For example, there may be communication network charges associated with the exchange of service data. In another example, there may be a fee charged by a separate device 206 associated with the service data.
There are many different ways in which operators of communication networks charge users for data exchanged over their networks. For example, an operator may have separate charges for text messages and tunneled data. Additionally, utilization of either and/or both of these delivery mechanisms may be charged on a flat usage fee basis, per packet/message basis, based on the amount of data exchanged , block size based on data exchanged, block number based on packets/messages exchanged, etc. For example, a carrier may charge a flat fee for unlimited messaging, may charge for chunks of 100 messages, may charge for 1MB of data, and so on. In addition, operators often combine these fee structures. For example, an operator may charge a flat rate for data up to a limit, and then charge on a block basis after that limit is exceeded.
In addition to the complications associated with the standard charges that the operator applies to utilization of the communication network, the operator may also offer discounts and/or incentives. For example, an operator may charge a reduced fee for exchanging data during off-peak hours and a higher fee for exchanging data during peak hours, incentivizing users to become accustomed to data exchange during certain date ranges, such as holidays, special events, and more. In addition, the operator can change the rate based on user information. For example, an operator could charge women half of the standard rate for a time period.
In many cases, users may find these charges to be complex, confusing, and/or unpredictable. For example, without performing a detailed analysis of what the standard charges might be, what the current balance of the user's account in relation to the delivery mechanism might be, and any discounts that might apply, any up-charges that might apply, etc., the user might Fees associated with delivering service data cannot be determined. In some cases, this confusion and complexity promotes distrust of operators based on this unpredictability of fees. For example, some users identify fee complexities associated with dishonest or arbitrary charging through post-justification of fees without discernible prior notice to the user. This perception can be detrimental to both the user and the operator. Users may be unable to use the services they want due to mistrust or an inability to predict costs. Due to this mistrust and unpredictability, operators may not be able to attract users to utilize the communication network for data exchange, even when the situation may be affordable for the users.
In at least one example embodiment, the apparatus receives charge information indicating at least one charge for exchanging the service data over the first network. The operator of the communication network may provide a service account server, such as an advice-of-charge server. The device may receive fee information from the service account server. In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus receives information from a service account server over a communication channel of a communication network. The service account server may base the fee information on a subscription identification device coupled to the apparatus. The subscription identity device may be similar to that described with respect to Figures 3A-3B. In this manner, an apparatus may receive fee information from a service account server associated with a subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus receives information indicative of an account balance associated with a first subscription identity device. The service account server may base the account balance on a subscription identification device coupled to the apparatus. In this manner, an apparatus may receive information indicative of an account balance from a service account server associated with a subscription identity device.
In addition to communication network charges, there may also be charges associated with separate devices. For example, a separate device may assess charges to a user based on service data. In such examples, a user might pay for a program, magazine, coupon service, location-based service, etc. associated with a separate device. In this way, the cost information associated with the communication network may be different than the cost information associated with a separate device. In some cases, charges from separate devices may vary based on the communication network. For example, a partnership may exist between an operator of a communications network and an owner of a separate device, such as a content provider, such that when service data is exchanged over the operator's communications network, Owner's fee is less. Where a subscription identity device provides utilization of a communication network, charging from a content provider for service data may be based at least in part on the subscription identity device.
These additional charges may further confuse the user, especially if the user has to consider the charges associated with utilizing the communication network for exchanging service data. It may be desirable to reduce user confusion and mistrust by means of determining costs associated with the exchange of service data. In at least one example embodiment, the costs associated with the exchange of service data relate to financial costs based on the costs associated with the delivery mechanism of the communication network and the service data. For example, cost can be based at least in part on service data size. The service data size may be received from a separate device.
3A-3B are diagrams illustrating a subscription identification device according to at least one example embodiment. The examples of Figures 3A-3B are merely examples of subscription identity devices and do not limit the scope of the claims. For example, the number of subscription identity devices may vary, component configurations may vary, and so on.
