Abstract

Makeup Removal and Correction Tools

technical field

The present invention relates to a device for removing or correcting make-up, in particular for removing or correcting make-up applied on or around the eyes, such as eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara. The device can also be used to remove makeup applied to the face or elsewhere.

Background technique

Mascara is a cosmetic product used to darken, thicken and define eyelashes. Mascara is applied to the eyelashes. Eyeliner is a cosmetic used to outline the eyes. Eyeliner is applied around the eyes, usually on the edge of the eyes. Eye shadows are cosmetics that are commonly used to accentuate the eyes to add depth and size to them. It is applied on the eyelids and under the eyebrows.

The application method may vary depending on the type of cosmetic. Eyeshadow can be applied as a powder or in liquid or pencil form. Modern mascara is usually applied by using a stick applicator, effectively a protective tube with a brush in it.

People who apply makeup often wish to remove any current makeup before reapplying it, keep the skin clean, or wish to remove makeup from a specific location in order to retouch the makeup. This removal is often problematic for sensitive areas such as the eye area because it requires precise handling. In general, a common practice for removing makeup is to moisten a cotton swab and then apply the wet swab to the area or location where makeup is to be removed. Multiple swabs are needed as makeup is transferred back to the face from the dirty swab. Furthermore, make-up removal compositions are not always on hand when needed, or are too dirty to use, or are not very effective, so users may seek to use other less appropriate liquids or methods to remove make-up.

Mascara and eyeliner are particularly difficult to remove; these cosmetics with water resistance (waterproof mascara and eyeliner) offer excellent resistance to tears and sweat, but the same property makes the cosmetic difficult to remove when washed with water. This mascara and eyeliner requires a special makeup remover.

There are non-water resistant mascaras and eyeliners and are easily removed with soap and water, but this one is very easy to apply and spread. Although such eye cosmetics can be easily removed, they generally cannot be applied with high precision. If using cotton swabs, it may be necessary to keep multiple swabs on hand to handle makeup removal and finishing. Instead of removing the smear, it may be necessary to remove it all and start over. In these cases, it may be necessary to reapply eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara.

Currently, many make-up removal compositions are available, most of these compositions are in the form of liquids and some are creams and gels. Compositions used to remove eye make-up need to be non-irritating to the skin and eyes. The cosmetic removal composition may be supplied in the form of a pad pre-soaked with the removal composition. It is customary to remove eye makeup, for example, by dabbing a pad over the closed eye, whereby all makeup is removed at once. This can be inconvenient, particularly when traveling, or for simple use during the day, since it requires carrying bulky items in handbags and the like.

It would be advantageous to provide a device for removing, including waterproof mascara, eyeliner and other cosmetics that require specialized compositions for removal.

It would be advantageous to provide a device that allows certain cosmetics to be removed with high precision, thereby enabling the user to retouch their makeup.

It would be advantageous if the device was small enough to allow the user to carry it in a purse or pocket and allow the user to remove the bulk of the cosmetic product before it has finished its function.

Contents of the invention

In an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a cosmetic removal implement comprising an elongated body terminated with a contact point, the elongated body having:

i. Storage reels on which strips of cleaning material are wound;

ii. a collection reel operatively connected to the storage reel by straps;

iii. a container containing a makeup removal composition, the container being in fluid connection with at least a portion of the strip;

Wherein the ribbon is movable along a ribbon path from the storage reel, over at least a portion of the contact tip, to the collection reel.

Preferably, the tool includes an actuator which, when operated, causes rotation of the collection reel and collection of the strip around the reel. As the take-up reel rotates, it pulls the web onto the reel and thus along the web path from the storage reel, delivering new web portions onto the contact tip.

Preferably, the implement includes a delivery system for delivering the make-up removal composition from the container onto a portion of the strip. The composition should be delivered to a portion of the strip before or simultaneously with the movement of the portion of the strip to a position above the contact tip. Alternatively, the composition is delivered to the portion of the strip at the point of contact while or after the strip is moved to a position above the point of contact.

The strip of cleaning material may be formed from absorbent material. The absorbent material may be based on woven or nonwoven fabrics and may comprise natural and/or synthetic fibers. Natural fibers are derived from plants, animals and insects, or from by-products of plants, animals and insects. Traditional base stocks are generally fibrous webs comprising any of common natural or man-made fibers, or combinations thereof.

