Abstract

A folding hanger apparatus particularly useful in luggage has two central portions (44, 45) which are hinged together to pivot between an open position and a closed position, and a hook portion having a hinged connection (62) to one of the central portions (44). The hook pivots to a position pressed against clothing (32) to prevent the clothing from sliding off the folded hanger which may be hung on a luggage trolley system (38). When the hanger is in the unfolded position, the hook portion can be pivoted to an extended position to be used to hang the hanger from a conventional closet rod. A pant loop (70) is provided to permit pants (33) and other garments to be suspended from the bottom of the hanger. The pant loop is movable from side to side to permit the loaded hanger to balance when in the unfolded position, and to permit the hanger to pivot to the folded position.

Description

Folding hanger device for luggage

The present invention relates to hangers for hanging clothes, and more particularly to folding hangers for luggage.

Hangers for hanging clothes have been used for hundreds of years. Though after going through a period of time, the composition material of clothes hanger has some changes (as changing from wooden to the iron wire of wrapping plastic skin), but the general clothes hanger major part that hangs aspect aspect form and use does not change these decades. As people travel more and more, especially on business, it has been practiced to provide suitcases in which hangers can be removed to facilitate loading of clothes from the cabinet into the suitcase. For example, US 2 001 156 to Ritter, Jr. discloses a clothes hanger that can be used in a suitcase or hung on a wardrobe rod. There is an increasing demand for luggage to be small enough to be portable and fit on modern aircraft, yet capable of holding formal office clothing without undue wrinkling. Compact, wrinkle-free luggage packing is obtained by hanging the clothes in the folded state in the luggage.

For example, the device of US 920 894 to Bonsall provides a clothes hanger for use in a folded state. Such devices are often unsatisfactory because their use is limited to suits and shirts, and the outer garments tend to slide off the folding hangers.

US 4186858 to Tatematsu discloses a flexible hanger that can be bent to hang suits in a folded state. But according to the disclosure of this document, this flexible hanger is not suitable for hanging trousers or overalls, and cannot be used for ordinary wardrobe rods.

This just requires to solve above problem, provides a kind of clothes hanger that clothes can be fixed in the suitcase including trousers intact in the folded state, also clothes can be hung on the ordinary closet rod. The present invention just can satisfy this requirement.

The invention provides a novel suspension device for folding a clothes hanger and removably installing the clothes hanger in a suitcase. The hanger broadly comprises two halves connected by a vertical pin which are foldable between an open coplanar position and a closed overlapping position. The hanger can be used with clothes hanging on it in the open or closed position. The hook is pivotally connected to one of the two halves for pivotal movement between a retracted position and an extended position. The hook does double duty: (1) in the deployed position, the hanger can be hung on a regular wardrobe rod; (2) in the retracted position, it prevents clothes from sliding off the hanger when the hanger is in the closed position. Optional sliding pant loops allow the hanger to hold trousers regardless of the hanger's open or closed position. A suspension assembly attached to the luggage case allows the hanger to be removably secured in the luggage case in the folded position, although the hook is in the retracted position.

The main object of the present invention is to provide a hanger which can be folded for hanging vertically folded clothes in a long and narrow compartment and in an unfolded state for hanging unfolded clothes on a common wardrobe rod superior.

A major advantage of the present invention is that it provides an effective means of preventing folded garments from sliding off the folded hanger.

Another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a means for hanging trousers on a folded hanger without interfering with the foldability of the hanger or affecting the balance of the hanger in its unfolded state.

According to the present invention, there is provided a clothes hanger for hanging clothes, said clothes hanger comprising: a first middle body part, which is pivotally connected with a second middle body part, and said two middle body parts can Pivoting between a coplanar position and an overlapping position; and a garment fastening member pivotally connected to a central body member extendable in the same plane as said one central body member pivoted between an out position and a retracted position parallel to one of the central body members so that in the overlapping position of the two central body members, the garment fastening member can be positioned between the two central body members between. The following describes the preferred embodiment of the invention, that is, the best mode for carrying out the invention.

Although the present invention may have practical application in any situation where a simple, reliable and collapsible clothes hanger is desired (as in narrow cabinets, cabinets). Case 20 may be made of any material known in the art and may be a hard-sided plastic case, but shown is a soft-sided luggage case made of nylon or durable fabric over a lightweight frame.

FIG. 3 also shows that case 20 may have a front portion 22 and a rear portion 24 . The front portion 22 is flexibly connected to the rear portion 24 along a common edge by, for example, a hinge, so that the front portion 22 can swing or pivot away from the rear portion 24 in the manner of a door or lid to allow easy access to the interior of the case. . To close case 20, front portion 22 and rear portion 24 are aligned and secured along a common perimeter (eg, by a zipper). One advantage of the present invention is that the interior of the box 20 can be narrower from side to side than in the prior art. Such narrowed dimensions can be achieved without sacrificing actual interior volume. Clothes such as men's coats are folded about a vertical axis to be placed in the case 20, as shown in Figure 3, making the case narrower in width, making it easier to handle, store, and pull. The compartment in the rear portion 24 of the case 20 is preferably high enough to have a place where men's coats can be hung without being folded in the horizontal direction. Referring now to Figures 4-12, these figures together illustrate the folding hanger of the present invention. The hanger, generally designated 40, is preferably made of a durable, slightly flexible thermoplastic. The hanger 40 has a pair of rigid, generally planar central body members 44,45 extending laterally from each of them with a leg 50,51. Extending from upper portions of the central body members 44,45 are shoulder members 46,47 each extending at a downward angle to meet the respective legs 50,51. The shoulder members 46,47 and legs 50,51 are preferably integral with the respective central body member 44,45 such that each shoulder member 46,47 and leg 50,51 is a rigid molded part of the corresponding body member 44,45. extension of the . As shown in Figures 6-9, the body members 44, 45 are pivotally connected by a body hinge 54, which is preferably vertically disposed. An advantage of the construction of the preferred embodiment is that there is a corresponding overlap between the smaller body member 45 and the larger body member 44 halves when the hanger 40 is folded into the open position. The hanger hook 60 is pivotally connected to the central body member 44 by means of a neck hinge 62 as shown in FIGS. 5-8. Neck hinge 62 allows hook 60 to fold between an extended position (as shown in FIGS. 5 and 8 ) and a retracted position (as shown in FIG. 7 ). In the extended position, hook 60 is substantially coplanar with body member 44 . When rotated to the retracted position (as indicated by the directional arrow in FIG. 6 ), the hook 60 is substantially parallel to the main body member 44 . In practice, the hooks 60 and the central body members 44, 45 are substantially contained in the same imaginary plane when the hanger 40 is in the open position to hang garments thereon. When the clothes hanger 40 is in the folded position, the main parts 44, 45 are approximately parallel, and the hook 60 is sandwiched between them in parallel (Fig. 12, 13).

