示器如液晶显示器的像素电路，只要它们具有用于存储施加于像素电路的数据电压的部件即可。
下面将参照图6和7详细描述应用于液晶装置的另一个实施例。
图6是根据本发明第二实施例的平板显示器中的像素电路的等效电路图，并且图7是根据本发明第二实施例的平板显示器的显示周期控制器的方框图。
如图6所示，像素电路包括开关元件M1，响应施加于扫描线Xi的信号以传送施加于数据线Yj的数据电压。另外，像素电路包括存储电容器Cst，它连接到开关元件M1的输出端，用于存储通过数据线施加的数据电压。另外，连接在开关元件M1的输出端与公共电压Com1之间的是液晶单元LC，它由存储在存储电容器Cst中的数据电压和公共电压Com1驱动从而表达画面。可选地，虽然在本发明的第二实施例中以如图6所示的像素电路为例进行说明，但是它不限于此，并且可以使用任何类型的像素电路。
在第二实施例中，以与第一实施例相同的方式，要表达所需灰度电平的数据电压在寻址周期TA内被施加于像素电路的存储电容器Cst，并且当寻址周期TA完成时，将表达黑电平的数据电压施加于数据线Y1-Ym。如果使用图6所示的像素电路的液晶显示器为标准黑面板，则施加对应于公共电压Com1的电压作为数据电压来表达黑电平。如果该液晶显示器是标准白面板，则逐帧交替施加给出跨越液晶两端的最大电压差的正负数据电压。
另外，由于在液晶显示器中共同对数据线逐帧交替施加正负电压，因此正负电压所施加的两帧的显示周期PL必须彼此相等。为此，使用如图7所示的显示周期控制器。除了5位计数器410和与门490之外，该显示周期控制器与图4所示相同。
具体地说，图7所示的显示周期控制器的5位计数器410输出添加有逐帧交替为‘1’和‘0’的最高有效位(MSB)的4位计数值。换句话说，计数器410在奇数帧中依次输出‘11111’、‘10000’、‘10001’、‘10010’、...、‘111110’，并且在偶数帧中依次输出‘01111’、‘00000’、‘00001’、‘00010’、...、‘01110’。
此时，比较器420和430仅将计数器410的输出的低4位与其他输入进行比较。然后，比较器420的输出和计数器410的MSB由与门490进行操作，并且采样/保持单元440仅当操作结果表示高电平时才执行采样。因此，只有在计数器410的输出中MSB为‘1’的帧中，才对ABL信号进行采样，并且象在下一帧中一样施加从该采样获得的结果。因此，两帧的显示周期PL相等。因为其他操作与图4所示的显示周期控制器相同，所以将省略它们的详细描述。
虽然在第一实施例中是在一个帧间隔控制亮度电平，并且在第二实施例中是在两个帧间隔控制亮度电平，但是可选地，可以在多个帧间隔对它进行控制。例如，如果在8个帧间隔控制亮度电平，则显示周期控制器的计数器可以为7位计数器，对于各帧，高3位分别设为‘111’、‘110’、‘101’、...、‘000’，并且采样/保持单元440只有当高3位为‘111’时才执行采样。
另外，虽然在第一和第二实施例中以基于数据电压的画面显示为例，但是本发明也可以应用于基于电流的画面显示。
下面将参照图8和9详细描述在电流模式下编程的平板显示器。
图8和9是根据本发明第三和第四实施例的平板显示器中的像素的等效电路图。
由于在前面实施例中所示的显示周期控制器也可以应用于第三和第四实施例的平板显示器，因此下面将只描述像素电路的操作。
如图8所示，在第三实施例的像素电路中，当开关元件M1和M4在通过扫描线Xi施加的LPC信号的使能间隔内导通时，开关元件M3充当二极0管。然后，在存储电容器Cst中对用于显示画面的电压进行充电，直到流经开关元件M3的电流等于流经数据线Yj的电流为止。
如图9所示，在第四实施例的像素电路中，当在通过扫描线Xi施加的LPC信号的使能间隔内开关元件M1和M3导通且开关元件M4关断时，开关元件M2充当二极管。然后，如前所述，在存储电容器Cst中对用于显示画面的电压进行充电，直到流经开关元件M2的电流等于流经数据线Yj的电流为止。
为了在第三和第四实施例的像素电路的空白周期PB内显示黑电平，在寻址周期TA之后不将电流提供给数据线Yj。因而，数据线Yj处于悬空状态，因此在存储电容器Cst中对与黑电平相对应的电压进行充电。因此，像素电路在LPC信号的第二使能间隔内显示黑电平画面。