(UICC)。In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identification device relates to an integrated circuit including identification information associated with utilization of a network conforming to the identification information. In at least one example embodiment, the subscription identification device may be removable from the apparatus. For example, the apparatus may include a subscription identity device socket that allows connection and disconnection of a subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identification device is embedded in the apparatus. For example, the subscription identity device may be a device conforming to the Embedded Subscription Identity Device Standard, such as specified in the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JDEC) Design Guide Version 4.8. In at least one example embodiment, the subscription identity device is a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM). In at least one example embodiment, the subscription identity device is a removable user identity module (R-UIM). In at least one example embodiment, the subscription identification device is a Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC).
In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identity device includes information and/or performs operations that facilitate use by an apparatus of a network associated with a subscription identity module. For example, a subscription identity device may provide frequency selection information, channel selection information, authentication information, user identification information, account identification information, and the like. In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identity device directs establishment of a communication channel by providing such information. For example, the apparatus may establish a communication channel with a communication network directed by the first subscription identity device. In this way, a subscription identity device may specify which communication network the device should use in association with the subscription identity device.
In at least one example embodiment, the capability of an apparatus to receive service data may be based at least in part on a subscription identification module. For example, a subscription identity device may not be able to provide for the exchange of service data if there is no available communication network associated with the subscription identity module. For example, the apparatus may be outside the range of any part of the network with which the subscription identity device is associated. In another example, the subscription identity device may not be able to provide the exchange of service data if there is not sufficient balance associated with the account coupled with the subscription identity device. In another example, a subscription identity device may not be able to provide exchange of service data if the subscription identity device excludes a delivery mechanism specified by a separate device. For example, separate devices may specify to utilize a data tunnel for the exchange of service data, such as LTE or GPRS. In such an example, if the subscription identity device does not allow the delivery mechanism associated with data tunneling, then the subscription identity device may not be able to provide the exchange of service data.
In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus receives charge information from a subscription identity device, the charge information indicating at least one charge for exchanging service data. For example, a subscription identification device may include cost information, such as cost advice information.
FIG. 3A is a diagram illustrating a subscription identification device according to at least one example embodiment. In the example of FIG. 3A , at least one processor 11 and a subscription identity device 312 are in communication with a subscription identity device socket 302 . In the example of FIG. 3A , subscription identification device 312 may be a removable subscription identification device.
In some situations, it may be desirable for an apparatus to utilize more than one subscription identification device. For example, a user may travel between areas that do not have contiguous communication network coverage from any single operator. In such a situation, the user may utilize multiple subscription identity devices such that the user's device may utilize different communication networks associated with different operators in different regions. In at least one example embodiment, one subscription identity device is associated with one communication network and a different subscription identity device is associated with a different communication network.
FIG. 3B is a diagram illustrating a plurality of subscription identity devices according to at least one example embodiment. In the example of FIG. 3B , at least one processor 11 and a first subscription identity device 362 are in communication with a subscription identity device socket 352 . In the example of FIG. 3B , the second subscription identity device 364 is in communication with the at least one processor 11 . In the example of FIG. 3B , subscription identification device 362 may be a removable subscription identification device, and subscription identification device 364 may be an embedded subscription identification device.
4A-4C are diagrams illustrating subscription identity device recommendations according to at least one example embodiment. The examples of Figures 4A-4C are merely examples of subscription identity device recommendations and do not limit the scope of the claims. For example, the number of representations of information may vary, the information presented may vary, the arrangement of information may vary, and so on.
In some cases, an apparatus may have multiple subscription identity devices associated with a communication network covering at least some common areas. For example, there may be one or more areas in which a user may utilize more than one subscription identity device to provide for the exchange of service data over an associated communication network. In such a situation, when a user wants to exchange service data with another device, the user may be faced with the complex and confusing task of determining which subscription identification device to utilize for the exchange. As previously described, users may have difficulty assessing costs associated with the exchange of service data related to a single subscription identity device. However, when multiple subscription identity devices are used, these difficulties may grow exponentially as users consider exchanges per individual subscription identity device. It may be desirable for the apparatus to provide fee-based recommendations to the user with respect to preferences for one or more subscription identity devices capable of providing exchange of service data.
