Abstract

Prepn. of 6-isothiocyano-benzothiazoles of formula (I): (where R1 is 2-6C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl or CF3; R2 is 1-6C alk(en)yl, 3-6C alk(en)ylthio, 3-6C cycloalkyl(alkyl)thio, halogen or CF3) comprises subjecting the corresp. 6-aminobenzothiazole of formula (II): to e.g. (a) reaction with a thiocarbonic acid deriv. of formula Hal-CS-Y (where Hal is Cl or Br; Y is Cl, Br or dialkylamino), or (b) reaction with a sulphide of formula (S)m CS-N(R)2 2 (where R is 1-4C alkyl; m=1 or 2). Cpds. (I) are special cases of the cpds. described in the Parent Patent and have a similar broad range of anthelmintic activity (against cestodes, trematodes and nematodes). Unlike the other cpds., however, they are also active against the nematode Oesophagostomum columbianum, e.g. in sheep.
