Abstract

A cosmetic dispenser device includes a base containing a reservoir for containing a product, and a lid having an internal tapered cap. The reservoir includes an upper portion having a shaped opening, and the tapered cap terminates in a shaped projection sized to fit the shaped opening of the reservoir. A hinge connects the cover and the base and is pivotable relative to the base between an open position to access the product and a closed position. The lid seals the reservoir in the closed position by inserting the shaped projection into the shaped opening of the reservoir and by pressing the conical cap into the upper portion of the reservoir.

The present invention generally relates to cosmetic dispensers for containing and preserving cosmetic products.

Background technique

Cosmetics are often packaged in compact containers for easy transportation. Users typically move desired cosmetics from one place to another for reuse on a daily basis. This ongoing transport necessitates secure closure of all types of cosmetics sealed in compact containers to ensure cosmetic preservation and prevent spills or leaks into the shipping bag or bag.

Conventional cosmetic containers are often insufficient to seal and hold all types of cosmetics. Due to its fine powder composition, the storage and transportation of loose powder cosmetics is particularly troublesome. Due to the shipping difficulties involved with seepage and leaks from compact containers, loose powder cosmetics in everyday life are usually used at one location and not shipped for later reuse.

Contents of the invention

The Summary of the Invention presents simple features of a cosmetic dispenser with an automatic closure. In an exemplary embodiment, a cosmetic dispenser device includes a base including a reservoir for containing a product, and a lid having an inner conical cap. The receptacle includes an upper portion having a shaped opening, and a conical cap terminating in a shaped protrusion sized to fit the shaped opening of the receptacle. In some embodiments, the tapered cap and/or shaped protrusion may be at least partially made of an elastomeric material, such as a thermoplastic elastomer. A hinge couples the cover to the base and is pivotable relative to the base between an open position and a closed position. In the open position the product is accessible and in the closed position the lid seals the reservoir by inserting the shaped protrusion into the shaped opening of the reservoir, by pressing the conical cap into the upper part of said reservoir.

In another aspect, a cosmetic dispensing device includes a base including a reservoir for receiving cosmetic, and a cover coupled to the base. The upper portion of the reservoir includes a hard, concave surface that tapers into the shaped opening, and the cap includes a protruding taper that terminates in a shaped protrusion. Opening the lid provides access to the cosmetic product, and closing the lid closes the reservoir by inserting the shaped protrusion into the shaped opening in the reservoir.

In yet another aspect, a cosmetic dispensing device includes a base including a reservoir having at least two shaped openings, and a lid including at least two conical caps terminating in shaped protrusions. Opening the lid provides access to the reservoir through the shaped opening, and closing the lid closes the reservoir by inserting the shaped protrusion into the shaped opening. Loose powder makeup is contained in the reservoir and is accessible through a shaped opening.

Detailed ways

The present invention relates to a cosmetic dispenser with an automatic closure. The cosmetic dispenser described herein is used to hold loose powder cosmetics. Although the cosmetic dispenser described herein is effective in containing and storing loose powder cosmetics, the dispenser may also be used to contain other types of cosmetics in powder, liquid, cream, gel, solid or other form.

When a cosmetic dispenser containing loose powder cosmetics is transported from one place to another, seepage or leakage of cosmetics from conventional cosmetic dispensers occurs due to the difficulty in keeping fine powders in compact containers. A disclosed cosmetic dispenser with an automatic closure includes a cap and reservoir system that retains and seals a loose powder cosmetic product when the dispenser is closed. The cap and reservoir system seals the cosmetic product in the reservoir and enables the cosmetic dispenser to be transported repeatedly from one location to another without traces of leaking cosmetic product. The seal created by the somewhat flexible opening extending into the insertion reservoir prevents powder from migrating into the cosmetic dispenser or into the bag of the transport dispenser.

While the features of the device may be implemented in any number of forms, a cosmetics dispenser with an automatic closure is described in the context of the following exemplary embodiments. 1-11 show various views of an embodiment of a cosmetic dispenser with an automatic closure having four reservoirs and four corresponding caps.

Figure 1 shows an exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 with an automatic closure. The illustrated configuration of cosmetic dispenser 100 is just one example arrangement. Many arrangements of the components shown, or other similar components, are also possible. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 includes a cap 102, a base 104 having an exterior 122 and an interior 124, a reservoir 106, a shaped opening 108 to the reservoir, a tapered cap 110 terminating at a shaped protrusion 112, and a support back on the interior of the cap. Lining 114. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 may also include a mirror 116 on the interior of the lid, and an applicator chamber 118 and one or more cosmetic mixing chambers 120 on the interior of the base. The cosmetic dispenser 100 also includes a hinge 126 and a latch 128 that retain the lid in a closed position.