In many cases, a user may determine to utilize a service through some sort of exchange interface. For example, a user may select a button on a website to invoke a process for exchanging service data, may invoke an action within an application to invoke a process for exchanging service data, and so on. In such situations, it may be desirable to provide subscription identity device recommendations as part of such an interface. For example, when a user provides input indicating an intent to exchange service data, it may be desirable to provide a subscription identity device recommendation. It may be desirable to provide subscription identity device recommendations without user interaction associated with obtaining cost information associated with one or more subscription identity devices. For example, a user may want to receive subscription identity device recommendations without providing any input beyond that expressing an intent to exchange service data. In this way, a user may be able to preview the disposition of a subscription identity device within the context of exchanging service data, such as balance information or capabilities. For example, a user can avoid exiting an application from which the user wants to exchange service data.
Without limiting the scope of the claims in any way, at least one technical effect associated with providing at least one subscription identity device recommendation without additional input from the user may be to alleviate possible user burden associated with fee determination, ease and determination for Possible user burden associated with charge information for multiple subscription identity devices, mitigating potential user burden associated with transitioning between subscription identity devices to investigate charge information, mitigating potential user burden associated with correlating charge information associated with different subscription identity devices Associated possible user burden, etc. Where there may be various changes in fee information (such as short-term incentives, peak-related fee differences, etc.), it may be unduly difficult for a user to investigate these situations separately for each individual subscription identity device. Users may be unwilling to incur such a burden, and may refrain from exchanging service data due to a desire to avoid such a burden. In this way, at least another technical effect may be increased user utilization due to reduced complexity associated with user protecting his/her financial interests by assessing cost differentials across applicable subscription identification devices. possibility of these services.
In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus provides at least one subscription identity device recommendation based at least in part on cost information associated with exchanging service data belonging to a plurality of subscription identity devices. The provision of the at least one subscription identity device recommendation may be similar to that described with respect to FIGS. 5-9. The apparatus may make providing the subscription identity device recommendation dependent on receiving an indication of an intent to exchange service data upon which it is based. The indication of the intent to exchange the service data may involve receiving an indication of an input associated with purchasing content related to the service data, associated with sending information to a separate device, or the like. For example, the recommendation may be provided as part of a purchase verification process. In such an example, the recommendation may be provided as part of an interface that allows the user to select which subscription identity device to allocate fees with respect to the exchange of service data. In this manner, the user may be able to receive subscription identity device recommendations as part of the same interaction that the user would perform when selecting a subscription identity device for exchange.
In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identity device recommendation involves an assertion indicating desirability for at least one subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, a subscription identity device recommendation indicates a spending preference between a first subscription identity device and a second subscription identity device. The cost preferences may involve determining costs associated with each capable subscription identity device with respect to each other. The cost preference may relate to a setting associated with preferring charging or capability characteristics of one subscription identity device over another subscription identity device. The spending preference may be a predetermined spending preference, such as a default set value. The spending preference may be a user-definable setting. For example, the user may set, modify, remove, manage, etc., the spending preferences. The spending preferences may be set by the instructions received. For example, a device may receive instructions including configuration information including cost preference settings. Such instructions may be received from a carrier, a communications network, a separate device, or the like. The user may be notified of receipt of such an instruction. In at least one example embodiment, there may be one or more settings that limit authorization to set spending preferences. For example, there may be one or more settings associated with excluding and/or granting authorization to set spending preferences for any particular party, device, entity, network, or the like. In such an example, the carrier may be excluded from changing the spending preference setting, and the user may be granted authorization to change the spending preference setting.
The recommendation can be associated with the individual's subscription identity device. For example, the recommendation may indicate that utilization of a particular subscription identity device is desirable, undesirable, etc. In such an example, the apparatus may provide subscription identity device recommendations for each subscription identity device. The recommendation can be associated with multiple subscription identity devices. For example, the recommendation may rank subscription identity devices based on desirability.
