Abstract

A portable notebook computer with expandable functions is composed of a long and thin notebook or computer and a function expansion cabinet. The casing of the computer is composed of an upper part and a lower part. Description

Expandable Notebook Computer Housing Assembly

The invention relates to a slender notebook computer, more specifically, to a notebook computer shell assembly with expandable functions. This patent application is based on Korean Patent Application 47938/1995, which is also incorporated herein by reference.

As the electronic devices used in computers tend to be more and more high-performance and miniaturized, notebook computers, especially because of their light weight and small size, are more and more widely used. However, general notebook computers have limited capacity so that auxiliary devices such as CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory) drives cannot be installed to expand the functions of the computer. Although notebook computers equipped with CD-ROM drives and the like have been developed, such notebook computers generally have disadvantages of large size and heavy weight, which cause inconvenience to users. In addition, such computers cannot be upgraded from, for example, a 386-class computer to a 486-class computer due to limited installation space.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a slim notebook computer with means for easily expanding its functions.

The function-expandable portable notebook computer casing assembly provided by the present invention is composed of a slender notebook computer and a function expansion cabinet. The casing of the computer is composed of an upper part and a lower part. For the signal connector, the front of the function expansion cabinet is equipped with fasteners, and the back is equipped with clamping guides for installing auxiliary devices required for expanding computer functions. The function expansion cabinet has multiple second data signal connectors. The slender notebook computer is fixedly installed on the function expansion cabinet, and each first data signal connector is connected with each second data signal connector.

It should be noted that throughout the drawings, the same numbers or letters are used to designate the same or equivalent elements with the same function. In addition, in the following description, specific numerical values are listed for a more comprehensive understanding of the present invention. However, those skilled in the art know that the present invention can be practiced without these specific values. The present invention does not describe in detail those well-known functions and constructions that may unnecessarily obscure the subject matter of the present invention.

The present invention will now be described more specifically by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.

See Figure 1. The casing of the laptop computer consists of an upper part 2 with a display panel 2a and a lower part 4 with a keyboard 4a. The bottom 6 of the lower part 4 is equipped with a plurality of first data signal connectors 7 for connecting with external devices, as shown in FIG. 2 . A pair of fixing holes 4 b are also provided on the upper surface of the lower part 4 , which are arranged symmetrically on both sides of the lower part 4 .

Fastener 14 is equipped with on the front of the function expansion cabinet 20 that is equipped, and its back is equipped with clamping guide 12 for installing the auxiliary device that expansion computer function needs, as shown in Figure 3. The fastener 14 is designed so that it can be fixed in the fixing hole 4b on the upper surface of the notebook computer. The function expansion cabinet 20 is also equipped with a plurality of second data signal connectors 16 for connecting with the first data signal connectors 7 of the lower part 4 of the housing. In addition, the function expansion cabinet 20 is also provided with slots 18 for installing auxiliary devices such as CD-ROMs.

Fastener 14 consists of a pair of elastic pieces bent at 90 degrees. One end of each elastic sheet 14 is in the shape of a buckle 14a and fixed in the fixing hole 4b, and the other end is in the shape of a swing ring 14b, which can rotate together with the hinge 20a mounted on the casing 20.

It can be seen from FIG. 4 and FIG. 5 that the notebook computer 10 is mounted on the function expansion cabinet 20 , and its rear end is inserted into the clamping guide 12 . The first data signal connector 7 arranged at the bottom of the lower part 4 of the notebook computer 10 is connected with the second data signal connector 16 arranged on the function expansion cabinet 20 . The buckle 14a of the elastic piece 14 is swingably fixed in the fixing hole 4b of the lower part 4 of the notebook computer case. When the notebook computer 10 is to be removed from the function expansion cabinet 20, the elastic piece 14 can be removed from the fixing hole 4b, and the first and second data signal connectors 7 and 16 are separated.

The above has been described with regard to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, but those skilled in the art know that, without departing from the actual scope of the present invention, various changes and modifications can be made to the above-mentioned embodiment and equivalent components can be used instead of corresponding components. In addition, various modifications may be made to adapt the teachings of the present invention without departing from the main scope of the present invention. Therefore, it is intended that the invention not be limited to the particular embodiment disclosed herein as the preferred mode for carrying out the invention, but that the invention will include all embodiments falling within the scope of the appended claims.

Claims (4)

1. A shell assembly of a portable notebook computer with expandable functions, characterized in that it comprises: A slender notebook computer, the casing of which is composed of an upper part and a lower part, and a plurality of first data signal connectors are provided at the bottom of the lower part; A function expansion cabinet, its front is equipped with fasteners, and its back is equipped with clamping guides for installing auxiliary devices needed to expand computer functions. The function expansion cabinet is equipped with a plurality of second data signal connectors, The slim notebook computer is fixed on the function expansion cabinet through the connection between the first data signal connector and the second data signal connector. 2. The notebook computer casing assembly according to claim 1, wherein the fastening member is composed of a plurality of elastic pieces. 3. The portable notebook computer as claimed in claim 2, wherein one end of each elastic piece is in the shape of a buckle, and the other end is in the shape of a swinging ring, which can rotate together with a hinge. 4. The portable notebook computer according to claim 3, wherein a fixing hole is provided on the upper surface of the lower part of the casing for fixing the buckle.