Non-limiting examples of natural fibers that may be used in the present invention include silk fibers, keratin fibers, and cellulose fibers. Non-limiting examples of keratin fibers include wool fibers and similar fibers. Non-limiting examples of cellulosic fibers include fibers selected from wood pulp fibers, cotton fibers, hemp fibers, jute fibers, flax fibers, and combinations thereof. Cotton fibers are the preferred natural fibers for use as strip material.

Non-limiting examples of manmade fibers that may be used in the present invention include acetate fibers, acrylic fibers such as cellulose ester fibers such as cellulose acetate, modacrylic fibers such as polyamide fibers such as nylon, polyester fibers such as Polypropylene polyolefin, polyethylene fiber, polyvinyl alcohol fiber, rayon fiber, polyethylene terephthalate fiber and other fibers. Woven polyester fibers are the preferred man-made fibers for use as strap material.

The tape may be a blend of different types of fibers including, for example, a cotton/polyester blend.

The strip may comprise two or more layers of material, ie an outer contact surface of fibrous material or foam material on the lower support layer or constructed around the support core. The fibers may be natural fibers or man-made fibers as described above. If foam is used, the foam may be selected from polyethylene foam, polypropylene foam, vinyl foam, acrylic foam, polyether foam, polyester foam, polyurethane foam, blends of mixable and non-mixable polymers and copolymers, silicone Sponge foam, neoprene foam, rubber foam, polyolefin foam and mixtures of the above materials.

If the strip comprises two or more layers, the lower layer (the layer remote from the contact surface of the strip) or inner core may be used to provide structural strength and need not be absorbent. The lower layer may comprise multiple layers and be formed from a mesh.

In one arrangement, any lower layer is porous to allow transfer of the release composition through the lower layer to the upper contact layer. If a core is used, the core need not be porous so long as the composition can be transported around the core.

In one embodiment, the strip may comprise upper absorbent cotton fibers on a lower polymeric support layer.

Absorbent cotton or polyester fibers are preferably used for the strips.

The make-up removal composition is preferably in the form of a liquid, emulsion or gel composition for ease of delivery onto the strip. A range of make-up removal compositions can be employed. For waterproof mascara, the composition can be a proprietary formulation or a non-proprietary oil-based composition. Such liquid oil-based compositions may include liquid paraffin, mineral oil or silicone oil. Exemplary proprietary formulations are the Cetaphil line of cleaner compositions. Cream compositions commonly known as creams or lotions may also be used.

Exemplary removal compositions include water as a carrier, poloxamer 184, ceteth-20, and laureth-23 as emulsifiers, Butylene Glycol, PEG-20 Glyceryl Laurate as Solubilizer, Panthenol as Humectant, Sodium Phosphate and Disodium Phosphate as Buffer, Calcium Disodium EDTA as Chelating Agent, Hydroxyphenyl as Preservative Sodium methylate and citric acid as a pH adjuster.

The elongated body may be made of any material suitable for a user's hand to hold and operate the device. The tool can be cylindrical and can be held like a pen or stick. The elongate body can be made of any suitably rigid and durable material. Desirably the outer elongated body is made of a rigid and low cost plastic such as polyethylene or polypropylene, HIPS, ABS or similar material. Alternatively, it can be made of more expensive aluminum.

The contact tips contact the strip portion and support the strip portion thereon. The tip can contact the user's skin. Any skin-contacting portion of the contact tip may be made from a non-abrasive, skin-friendly material for user comfort when pulling the skin-contacting portion around the face. The tip may have an inner core to provide resistance when the contact tip is pulled against the skin.

In a preferred arrangement, the strip covering the tip prevents the contact tip from coming into contact with the user's skin in normal use. The tip may comprise a relatively rigid elastic material capable of retaining its shape when it is pressed against the user's skin. The tip can be formed from hard plastic. Soft plastic or absorbent materials are not preferred because they tend to fade and transfer color with subsequent use.

If the tip is formed from a non-porous hard plastic, it may be perforated to allow the composition to flow from the tip to the outer surface of the tip. The tip may include a slot whereby the strip is threaded into and out of a portion of the tip before passing around the perimeter of the tip top.