虽然在一帧中是在显示实际画面之后显示黑电平画面，但是相反，也可以在显示黑电平画面之后显示实际画面。换句话说，在LPC信号的第一使能间隔内将对应于黑电平的电压存储在存储电容器中，并且在LPC信号的第二使能间隔内将对应于实际画面的电压存储在存储电容器中。
本发明可以作为计算机可读介质中的计算机可执行指令来实现。计算机可读介质包括其中存储或包含计算机可读数据的所有可能类型的介质，或者它可以包含可由计算机或处理单元读取的任何类型的数据。计算机可读介质例如包括但不限于如下存储介质，如磁性存储介质(例如，ROM、软盘、硬盘等)、光读取介质(例如，CD-ROM(光盘-只读存储器)、DVD(数字多功能盘)、光盘的可重写形式等)、混合磁光盘、有机盘、系统存储器(只读存储器、随机存取存储器)、非易失性存储器如闪存或任何其他易失性或非易失性存储器、其他半导体介质、电子介质、电磁介质、红外以及其他通信介质如载波(例如，通过因特网或其他计算机的传输)。通信介质通常实施计算机可读指令、数据结构、程序模块或其他在调制信号中的数据如载波或包括任何信息传送介质的其他可传输机构中。如通信介质的计算机可读介质可以包括无线介质如射频、红外微波和有线介质如有线网络。另外，计算机可读介质可以存储和执行分布在通过网络连接的计算机中的计算机可读代码。计算机可读介质还包括位于处理系统中或者分布在可以位于处理系统本地或远端的多个处理系统中的协作或互连计算机可读介质。本发明可以包括在其上存储了包括多个字段的数据结构的计算机可读介质，其中，这些字段包含表示本发明技术的数据。
图10示出可以读取包含本发明计算机可执行指令的计算机可读介质的计算机例子，但不限于该计算机例子。计算机500包括控制计算机500的处理器502。处理器502使用系统存储器504和包括特定计算机可读记录介质的计算机可读存储装置506。系统总线将处理器502连接到网络接口508、调制解调器512或者提供与另一计算机或网络如因特网进行连接的其他接口。系统总线还可以包括输入和输出接口510，它提供与各种其他装置的连接。
如上所述，根据本发明，可以在不调节数据电压的情况下表达各种电平的亮度。换句话说，当一帧分为显示所需画面的显示周期和显示黑电平画面的空白周期时，亮度可以通过适当地控制显示周期和空白周期来表达。
尽管上面对本发明的优选实施例进行了详细描述，但本领域的技术人员应该清楚理解，在不脱离由所附权利要求限定的本发明的精神和范围的情况下，可以对在此所述的基本发明构思进行各种变化和/或变形。

Claims (16)

1.一种平板显示器，包括：
显示面板，包括相互交叉的多路扫描线和多路数据线以及多个像素，其中，所述像素用于响应施加于多路扫描线的信号，根据施加于多路数据线的信号显示画面；
显示周期控制器，接收表示亮度电平的第一信号，然后产生在一帧内包含第一和第二使能间隔的第二信号；以及
扫描驱动器，用于依次将所述第二信号传送到多路扫描线，
所述一帧分为所述第一和第二使能间隔之间的第一周期和所述第二使能间隔与帧结束点之间的第二周期，并且像素在所述第一和第二周期中的一个内显示具有所需灰度电平的画面，并且在所述第一和第二周期中的另一个内显示包含黑电平的画面。
2.如权利要求1所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器接收在一帧内具有多个使能间隔的第三信号，根据亮度电平选择两个使能间隔，并且产生所述第一和第二使能间隔与所述两个所选使能间隔具有对应关系的所述第二信号。
3.如权利要求2所述的平板显示器，其中，这些像素包括：
存储元件，用于存储与从所述数据线施加的信号相对应的信号，
在所述第二信号的所述第一使能间隔内，将用于显示包含所需灰度电平的画面的信号存储在所述存储元件中，并且直到所述第二使能间隔之前，可以显示具有所需灰度电平的画面，并且
在所述第二信号的所述第二使能间隔内，将用于显示包含黑电平的画面的信号存储在所述存储元件中，并且直到帧的结束点，可以显示具有黑电平的画面。
4.如权利要求2所述的平板显示器，其中，这些像素包括：
存储元件，用于存储与从数据线施加的信号相对应的信号，