Lid 102 and base 104 of dispenser 100 are connected by hinge 126 . Hinge 126 pivots relative to base 104 and enables lid 102 to be placed in an open or closed position. Figure 1 shows the cover 102 in an open position. The base 104 of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 includes an exterior 122 and an interior 124 . Cover 102 and base 104 may be constructed of materials including, but not limited to, glass, metal, wood, plastic, polymers, composites thereof, and the like. In some embodiments, the lid and/or base may be at least partially made of a resin such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), pentachlorophenylthiomethane (PCTA), poly Propylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyurethane, combinations thereof, etc. Additionally, the interior and/or exterior can be made from any combination of substantially transparent, substantially opaque, and/or translucent materials. In one embodiment, the exterior of the cover 102 and base 104 are made of an opaque ABS/SAN composite, while the interior is primarily made of a substantially transparent or translucent thermoplastic polymer, such as polypropylene. Interior 124 of base 104 includes molded reservoir 106 and cavities 118 , 120 . The number and shape of the reservoirs 106 and cavities 118, 120 may vary in different embodiments.

In some embodiments, the applicator cavity 118 may be formed as a depression on the interior 124 of the base 104 and may be used to hold a cosmetic applicator. In this case, the dimples on the interior 124 should be sized and shaped to accommodate the cosmetic applicator used in the cosmetic particular embodiment. The mixing chamber 120 may also be provided as another recess on the interior 124 of the base 104 , which may be used to temporarily hold cosmetic products removed from the reservoir 106 . A user may need to mix different colored cosmetics from the various reservoirs, and the mixing chamber 120 may be used to hold samples of the different cosmetics for mixing. The cosmetic dispenser may contain one or more mixing chambers 120 . The location of the applicator chamber and mixing chamber relative to other components on the base 104 may vary in different embodiments. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 represents an embodiment having two mixing chambers 120 and one applicator chamber 118 . However, in other embodiments, other combinations of mixing and/or applicator cavities may be provided, or mixing and/or applicator cavities may be omitted entirely.

In the illustrated embodiment, the interior 124 of the base 104 is a separate piece of material from the exterior 122 of the base 104 . The inner portion 124 is secured in a stable position on the lower outer portion 122 of the base 104 by suction, pressing, gluing, lapping, or any other suitable securing means. The exterior 122 of the base 104 may also include a latch 128 at the front that catches a small dimple on the top interior of the lid 102 when the cosmetic dispenser 100 is closed. The rear exterior 122 of the base 104 includes a hinge 126 attached to a lower portion of the lid 102 and capable of pivotal movement to open and close the lid 102 . In other embodiments, the interior 124 of the base may be integrally formed with the exterior 122 .

The interior 124 of the base 104 of the cosmetic dispenser 100 includes at least one reservoir 106 for containing cosmetics. The cosmetics contained in each tank 106 may include solid powder cosmetics, loose powder cosmetics, gel cosmetics, cream cosmetics, liquid cosmetics, and the like. These reservoirs can be formed in various shapes, such as generally circular, generally rectangular, generally square, generally oval, and the like. In the illustrated embodiment, each sump 106 is generally circular and includes a generally circular outer rim. Reservoir 106 may be integrally formed with interior 124 or formed separately and secured therein by suction, press fit, adhesive, lap joint, or any other suitable securing means.

The upper surface of the sump 106 may taper or taper toward the center of the sump in a generally concave manner. The gentle slope of the reservoir 106 tapers into the shaped opening 108, which may be the same or a different shape as the reservoir, including, for example, generally circular, generally rectangular, generally square, generally oval, or substantially other shapes. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 shows an interior housing four axially aligned reservoirs 106 each having a circular outer edge and a circular opening 108 . Cosmetic dispenser 100 is one embodiment of a cosmetic dispenser with an automatic closure; other embodiments may include a greater or lesser number of reservoirs and rims and shaped openings of different shapes than those presented in cosmetic dispenser 100 .

