Abstract

Changing the environmental conditions and/or activity level of the person wearing the clothing can lead to a desire to change the portion of the body surface covered by the clothing that the person is wearing. In particular, during outdoor and/or sporting activities, a need arises to change the construction of such garments through reversible transformation of said garments. In this context, convertible garments such as upper jackets with integrated hoods are known in the art. Furthermore, JP2000/282309, US4,217,663, US2008/0092273A1, JP2017/89065A, US2016/0206022A1 and FR2819384A1 provide further examples of such garments.

In detail, both JP2000/282309 and US2008/0092273A1 relate to a pair of shorts that can be transformed into a pair of trousers by using a zipper located at the bottom edge of each leg portion of the pair of shorts. A pair of lower leg portions can be reversibly attached to a pair of shorts by closing the zipper. In the present invention, the term "transformation" includes any change or rearrangement of the garment configuration.

Furthermore, US 4,217,663 relates to an outdoor waistcoat comprising a complete long sleeve and hooded jacket attached to the bottom edge of the back panel of the waistcoat. The jacket can be stored in a dedicated pocket provided in the bottom end of the back panel of the vest, and is adapted to be worn under the vest when removed from the pocket. However, in order to wear the jacket under a waistcoat, the wearer first needs to remove the waistcoat, remove the jacket from the pocket at the back panel, put on the jacket, and then put the waistcoat on the jacket.

Furthermore, JP2017/89065A relates to a jacket that can be transformed into a waistcoat by reversibly separating the sleeves of the jacket using a zipper provided on the nearest edge of each sleeve. When not in use, the sleeve can remain attached to the waistcoat portion of the jacket along a small section of the connecting edge, and can be stored into the waistcoat pocket. However, in order to turn a jacket into a vest, the wearer needs to open the jacket, separate the sleeves using a zipper, pull the sleeves through the vest armhole, store the sleeves in a pocket, and close the vest again.

Further and very similar to the teachings of JP2000/282309 and US2008/0092273A1 mentioned above, US2016/0206022A1 relates to a pair of shorts which can be reversibly connected to the bottom edge of each leg of the pair of shorts by using a zipper, And transformed into a pair of trousers. However, the lower leg portion cannot be completely removed from a pair of shorts, but remains permanently attached to a pair of shorts by thin portions of the bottom edge of each leg of the pair (shown in Figure 2B of US2016/0206022A1). Additionally, the lower leg portions may each be stored in side pockets of the shorts when separated from each leg of the shorts.

Further and similar to the teaching of US4,217,663 above, FR2819384A1 relates to a waistcoat comprising a complete long-sleeved and hooded jacket, in contrast to US4,217,663, which is permanently attached to the waistcoat along the entire outer circumference of the waistband of the waistcoat , and can be stored in dedicated pockets located along the entire circumference of the bottom of the vest. Thus, a person wearing the vest can remove the outer jacket from the pocket while wearing the vest, and close the jacket using a zipper provided at the front of the jacket.

However, the garments known from the prior art have different disadvantages. For example, some of the garments described require dedicated attachment means to connect and disconnect additional portions of the respective garments. Said connection device is subject to wear and eventual failure due to repeated use. Furthermore, depending on the location and/or material of the attachment means, said attachment means can impair wearing comfort and/or garment performance, especially during vigorous physical activity. Furthermore, said connecting means can be prone to failures, eg due to dirt or material fatigue, and also weaken the water resistance of the respective garments.

Furthermore, some of the garments known in the art require the wearer to first unwrap or even take off the garment to change the configuration of the garment. Such procedures may be undesirable especially during competitive sports and/or strong winds, heavy rain or snowfall.

Furthermore, some of the garments known from the prior art exhibit a great redundancy in the sense of double covering substantially the same portion of the wearer's body surface. As a result, such garments may be unnecessarily high in weight, and wear comfort, breathability and/or performance during sports activities may be significantly degraded. In this regard and for the remainder of this application, the term "substantially" shall be defined as "within normal manufacturing, operating and/or design tolerances".

Furthermore, some of the garments described contain pockets to store additional portions of the respective garment, which are difficult to handle and also impair the visual appearance, performance and/or wearing comfort of the garment.

Accordingly, there remains a strong desire to provide an improved design for a convertible garment that at least partially overcomes some of the above-mentioned deficiencies.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The above problems are solved, at least in part, by the subject-matter of the independent claims of the present application. Further embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims.

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a transformable garment comprising a base portion and at least one expansion portion, the at least one expansion portion being stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use, wherein the at least one expansion portion is An extension portion, when in use, is adapted to cover at least a portion of the extremities of the wearer of the garment, and less than 2/3, preferably less than 1/2 and more preferably less than 1/3 of the wear covered by the base portion and wherein the at least one extension portion is permanently attached to the base portion along most of the connecting edge between the at least one extension portion and the base portion.