A container of makeup removal composition is fluidly connected to the strip. The cleaning composition may be located in a storage tank which holds 1 to 15ml, preferably 4 to 9ml, more preferably 3 to 7ml of the composition. The canister may include a tube for delivering the cleaning composition from the canister. A portion of the tube may extend from the elongated body to release fluid through the tip onto the strip. Alternatively, the tank could be shaped to avoid the need for a different tube and simply have an outlet. Canisters can also be stored within the lid rather than the elongated body.

In one arrangement, the conveyor system includes an open feed path from the container to the strip. This can be achieved by capillary action or by gravity when the tool is inverted. A tube or outlet of the container may allow delivery of the composition to a delivery surface in contact with the strip. In an open feed path arrangement, a portion of the tip may be wetted with the cleaning composition at all times. If the transfer surface is located at the contact tip or forms part of the contact tip, the strip portion is ready to use. Alternatively, if the transfer surface is located between the contact tip and the storage reel, the strip portion may move into position for use as the strip advances.

The tube or outlet of the tank can be capped by a porous stopper. The stopper slows down the flow of the composition from the can. The stopper may be a contact tip, or may be used to dispense the composition into the interior of the contact tip. This can be performed by using a hollow perforated contact tip with a plug that fits within the tip. If the tip instead included a slot for the strip, the strip could enter the side of the tip, contact the foam plug, and then exit the side of the tip before passing around the end of the tip.

The porous plug may fit in the outlet of the tank, or in a tube that is mostly or completely inside the tank. Alternatively, the end of the tube or outlet may fit within a portion of the plug. The tube extends almost to the end of the tank opposite the outlet. This can be used to move the composition from the bottom of the tank to the contact surface via a non-gravity based delivery system. This also reduces the amount of composition delivered to the contact tip to the amount of composition in the inner tube when the device and tank therein is inverted.

Alternatively, in a different canister arrangement, the strip is routed through a seal within the canister and thus wetted by the cleaning composition.

In an alternative to an open feed arrangement, the delivery system may be an operable system where operation of a button or other control allows the cleaning composition to flow to the strip. This button or control may be the same as or different from the actuator used to advance the strip from the storage reel to the collection reel.

In an operable arrangement, the container of cleaning composition is stored in a canister with a tube leading to a porous pad in the tip that contacts the strip. The tubes include fluid control valves or devices for controlling the flow of eg porous foam. The actuator is a button that when pressed opens the valve and allows the composition to flow to the porous pad and onto the strip. Alternatively, the actuator is a button which when pressed deforms the tube and thereby opens the valve. Alternatively, the actuator may operate a simple pump, in which case it may not be necessary to have a delivery surface, and the cleaning composition may be dripped or sprayed onto the strip.

In another operable arrangement, the canister is formed from deformable plastic and the composition within the canister is extruded from the tube by deforming the canister through a porous plug in the tip to wet or wet the strip at the point of contact . The can can be deformed by applying a compressive force to one or more sides of the can. This compressive force may be applied by pressing a button located on the housing or by pressing a flexible area in the housing whereby the force applied to the button or area is transferred to the side of the canister. Alternatively, the button or flexible region may be omitted, with one or more parts of the tank directly accessible through the housing and depressible by the operator.

Detailed ways

Referring to Figures 1 to 9, the present invention is a makeup removal tool. The tool comprises a cap 3 detachable from an elongated body 5 . The cover 3 may be formed by injection molding of a polymer such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). The cap 3 serves to protect the elongated body 5 and prevents the actuation of buttons or leavesrs, and can be used to seal the opening of the hollow tip 7 at the end of the elongated body 5 .

The elongated body 5 serves as the housing, which, in addition to the tip 7 , comprises a collar 9 and two housing parts 13 , 15 . When assembled, the tip 7 is held in place by the collar 9 which fits into the aperture 12 formed when the housing parts 13, 15 are joined together. The housing parts 13, 15 and collar 9 are formed from a rigid plastic material, ie from ABS.

