Abstract

The process comprises the preshaping of a metal ribbon in the form of a channel and the partial filling of the channel with a welding powder. The powder is covered with a thin circularly arcuate curved sheet whose edges curved over towards the bottom touch the side walls of the channel in order to retain the powder in the bottom of the latter while it is being closed. The preformed sheath is drawn through a die which folds over the ends of the U-shaped profile so as to adjoin the edges thereof. The closed casing is next sealed by welding and the sheathed and welded preform (blank) is drawn by means of another dye until the desired rectangular cross-section is obtained.
