Abstract

A device for automatically tying a string knot at each end of a sausage link extruded from a sausage filling machine includes two V-shaped multi-segment jaws which compress the end of a link. A reel with the string can be rolled around the sausage strand in a circular guide. The guide has a radial slot through which two string fork levers can pass to cross over the string. The string can be tightened to a knot by turning the reel around its axis through a friction mechanism with two conical plungers. This replaces the manual knot tying around sausage skins and speeds up the action considerably.