The collar 9 comprises an orifice 10 in which the tip 7 fits. The tip does not completely fill the aperture, but when fitted together, the collar engages portions of the tip and provides two slots on opposite sides of the tip through which the strip 65 can pass through the hole in the collar 9 Mouth 10. The tip is shaped to facilitate retaining the strip 65 around the tip.

The elongated body includes a tank 21 for storing a make-up removal composition. The tank includes an outlet 22 . Vegetable fiber tubes 23 are positioned within the tank 21 and the outlet 22 . A plant fiber tube protrudes from the tank and extends within the tank to near the bottom of the tank. The plant fiber tube is open at both ends and does not include a valve to stop the flow of the liquid, emulsion or gel composition from the tank to the end of the tube.

At the end of the tube 23 a plug 25 of porous polymer foam is fitted. The tube frictionally fits into an annular groove in the plug. The plug has an upper conical portion that fits within the hollow tip 7 . The plug 25 may be formed from an open cell foam polymer such as polyurethane foam.

In an alternative form not shown, the plug has a stepped diameter having an upper tapered portion and a lower elongated shaft which frictionally fits within and plugs the open end of the tube 23 end.

The cleaning composition flows from within the tank 21 out of the tube 23 into the porous plug 25 . The canister is compressed by the user by pressing a button 26 extending through a hole 27 in the housing to affect the flow of the composition. The button 26 is positioned on the opposite arm of the spring clip 28 . When the button is pressed, the clamp compresses the sides of the canister 21 , forcing the composition inside the canister out through the tube 23 . When released, the elastic force of the clip material returns the clip and button to their rest positions. The canister may be formed from a resilient material and also assists in returning the clip and button to the rest position.

The composition then flows through the plug into contact with the inner surface of tip 7 . The composition flows through the perforated side of the tip, onto the outer surface of the tip and onto the strip in contact with the outer surface. The tip is formed from a polymeric material such as polypropylene.

The elongated body also includes two reels. One reel is a strip collection reel 35 mounted on a shaft 34 extending from the inner surface of one housing portion 13 . The other reel is a tape storage reel 31 mounted on a shaft 33 extending from the inner surface of the other housing portion 15 . Each reel is able to rotate about its own axis. The reel may be injection molded and formed from polypropylene.

The sides of the reels 31 , 35 closest to the inner housing each include two arcuate arms 41 , 45 each having a tooth 42 , 46 respectively extending towards the inner surface of the adjacent housing. Each housing part includes a ring of raised teeth 47 . The aforementioned rings of teeth are positioned coaxially with shafts 33, 34 extending from the sides of the housing, respectively. Raised teeth 47 of the housing engage teeth 42, 46 on the arms of the reel. The raised teeth of the housing and the teeth on the arms of the reels are oriented and positioned to allow rotation of each reel about the axes 33, 34 in one direction and to resist rotation in the other direction. When assembled, the shaft 33 is connected to the shaft 34 and extends partially into the bore of the shaft 34 .

The collection reel 35 also includes a gear 49 on the outer surface of the reel remote from the housing 13 . This gear is coaxial with the reel 35 . The tooth 50 of the gear engages with a hook 51 on a swing arm 53 . The arm 53 is operatively connected to an actuator, ie to a sliding button 55 capable of sliding movement relative to the elongated body. Arm 53 is operatively connected to button support arm 57 by a pivot joint comprising socket 58 and pin 56 . The arm 53 is held in the rest position by a spring 61 connecting the arm to the elongated body 5 . In the rest position, as shown in FIG. 4 , the hook 51 engages the surface of the tooth 50 .

As shown in FIG. 5 , when the button 55 is slid towards the tip 7 , the hook 51 also moves up and thereby moves the tooth 50 of the gear, which causes the gear 49 and reel 35 to turn about the shaft 34 in a counterclockwise direction.

As shown in Figure 6, when the button 55 is released, the spring 61 returns the arm 53 towards the rest position, which returns the button to its original position. The orientation of the teeth 50 and hooks 51 allows the teeth to slide over the teeth of the reel. Movement of the reel in the clockwise direction is further prevented by the interaction between the teeth 46 and the housing 13 .

The traversal of the button 55 and thus the swing arm 53 is controlled by the contact between the top edge 59 and the bottom edge 60 of the slot in the housing and the top edge 63 and the bottom edge 62 of the portion of the button arm 57 .