In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus may cause display of subscription identification device recommendations. Causing the display may involve performing an operation that causes the subscription identity device recommendation to be displayed on the display. For example, if the apparatus includes a display, causing display may include displaying a subscription identification device. In another example, the apparatus may cause the subscription identity device to be displayed by sending information indicative of the subscription identity device recommendation to a separate display, a different apparatus including the display, or the like.
In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus may base a subscription identity device recommendation at least in part on a determined cost associated with exchanging service data about the subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, the cost is based at least in part on: fee information associated with the subscription identification device, size of service data; fee information associated with service data, delivery mechanism; and the like. In at least one example embodiment, the device may determine the cost associated with the exchange of service data by summing the cost associated with the communication network and the cost associated with the separate device with which the service data is being exchanged. total cost. In this manner, the apparatus may further reduce any user burden associated with comparing spending information associated with multiple subscription identification devices.
It may be desirable for a user to be able to invoke the exchange of service data by selecting a subscription identity device from one or more subscription identity device recommendations. For example, a user may select a subscription identity device recommendation to select an associated subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus receives an indication of an input associated with selection of a subscription identification device. The selected subscription identity device may correspond to at least one subscription identity device for which the apparatus provides a subscription identity device recommendation. The device can proceed with the exchange of service data based at least in part on the selection.
In at least one example embodiment, the subscription identity device recommendation may be based at least in part on a roaming status associated with the subscription identity device. In at least one example embodiment, the roaming state involves utilization of the subscription identity device on a communication network not directly associated with an operator of an account to which the subscription identity device is involved. The subscription identity device recommendation may indicate a preference for non-roaming subscription identity devices over roaming subscription identity devices.
In at least one example embodiment, an apparatus alters monetary information presented to a user with respect to a subscription identification device recommendation. For example, the apparatus may receive cost information based on one currency and provide subscription identity device recommendations in a different currency. For example, there may be a setting indicating an instruction to provide one or more subscription identity device recommendations in a specified currency. In another example, there may be a setting indicating instructions to provide one or more subscription identity device recommendations in a currency corresponding to the currency of the location of the apparatus. In such an example, the apparatus may provide subscription identity device recommendations in Rupees (Rupee) in India based on received cost information and a different subscription identity device in Euros in Finland based on the same cost information received recommend. In this way, the device can perform currency conversion with respect to fee information to comply with currency preferences. In the example of Figures 4A-4C, the currency involves rupees. However, the fee information may relate to rupees, or any other currency. For example, the fee information for any of the examples of FIGS. 4A-4C may be in Euros, and the device may have performed currency conversion to provide subscription identity device recommendations in Rupees. Such conversions may be based on exchange rate information stored on the device, received by the device, specified by the user, and the like. For example, the device may include a table of currency conversion factors that may be modified.
Even though the examples of FIGS. 4A-4C refer to a subscription identity device that is a SIM, a SIM is only an example of a subscription identity device and does not limit the claims in any way. In the examples of FIGS. 4A-4C , the subscription identity device recommendation information provides contextual information associated with the service data exchange. Even though the examples of FIGS. 4A-4C provide contextual information related to the purpose of payment, service description, fee quantification information, subscription identity device balance information, subscription identity device cost information, etc., such contextual information may vary and is not intended to be Limitation of Claims. Additionally, even though this example indicates a textual recommendation indication to the user, the recommendation may involve non-text indications, such as color, opacity, size, location, and the like. For example, the location of the recommendation with respect to the top of the display may indicate a preferred recommendation. In another example, a more opaque recommendation may be less preferred than a more transparent recommendation. In another example, other indication means may be utilized separately or in combination with the visual indication means. Examples of such indications include, but are not limited to, audible indications and tactile indications. As a non-limiting example, the audible indication may be a buzzing sound played to the user, the sound depending at least in part on the selection the user is making for the recommendation.