In the illustrated embodiment, the lid 102 of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 includes a mirror 116 on the upper interior and at least one cap 110 on the lower interior. The lower interior of the cover 102 also includes a support backing 114 . The support backing 114 is flat, extends across the interior of the lid 102 , and serves as a support for the inner upper cap 110 of the lid 102 . Cap 110 is made of an elastic material that is co-molded with support backing 114 . In some embodiments, the elastic material may include thermoplastic elastomers such as polyurethanes, polyester copolymers, styrene copolymers, paraffins, vinyl acrylics, polyvinyl chlorides, chlorosulfonated polyethylenes, fluorocarbons, and In other embodiments, the elastomeric material may comprise a relatively soft or gel-like material such as butyl rubber, silicone, butadiene rubber, neoprene, nitrile, fluorosilicone, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) wait. Additionally, some embodiments may omit mirrors and/or may include caps of any number, shape, and configuration. Generally, the caps are aligned with the reservoirs on the base 104 of the dispenser 100 and correspond in number and shape to the number and shape of the reservoirs.

Each cap 110 is projectingly tapered and terminates in a shaped protrusion 112 of an elastomeric material such as that described above for cap 100 . In other embodiments, the cap may be made of a relatively stiff material, while the shaped protrusion 12 may be made of an elastomeric material, or vice versa. The shape of the outer perimeter of each cap 110 and the shape of the shaped protrusion 112 may be the same or different and may include a generally circular, generally rectangular, generally square, generally oval, or any other shape. In general, however, the outer perimeter of cap 110 and shaped protrusion 112 are complementary in shape to the outer edge of reservoir 106 and shaped opening 108 , respectively. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 is shown with a cap 102 housing four caps 110 having a circular outer cap perimeter and shaped protrusions 112 . Other embodiments of cosmetic dispensers with self-closing lids may include greater or lesser numbers of caps and shaped protrusions, the same or different shapes than those shown in the exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 .

The cap 110 and receptacle 106 of the cosmetic dispenser 100 are axially aligned on the lid and base, respectively, so that when the lid 102 is depressed to close the cosmetic dispenser, the shaped protrusion 112 of each cap 110 enters each receptacle 106 The shaped opening 108 . Each cap 110 and shaped protrusion 112 comprises an elastomeric material that is at least somewhat soft and malleable and yields slightly under compression. The elastomeric material facilitates sealing of the reservoir 106 by enabling the shaped protrusion 112 to enter the shaped opening 108 of the reservoir 106 and stretch under pressure to fit the shaped opening 108 when the cosmetic dispenser lid 102 is closed. This stretch seals the reservoir 106 and prevents the loaded cosmetic contained in the reservoir from escaping when the closed cosmetic dispenser 100 is moved.

2-11 include various views of the example cosmetics dispenser 100 of FIG. 1 . Each feature and component of the exemplary cosmetics dispenser 100 of FIGS. 2-11 is as described in FIG. 1 . The description of each figure may describe specific features of the cosmetic dispenser 100 in more detail than the description in FIG. 1 , depending on those aspects highlighted and emphasized by the associated figure in the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 2 includes an interior view of the lid of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser with automatic closure 100 of FIG. 1 . The cosmetic dispenser cap 102 includes at least one cap 110 terminating in a shaped protrusion 112 , a support backing 114 , a mirror 112 and a latch 200 . As best shown in this figure, the cap 110 is aligned along the transverse axis 202 .

The example cosmetic dispenser cap 102 of FIG. 2 shows a direct view of the cap 110 aligned along the transverse axis 202 . Each cap 110 terminates in a shaped protrusion 112, and the entire cap 110 and shaped protrusion 112 are made of an elastomeric material, such as a thermoplastic elastomer or the like. The elastomeric material of cap 110 and shaped protrusion 112 is co-molded with a support backing such as polypropylene.

The example cover 102 may also include a mirror 116 . The mirror 116 may be located inside the upper portion of the cover 102, as shown, and may be placed in a different location in other alternate embodiments. The exemplary cover 102 also includes a latching pawl 200, which in this embodiment is a dimple on the inner upper portion of the cover. The latch 200 catches the latch (128 in FIG. 1 ) of the base 104 when the cosmetic dispenser is closed, ensuring a secure closure of the cosmetic dispenser.

FIG. 3 includes a view from the interior of the base 104 and above a portion of the cover 102 of the exemplary cosmetics dispenser of FIG. 1 . The lid 102 of the cosmetic dispenser is in the open position at an angle of about 90°.

The view from above of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser in the open position shows the cap 110 on the lid 102 aligned with the reservoir 106 on the base 102 . Each cap 110 is positioned directly over each receptacle 10 such that a shaped protrusion 112 on the end of each cap 110 enters an opening 108 in each receptacle 106 when the cosmetic dispenser lid 102 is in the closed position. The direct entry of the shaped protrusions 112 into the shaped openings 108 can seal each reservoir 106 and retain cosmetics within each reservoir 106 .

FIG. 3 also provides a direct view of the mixing chamber 120 and the applicator chamber 118 . The number, size and shape of the mixing and applicator cavities can be larger or smaller in other embodiments and can be placed in different locations on the base of the cosmetic dispenser than shown in FIG. 3 .

FIG. 4 is a side view of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser 100 of FIG. 1 showing the lid of the cosmetic dispenser in an open position. The exemplary cosmetic dispenser includes a cap 102 , a base 104 and a cap 110 terminating in a shaped protrusion 112 . FIG. 4 provides a scale view of the cap 110 and shaped protrusion 112 relative to the base 104 and lid 102 of an exemplary embodiment of a cosmetic dispenser. The view provided also shows the hinge mechanism ( 126 in FIG. 1 ) connected to the lower portion of the lid 102 and the rear of the base 104 .

11 is a cross-sectional view of the inner upper cap 110 of the lid 102 of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser of FIG. 1 , taken along the transverse axis of FIG. 2 . The cross-sectional view of FIG. 11 details an exemplary embodiment with layers on the interior of the cover 102 . The lid 102 includes an inner lid surface 1102 of which a support backing 114 forms a part. The support backing 114 is generally flat and extends along the lower portion of the interior of the lid. The support backing 114 is secured to the interior of the lid of the cosmetic dispenser by suction, pressing, gluing, lapping or other securing means.

The cap 110 is attached to or integral with a support backing 114 on the inside of the lid of the cosmetic dispenser. Each cap 110 tapers with a gentle slope, forming a generally protruding dome terminating in a shaped protrusion 112 . In some embodiments, the angle Θ of the ramp ranges from about one degree to about 20 degrees. In the illustrated embodiment, the angle Θ is between about 5° and about 10°. The angle θ facilitates the entry of the shaped protrusion 112 into the shaped opening of the recess on the base of the cosmetic dispenser, ensuring a positive seal in each reservoir to prevent leakage of cosmetics from the reservoir. The shaped protrusion 112 also includes a layer of elastomeric material 1104 coated on the cap 110 and the shaped protrusion 112 . In further embodiments, the elastomeric material 1104 may also cover the area along the support backing 114 between the caps 110 . In this embodiment, the elastomeric material 1104 of the cap 110 and shaped protrusions 112 are co-molded with the support backing 114; however, in other embodiments, the elastomeric material 1104 can be applied as a coating in any other known manner. layer. Furthermore, in various other embodiments, the elastomeric material 1104 may be disposed around the opening of the reservoir other than the cap. Additionally or alternatively, the protrusions may be formed entirely of elastomeric material 1104 .

In the illustrated embodiment, the cap 110 is hollow in shape defining the interior space 1100, which allows the cap 110 to bend and deform slightly during operation and further enhances the sealing capability of the dispenser 100. However, in other embodiments, the cover may be solid.

12-19 illustrate various other exemplary embodiments of cosmetic dispensers with automatic closures. The embodiment shown in Figures 12-19 is similar in many respects to that shown in Figures 1-11. Thus, for the sake of brevity, only those different features of FIGS. 12-19 are described in detail below.

The example cosmetic dispenser 1200 of FIG. 12 includes a cap 1202 and a reservoir 1204 . Figure 12 shows the perimeter of the cap and other shapes of the reservoir on the cosmetic dispenser. The outer perimeter of the cosmetic dispenser cap 1202 and the reservoir 1204 are generally square. Additionally, cosmetic dispenser 1200 does not include an optional mixing chamber on the interior of the base of the cosmetic dispenser.

Figure 13 includes a schematic view and Figure 14 includes an exterior view of a cosmetic dispenser with two separate covers and a united base. The unitary base includes two reservoirs and an open cavity for receiving at least one portion of the cosmetic product. Exemplary cosmetic dispenser 1300 of FIG.

The lid 1302 of the cosmetic dispenser 1300 is divided into two parts, each of which can be opened and closed independently of the other. The two parts of the cover 1302 correspond to those located on the base 1304 . In cosmetic dispenser 1300 , base 1304 includes two sections, a smaller section housing reservoir 1308 and a larger section housing open cavity 1310 . The opening 1310 accommodates cosmetics that may include solid, powder, colloid, paste, or other types of cosmetics. Included cosmetics may be placed in one portion of the open cavity 1310, or the cosmetics may be divided into two or more portions that are both housed in the open cavity. Cosmetic dispenser 1300 shows an open cavity 1310 for containing four separate portions of cosmetics. The two parts of the lid 1302 of the cosmetic dispenser 1300 are divided into a small portion covering the base 1304 that houses the reservoir 1308 and a larger portion of the base 1304 that houses the opening 1310 , mixing chamber 1302 , and applicator chamber 1314 . The size and shape of the lids can vary depending on the type and amount of cosmetics to be contained in each section.

In the illustrated embodiment, the small portion of the interior of the cover 1302 includes two caps 1306 with a square outer perimeter. A larger portion of the interior of cover 1302 includes a mirror 1316 that may cover part or all of the interior of cover 1302 . The smaller portion of the base 1304 includes two reservoirs 1308 whose outer edges are also square. The cap 1306 on the lid 1302 and the reservoir 1308 on the base 1304 are positioned in such a way that the cap 1306 is directly above the corresponding reservoir 1308 . This allows a shaped protrusion on the end of the cap 1306 to enter the shaped opening of the reservoir 1308 to seal the reservoir and retain the contents of the encasement.

The larger portion of the lid 1302 of the exemplary cosmetic dispenser 1300 covers the entire larger portion of the base 1304 when in the closed position. The larger portion of the base includes an open cavity 1310 for containing cosmetic product, a mixing cavity 1312 for mixing cosmetic product taken from the reservoir 1308 and open cavity 1310, and an applicator sized to fit the applicator used to apply the supplied cosmetic product. Figure 15 includes a schematic diagram of a cosmetic dispenser including two reservoirs for holding cosmetics, and Figure 16 includes an exterior view thereof. FIG. 15 includes two caps 1502 , two reservoirs 1504 , and an applicator cavity 1506 . The outer perimeter of the cap 1502 and reservoir 1504 of the cosmetic dispenser 1500 comprises a square shape. Additionally, in this particular embodiment, cosmetic dispenser 1500 does not include a mixing chamber for mixing cosmetics removed from reservoir 1504 . The applicator cavity 1506 of the cosmetic dispenser 1500 is short in length and sized to fit the width of the base of the cosmetic dispenser.

17-19 include schematic illustrations of a cosmetic dispenser including a reservoir for holding cosmetics. The example cosmetic dispenser 1700 of FIG. 17 includes a cap 1702 , a reservoir 1704 , a mixing chamber 1706 , an applicator chamber 1708 and a mirror 1710 . The overall size of the cosmetic dispenser is smaller than previous dispensers, only large enough to accommodate a reservoir, small applicator, and small mixing chamber. The compact size of the cosmetic dispenser 1700 makes this embodiment suitable for travel or everyday use as it would take up little space in a handbag or cosmetic bag.

The outer rim of the cap 1702 and the reservoir 1704 of the cosmetic dispenser 1700 are square and the applicator cavity is small and located to the right of the reservoir 1704 . The mixing chamber 1706 is also small in size and generally square. The lid of the cosmetic dispenser 1700 also includes a small mirror 1710 . 18 includes an exterior view of the cosmetic dispenser 1700 of FIG. 17 with the lid in a closed position.

FIG. 19 provides a view of an exemplary cosmetic dispenser 1900 from above with the lid of the cosmetic dispenser open. Cosmetic dispenser 1900 includes a cap 1902 terminating in shaped protrusion 1904 , reservoir 1906 with shaped opening 1908 , mixing chamber 1910 , and mirror 1912 . The listed features of cosmetic dispenser 1900 are the same as described above for cosmetic dispenser 1700 of FIG. The outer perimeter of each of these features is generally square, but the corners of each feature are rounded, providing a different overall appearance than cosmetic dispenser 1700 of FIG. 17 . Additionally, the shaped protrusion 1904 and shaped opening 1908 of the cosmetic dispenser 1900 are generally oval in shape.

Although the subject matter has been described in language with respect to specific structural features, it should be understood that the subject matter defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to such specific features. Rather, the specific features are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims.