The reels 31 , 35 are operatively connected together by a cleaning strip 65 that moves in the direction shown by arrow 67 . The collection reel 35 collects the strip that has slipped thereon as it rotates counterclockwise. From the storage reel 31 full of tape, along the path partially defined by one side of the outer surface of the tank 21, through the aperture 10 in the collar 9, past the contact surface 8 of the tape contact portion of the tip 7 , back through the orifice 10 in the collar 9 and drag the strip 65 along the opposite outer surface of the tank 21 .

In use, a new section of strip 65 is positioned on contact tip 7 by operating slide button 55 . The user then presses button 26, dispensing a dose of cleaning composition onto a new portion of the strip.

An alternative form of this tool is shown in FIGS. 10 and 11 . It operates in substantially the same manner as the tool shown in FIGS. 1 to 9 .

In the alternative tool of Figures 10 and 11, the button 26 and clamp 28 of Figure 1 have been omitted, and the holes 27 in the housing parts 13, 15 have been enlarged. The function of these parts is now achieved by providing a flexible and resilient part 70 over the hole 27 in the otherwise rigid housing part 13 , 15 . The flexible portion 70 may be a rubber or polymer film. The flexible portion fits across enlarged holes in the housing portions 13, 15 and is fastened to the elongated body by adhesive or other known methods for fastening one polymeric material to another. physically. The flexible portion may be rubber overmolded onto the housing. The portions are dimensioned such that the user can press the flexible portions 70 with his thumb and forefinger, thereby applying pressure and deforming the walls of the tank 21 located between the flexible portions 70 . This causes the liquid, emulsion or gel composition to flow from tank 21 . The elastic portion may be formed from a flexible polymer such as thermoplastic elastomer or silicone polymer.

Each flexible portion 70 has an integral post 71 extending from the inner surface of the contact tank. In an alternative embodiment, the opposing housing portion 13 omits the resilient portion and is formed of a rigid material. Otherwise, its operation is similar to that described above, but the user only rests his thumb on the flexible part.

In another embodiment (not shown), the resilient portion may be omitted entirely, with the sides of the canister 21 sealed against the edge of the aperture in the housing. The user can apply pressure directly to the wall of the canister 21 through the orifice in the rigid housing.

In Figures 10 and 11, the tape collection reel 35 and the tape storage reel 31 are repositioned relative to the arrangement shown in Figure 1, but the operation is essentially the same. Each reel is rotatable about a respective axis to move the strip from the storage reel 31 , around the tank 21 , over the tip 7 and back around the tank 21 to be collected onto a collection reel 35 . Movement of the strap 65 is controlled by pulling the strap from the storage reel 31 through the loop by rotating the collection reel 35 . In this arrangement, the take-up reel includes teeth 46 on the reel's arcuate arms 45 which engage a ring of raised teeth 47 positioned coaxially with the shaft 34 extending from the inner surface of the housing 15 . The storage reel 31 is free to rotate within the device about an axis 33 as the strip is wound onto the collection reel.

Similar to the tool shown in FIG. 1 , by operating the button 55 a new portion of the strip 65 is repositioned on the contact tip 7 . The button is secured to a slide assembly 72 located in the housing. Attached to arm 74 , which is attached to slide assembly 72 , hook 76 operatively engages the teeth of gear 49 secured to reel 35 . Return spring 78 repositions assembly 72 and button 55 after operation by the user.

Although the present invention has been described with emphasis on removing makeup around the eyes, it can be used to remove and clean up makeup applied elsewhere. When used with an appropriate liquid removal formula, it can be suitable for removing non-transfer foundations, long-wearing lipsticks or other products such as nail polish.

While certain embodiments of the invention have been shown or described, other changes and modifications may be made to the concepts of the invention without necessarily departing from the invention.

Throughout this specification and the appended claims, unless the context requires otherwise, the word "comprising" will be understood to mean the inclusion of stated integers or steps, or groups of integers or steps, but not the exclusion of any other integers or steps , or groups of wholes or steps.

Claims (13)

1. a cosmetics removal tool comprises elongate body, and said elongate body has contact tip in the end, has in the said slender bodies:
