Zum Eindicken/Konzentrieren von Suspensionen oder Lösungen werden heute Dünnschichtverdampfer, Fallstrom- oder Umlaufverdampfer eingesetzt. Thin-film evaporators, downflow or circulation evaporators are used today for thickening / concentrating suspensions or solutions.

Mit Ausnahme des Dünnschichtverdampfers neigen die Verdampfer üblicherweise zum Verkrusten der Wärmeaustauschrohre.