Referring to FIG. 4, in one embodiment, the suspension assembly 38 includes a pair of horizontal, spaced apart suspension rods 82, 82'. Referring particularly to Figures 10-12, an advantage of the present invention is shown in that the neck hinge 62 allows the hook 60 to be folded down against the garment to keep the garment in place on the hanger 40. The garment is first placed on the shoulder members 46, 47 of the hanger 40 of the present invention (as shown in FIG. 10). Referring to Figures 5 and 7, the hanger 40 is shown optionally provided with a trouser loop 70 on which belts, trousers, skirts or other garments can be placed. In an alternative embodiment, loop 70 is a closed, elongated loop made of, for example, rigid plastic or heavy wire, wide enough to place a pair of trousers 33 thereon (FIG. 4). Ring 70 is slidably received in ring holder 73 . Clamp 73 comprises a slotted (or preferably tubular) member secured to the bottom of larger central body member 44 and corresponding leg 50 . As best shown in Figure 5, the upper portion of the loop 70 is caught in the groove or recess of the loop clip 73, but is slidable therein to allow the loop 70 to move from side to side relative to the hanger. The trouser loop 70 is movable between an offset position, in which the loop is adjacent to a central body member 44 and/or a leg 50 (solid lines in FIG. 5 ), and an intermediate position, The loops are adjacent to the two body members 44, 45 or legs 50, 51 (dashed lines in Fig. 5). The bottom of the trouser loop 70 is provided with a substantially cylindrical padding member 76 having a larger radius than the loop 70 to provide a clean, padded surface on which clothes can be securely hung with less wrinkles.

Note that providing the pant loop 70 in such a structure does not interfere with the folding operation of the hanger 40 . When the hanger 40 is in the open position, the trouser loop 70 can be slid in the clamp 73 to an intermediate position (as shown in FIG. 7 and shown in dashed lines in FIG. 5 ), where a portion of the loop 70 is adjacent to the legs 50, 51. . In the neutral position, the pant loop 70 is in a substantially symmetrical position relative to the rest of the hanger 40, which allows the hanger to hang evenly from the rod 30 (as shown in FIG. 5). Since the loop 70 can move laterally, when the clothes are hung on the loop 70, the position of the loop can be adjusted so that the weight balance of the hanger 40 is optimal. In fact, if no clothes are hung on the shoulder members 46, 47, the hanger 40 can be used in the open or closed position, and only the trousers 33 etc. are hung on the normal hanger rod 30.

When it is desired to fold the hanger 40 to the closed position, the ring 70 is moved in the clamp 73 until it is biased to the position shown in FIG. 5 . In this offset position, the pant loop 70 is off-center relative to the balance point of the hanger 40 and does not interfere with the operation of the hanger 40 . The lateral extent of the pant loop 70 is substantially equal to or slightly smaller than the width of the larger body member 44 . With the trouser loop in the open position, the hanger 40 can be freely folded to the closed position, and the loop 70, though wide enough to hang a pair of trousers 33, does not significantly increase the overall width of the folded hanger 40. When clothes are hung on the loops of the hanger 40, the hanger can still be used in the folded position and placed in the narrow case 20 (as shown in Figures 3 and 4). In an alternative, less expensive embodiment, the pant loop 70 may be fixedly secured to the central body in a permanently offset position.

Figure 13 shows that an advantage of the present invention is that the hanger 40 can be adapted for use in alternative suspension assembly embodiments. The hanger 40 is shown in the closed position with the hook 60 retracted into position between the two intermediate body members 44, 45, but with no clothing hanging thereon. A flat panel 88 can be fixed (or preferably hinged) so as to swing within the luggage case. In this alternative embodiment, the plate 88 is provided with horizontally aligned collars 89, 89' into which one or more support arms 65, 66 can be frictionally inserted to secure the hanger 40 in the case.

The hanger 40 can be used in an open, non-folded position or a closed, folded position. The user can use the hanger 40 to hang clothes on the common rod 30 or in the luggage compartment 20 . Clothes such as sportswear can be placed unfolded on the hanger 40 in the open position (as shown in FIG. 10 ), while the hanger hook 60 is placed on the normal rod 30 ( FIG. 5 ). If desired, the trouser loop 70 can be moved to an intermediate position (as shown in FIG. 7 ) where a pair of trousers or other clothing can be hung while the hanger 40 is balanced on the bar 30 .