在所述第二信号的所述第一使能间隔内，将用于显示包含黑电平的画面的信号存储在所述存储元件中，并且直到所述第二使能间隔之前，可以显示包含黑电平的画面，并且
在所述第二信号的所述第二使能间隔内，将用于显示包含所需灰度电平的画面的信号存储在所述存储元件中，并且直到帧的结束点，显示包含所需灰度电平的画面。
5.如权利要求1所述的平板显示器，其中，这些像素包括存储与从数据线施加的信号相对应的信号的存储元件，并且通过存储在所述存储元件中的信号在这些像素中显示画面。
6.如权利要求5所述的平板显示器，其中，在所述第二信号的所述第一和第二使能间隔内将与从数据线施加的信号相对应的信号存储在所述存储元件中。
7.如权利要求5所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器包括：
计数器，用于对从外部输入的包含多个使能间隔的第三信号中的使能间隔进行计数，以及
比较器，用于将所述计数器的计数值与所述第一信号的亮度电平数字值进行比较，
与所述第三信号的第一使能间隔相对应，确定所述第二信号的所述第一使能间隔和所述亮度电平数字值，然后，作为所述比较器的比较结果，当所述计数值对应于所述数字值时，产生所述第二信号的所述第二使能间隔。
8.如权利要求1所述的平板显示器，还包括光电检测器，根据环境亮度产生表示亮度电平的所述第一信号。
9.一种平板显示器，包括：
显示面板，包括由电容器形成的像素，其中，所述电容器用于响应施加于扫描线的扫描信号，临时存储与施加于数据线的信号相对应的电压，所述像素根据存储在所述电容器中的电压显示画面；以及
显示周期控制器，用于根据表示亮度电平的第一信号，控制第一周期和第二周期，其中，所述第一周期用于在一帧内将与所要显示画面的灰度电平相对应的第一电压存储在所述电容器中，而第二周期用于将表示黑电平的第二电压存储在所述电容器中。
10.如权利要求9所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器接收在一帧内产生多个使能间隔的第二信号，与所述第二信号的使能间隔中的第一使能间隔相对应，产生用于将所述第一电压存储在所述电容器中的第一扫描信号，并且与根据亮度电平从所述第二信号的使能间隔中所选的一个使能间隔相对应，产生用于将所述第二电压存储在所述电容器中的第二扫描信号。
11.如权利要求10所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器，包括：
计数器，接收所述第二信号，并且对使能间隔进行计数，以产生具有特定范围的数字值；
转换器，用于将所述第一信号的亮度电平转换为所述计数器的数字值范围内的值；以及
比较器，用于将转换后的亮度电平与所述计数器的数字值进行比较，以选择所述第二扫描信号。
12.如权利要求10所述的平板显示器，其中，所述计数器输出添加有其值根据帧号依次循环的至少一个高位的数字值，并且
只有当该高位对应于规定位时，所述转换器才转换该亮度电平。
13.如权利要求9所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器接收在一帧内产生多个使能间隔的第二信号，与所述第二信号的使能间隔中的第一使能间隔相对应，产生用于将所述第二电压存储在所述电容器中的第一扫描信号，并且与根据亮度电平从所述第二信号的使能间隔中所选的一个使能间隔相对应，产生用于将所述第一电压存储在所述电容器中的第二扫描信号。
14.如权利要求13所述的平板显示器，其中，所述显示周期控制器，包括：
计数器，接收所述第二信号，并且对使能间隔进行计数，以产生具有特定范围的数字值；
转换器，用于将所述第一信号的亮度电平转换为所述计数器的数字值范围内的值；以及
比较器，用于将转换后的亮度电平与所述计数器的数字值进行比较，以选择所述第二扫描信号。
15.如权利要求13所述的平板显示器，其中，所述计数器输出添加有其值根据帧号依次循环的至少一个高位的数字值，并且
只有当该高位对应于规定位时，所述转换器才转换亮度电平。
16.如权利要求9所述的平板显示器，还包括光电检测器，根据环境亮度产生表示亮度电平的所述第一信号。