In another embodiment, the present invention provides a convertible bottom that includes a base portion and at least one expansion portion, the at least one expansion portion being stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use; wherein the at least one extension portion adapted to cover at least a portion of a wearer's extremities when in use; and wherein the at least one extension portion is permanently attached to the base portion along a majority of the connecting edge between the at least one extension portion and the base portion .

Furthermore, the garment may be adapted to be transformed by removing the at least one extension from the at least one pocket while the garment is being worn.

For example, transformable garments according to the above-described embodiments enable the wearer to change such garments in a quick and easy manner, even while wearing the garment, and without having to carry the respective extensions separately. For example, if the garment is a top, the wearer can change the garment even while off-roading in the mountains or while riding in the rain, with little time consuming.

For example, the transformable garment may also be a pair of shorts intended for outdoor sports such as cross-country or hiking, where weather conditions may vary significantly during the respective activity. In the following, exemplary embodiments of the present invention are described in more detail with respect to a convertible waistcoat and a convertible pair of shorts. However, it should be understood that the present invention is not limited to such specific embodiments, but can be applied to all kinds of tops and bottoms.

Furthermore, although combinations of specific features are described below in relation to exemplary embodiments of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to such embodiments. Claims (16)

1. A transformable garment comprising: a. a base portion and at least one extension portion that is stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use; b. wherein said at least one extension portion is adapted to cover at least one limb of a wearer of said garment when in use, and less than 2/3 of the surface of the wearer's body covered by said base portion; c. wherein the at least one extension portion is permanently attached to the base portion along a majority of the connecting edge between the at least one extension portion and the base portion; and d. wherein the at least one extension portion covers a portion of the base portion, and wherein the covered portion of the base portion comprises a different material than the uncovered portion of the base portion, Where the at least one pocket is provided on either the left or right side of the base portion, the zipper of the pocket is provided on the top end of the pocket and oriented so that the zipper slopes from the wearer's back to the abdomen end down. 2. A transformable garment comprising: a. a base portion and at least one extension portion that is stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use; b. wherein said at least one extension portion, when in use, is adapted to cover at least one limb of a wearer of said garment, and less than 2/3 of said base portion covers the wearer's back body surface and/or or abdominal body surface; c. wherein the at least one extension portion is permanently attached to the base portion along a majority of the connecting edge between the at least one extension portion and the base portion; and d. wherein the at least one extension portion covers a portion of the base portion, and wherein the covered portion of the base portion comprises a different material than the uncovered portion of the base portion, Where the at least one pocket is provided on either the left or right side of the base portion, the zipper of the pocket is provided on the top end of the pocket and oriented so that the zipper slopes from the wearer's back to the abdomen end down. 3. A transformable garment, wherein the garment is a top, comprising: a. a base portion and at least one extension portion that is stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use; b. wherein said at least one expansion portion is adapted to cover the upper torso of the wearer when in use; c. wherein a majority of the lower edge of the at least one extension portion is not connected to the base portion, and wherein the at least one extension portion is along a majority of the space between the at least one extension portion and the base portion the connecting edge is permanently attached to the base portion; and d. wherein the at least one extension portion covers a portion of the base portion, and wherein the covered portion of the base portion comprises a different material than the uncovered portion of the base portion, Where the at least one pocket is provided on either the left or right side of the base portion, the zipper of the pocket is provided on the top end of the pocket and oriented so that the zipper slopes from the wearer's back to the abdomen end drops. 4. A transformable garment, wherein the garment is a bottoms, comprising: a. a base portion and at least one extension portion that is stored in at least one pocket of the base portion when not in use; b. wherein the at least one extension portion is adapted to cover at least a portion of the wearer's extremity when in use; c. wherein the at least one extension portion is permanently attached to the base portion along a majority of the connecting edge between the at least one extension portion and the base portion; and d. wherein the at least one extension portion covers a portion of the base portion, and wherein the covered portion of the base portion comprises a different material than the uncovered portion of the base portion, Where the at least one pocket is provided on either the left or right side of the base portion, the zipper of the pocket is provided on the top end of the pocket and oriented so that the zipper slopes from the wearer's back to the abdomen end drops. 5. The convertible garment of claim 1, wherein the at least one extension portion is adapted to cover less than 1/2 of the body surface of the wearer covered by the base portion when in use. 6. The convertible garment of claim 1, wherein the at least one extension portion is adapted to cover less than 1/3 of the body surface of the wearer covered by the base portion when in use. 7. The transformable garment of any one of claims 1-4, wherein the transformable garment does not comprise attachment means for connecting the at least one extension portion to the base portion. 14. The transformable garment of any one of claims 1-4, wherein the at least one extension portion and uncovered portions of the base portion comprise a waterproof material and/or wherein all portions of the base portion are waterproof. The covered portion contains breathable material. 15. The convertible garment of any one of claims 1-4, wherein the at least one expansion portion is permanently connected to the base portion via sutures that are sandwiched between at least two pieces between reinforcements. 16. The transformable garment of any one of claims 1, 2, 4, wherein the at least one expansion portion can be wrapped over the at least one expansion portion via wrapping means extending substantially along the longitudinal extent of the extremity around the extremities of the wearer.
